Ive been looking for something like this thread for a long time! its exactly what a skyline needs if your running a pod, that cold air is quite important!

But, isnt it illegal to drill that hole in the position where you did? (So ive been told) I have two 3" holes in my 32, currently occupied by the intercooler pipes confused.gif but it would be nice to get some sorta setup working in there before my next tune

thanks everybody for all the help and ideas! thanks brett i checked with vic roads to, any mod to your car under your p's is illegal pinch.gif im just gonna go ahead and buy a panel filter instead, looking at the nismo s tune sports air filter

From what i have read on here i would not waste your money on a nismo filter, saw a test on here ages ago that showed the factory filter is the best one available, at best i would (and do) use and non oiled k&n and im making 250rwkw so that will be more than fine in a non turbo.

The car you are driving is illegal for a start.

Just get a K&N panel filter.

Good enough for me @ 365rwkw, good enough for you. About $80-$90 or so. You could probably find cheaper if you shop around

The GTR airbox & snorkel design is much different to the GTST one, the GTR is much more free flowing. What works for a GTR will not always work for a GTST/GTT. Best thing to do is probably put the car on the dyno, get a baseline run with the standard airbox, snorkel and filter. Do another run with the lid & snorkel removed, then another with the filter out. This should let you know if there is a restriction there. For a GTST/GTT I would say the answer is yes there is a restriction. You can always try and put in a new filter with/without the lid & snorkel and see if that makes a difference. I have heard that the standard Nissan filter is quite good for flow. I am thinking of using these and replacing them regularly like I would copper plugs. Standard Nissan panel filter is dry too so no oil on your AFM.

A pod should provide you with the best flow as with the right one the surface area will be much larger than the panel filter. Not to mention the base of the airbox in the GTST/GTT blocks a considerable area where the AFM bolts to it.

LOL sorry mate i didnt mean to say gt 't', its a gt 25 non turbo. really i find it hard to believe how a panel filter that can be bought from autobarn is better than something made by nismo specifically for japanese vehicles, but if everyone is saying K&N then i guess ill go with it!

Yes i realise that.

But on a bog stock (what we thought was a gt-t), it's fine. A gt-t airbox really isn't that bad if you have a look at one. They are a good piece of kit. Hence people make 270rwkw through them with nothing more than a replacement filter.

Now it's a GT - even more so unimportant.

Just to make sure.. I wasn't having a dig, just wanted to mention some observations I've made with a lot of looking at the standard airbox setup for the R33 GTST. I believe the R34 GTT is nearly the same apart from a slightly different snorkel design. I did buy GTT & GTR ones at some point in the past to see if I could use them instead. I did not. I have had the airbox lid removed at a 200rwkw level and it made a noticeable power change and altered the Air/fuel ratios, so it definitely changed things. I have modified a standard airbox quite a bit and it still didn't make any huge improvements so I am going to look at some alternative options.. :ninja:

I'm pretty sure Stao and others found the airbox a limiting factor and had to cut holes in the lid to flow enough air.

As mentioned though, being a GT, it's not going to change much in this situation.

Ye - on a dyno with the bonnet up :)

Take it out onto the street where the airflow & snorkel are working how they were designed and it's a different story. Dyno fans really don't have the same effect as travelling @ 80-100km/h+

There was a graph about 2yrs ago with back to back. Difference was around 6-8rwkw IIRC on the rollers on a 250rwkw setup. (R33 gts-t airbox it was, using a K&N Filter). Difference ye, but it's not major and certainly not worth the undue hassle you end up with. Depends on the person if they cbf'd with doing a proper CAI setup (that is still illegal).

LOL.. yeah there is definitely more to it than simple lid off :)

What gets me a bit is the 'cooling panels' that people put over their grill in front of the radiator support bar. These basically block the snorkel flow.. I did start to muck around with fibreglass one that had the snorkel sit sitting low but didn't end up finishing anything.

Depends on what diverter plate and what car. If you have an R32 GTR bonnet and grile, the diverter plate sits below the top grille bar and so air goes over the top of the grille into the snorkel space. Which would be great if R32s had a snorkel!!

I'd be wary of using an oiled filter on an engine that runs a MAF (and a 10+ year old one at that) due to the possibility of oil getting onto the AFM wire. I also would not be cutting holes through metal for that ghetto CAI mod (which incidentally would likely not work with an open pod anyway)

the stock airbox dosen't look that restrictive TBH, pity no one does OTR intakes for Skylines haha

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
