Dunno why it broke.

I pulled the boost down to 1.5 bar (minimum I can run). Came in second session and second gear was knocking. Terry at award thinks its a bent or broken gear.

Dunno when I'm gonna pull it out. I'm a bit heart broken ATM.

i feel for ya man.....I really do. However, I'd be wanting to find out the cause of said broken gear as OS Giken Gbox should be capable of handling your cars power output

If I could quote both on my phone I would!

Ants; it's the torque. Twist x RPM = power. Bah.

BBQ Sleeper; I know what you're saying. I'm

Not one to be hard on the equipment. Hell, I turned the boost down and was shifting at no more than 6500 RPM. I never shift hard. Grr.

and that's what concerning to me.

Lol twisted gear set on a 2.8 litre with too much "torques"

Lol sounds like a farken assembly problem or bearing issues Eg assembly problem

Billet metal doesn't "bend" under 2.8 litres of nm

Just saying ... Unless your 2.8 is a 6 litre turbo diesel

Award f**ked up?

Hoping its a collapsed bearing. I've rung Terry and he hasn't given me good news.

The is gear set is rated for 800hp and if you do the math Paul's car is making some where around 750-800 at the engine, which puts the box at the top of its capabilities

Ye

Id put it at at 730-740hp at the crank

And you can really rate a gearbox by horsepower. Os should rate then by torque.

475kws is 617hp at the wheels now with an average drive train loss of between 20-30%, you're looking at 741-803hp at the crank and even if you take the middle ground of 25%, it's still 772hp

And the fact this car is making 350kw by 4500rom says it's making bucket loads of torque right through the rev range

+1 indeed.

So, after Tuesday, it looks like I have broken or bent a tooth in second gear.

Time for another aftermarket gearbox.

PPG straight cut dog box? The OS 5 speed doesn't cut it! :(

Transfer the money and I'll send it up..

You'll have to get rid of your nismo clutch though.

Lol.

Yeah, no.

There is nothing "street" about a holinger box.

Hang in there Paul, sure it can be heart breaking with things break but its part of playing with performance cars too....

I'd like to know how noisy a holinger is compared to a normal box too for streetability. If your not driving the car every day, who cares if its not a lot of fun in 3 point turns.

Have you thought of using an R34 getrag? With the R33 diff ratios it would handle more power, plus they are nicer to drive than an R33 box and cheaper than a holinger or built box.

I've thought about the R34 box. Are they really that strong? I liked the long ratios, it worked well. With the getrag and 4.11's it would go back to "Evo like rowing gears", which is something I don't think I'd like.

Holinger.... Nah. $20k for a box. Blah lol

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
