Cowboy1600
My nanna wouldn't give two f**ks. Regardless of the fact she died last Wednesday, she's never owned a mobile phone. And if she did she would have been smart enough to figure out how to swipe your finger left to right once in order to then turn on or off what she wanted. With Android, I can leave GPS permanently on if I want and it doesn't actually make a big difference to the battery life. But I run mine lite because that's the way I roll. I have the GPS, bluetooth and wifi off and I have my screen on about 50% brightness cause that's all I need and those, cumulative, add a few hours to my battery. Not that I give much of a shit about battery life though, but it's just what I'm used to now. But really, who gives a f**k if battery life is shitty, my phone is on the charger probably 21 hours a day. I think you've got your hand on it if you insist a phone should be everything to everyone, 24/7 without any input from the user. If turning a feature on, such as GPS, is too laborious then I think you have a bigger issue than being an iSheeple. And if people are too f**king stupid to know how to go to the Apps and hold their finger on an app for 2 seconds then move it to where they want it, then wow, people are even more f**king stupid than I thought. How do these f**kers breath without assistance? Sorry, but your argument that iPhones are manifestly more simple than Android is retarded. Android is simple whereas iOS is "ZOMG, I'm a retard and even I can figure this out" simple. I don't think that's something Apple users should be proud of. Another issue is that with that brainless simplicity the Sheeple all love comes an inherent lack of customisability. f**k that. I can add and remove home screens put different widgets on the screens (such as power management apps!) and put on custom background pics, lock screen pics and so on. mad082
Reckon your nanna would know, or care that you can do that? Your inability to pull your head out of your arse is astounding. The vast majority of people do not know how to customise their phones, nor would they give a shit if they could. The number of steps to turn it off/on is not what I was getting at. You don't need to turn the GPS off in iOS because it only comes on when it's needed. EDIT: I think I need to clarify my point. I'm a systems analyst so I perhaps see things a little differently to most. The whole concept of a 'smart' phone, is a device that is exactly what you want it to be at that point in time. So whether that's a GPS, a gaming system, a word processor, or even (gasp) a phone, the device should take info from its bewildering array of sensors to deliver intelligent functionality. In addition, intelligent software design should make things as simple as can be, or automate things wherever possible. This means that, in the case of smart phones, every time you are required to manually switch things off, close programs or lower performance to save battery - that's a failure of the operating system to properly manage resources based on the normal usage of the device. You shouldn't have to change anything to get at least a full day's usage out of your phone.. that's my point. I realise batteries are shitty too but that's a whole 'nutha kettle of fish. android is like that. the gps only comes on when the app uses it, but you also have to option of turning it all the way off if you want to as well. Mayuri Krab
I reckon I should have gotten up early during Iphone 5 launch day, get at the front of the line & then sell my spot to some mindless isheep for $500-$700... ctjet
NOTE to iPhone 5 users: Don't drop it, it can't be fixed for months and could cost you a bomb. Replacement screens for Apple's new device are in such short supply that those unlucky enough to smash their phone - the most common reason for iPhone repair - will be forced to pay a premium, or potentially wait until after Christmas to get it fixed. And repair experts say the phone's new screen design, in which the front glass, touch sensitive "digitizer" and LCD display are fused together, means the components cannot be repaired separately, adding to the cost. Director of Sydney iPhone repair company IExperts, Patrick Lee, said worldwide stocks of the iPhone 5's new screens were so low that they were "effectively being sold to the highest bidder". "Our supplies are in severely limited stock, so at this stage the cost of parts makes screen repair rather cost prohibitive," he said. "At the moment, if you came in with a smashed iPhone 5 we'd probably charge you about $220 as we'd have to pull the screen off a new device in stock, and then repair that one when new stock came in." Mr Lee said he expected it to be at least three to six months before increased supply meant the cost could drop to about $149, slightly above the $129 he currently charges to fix the iPhone 4 and 4S. Repair technician David Tsang, of Sydney's FixPod, said the new design and the larger size of the iPhone 5's screen would also contribute to repair cost. "It's hard to estimate how much it would cost, but I suspect it would be more because the screen parts are fused together," he said. "It makes the screen a lot thinner, but probably more expensive." The only other option for iPhone 5 users who accidentally damage their phones is to get a replacement from Apple at a cost of $288.95. Australian tech website iFixit.com, which takes apart new devices and critiques their repairability, has also reported other internal components that were separated in previous iPhone models are soldered on to one cable in the iPhone 5, meaning it will cost more to fix just one component. Meanwhile, angry iPhone 5 users have reported scratches and nicks on their new phones straight from the box in a scandal online communities have dubbed "Scuff Gate". A poll of more than 1200 iPhone 5 users on Apple discussion website MacRumors.com revealed more than a third noticed scratches or chips on their brand new phone "out of the box" and almost half having the same problem within a few hours of unwrapping. "Simply from gently placing my phone onto the side of my Macbook Pro while it charges and I type, it has a small scuff - and it's not one that will wipe away, it is permanent!" wrote user alec6542. Another user, AbsolutC, wrote: "After removing the plastic and looking at the phone, the back chamfered edge has about 7 places where it's silver. Looks as though the paint has flaked off." The latest problems to dog Apples new device come in the wake of comments by the company,s former official "evangelist" Guy Kawasaki yesterday, in which he declared the company had become "arrogant". DivHunter
So they make the glass super (brittle) hard to avoid scratches then damage the anodised case when installing the screens. Fused all the parts of the sceen? Why don't they just fill all of them with resin and make you buy a new one every time something goes wrong. Idiots would still buy them. mad082
That's a bit of a useless test as he is just dropping them any old way. You can see from the way they are landing in totally different ways that it is hardly an accurate comparison. If anything, he drops the iphone more gently than the s3, which he sort of flings. So, while the results fair poorly for the s3, it's hardly a thorough test Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/403211-apple-cash-grab-iphone-5/page/8/#findComment-6555498 Share on other sites

*LOACH*
With all this talk of phones I have a request. Does anyone have (from an unused phone/player) one of those cables that goes from a headphone type plug to 3 RCA cables. (They came with Archos, Gigabeat, Creative Zen Vision Series, C own iAudio, Apple iBook, some Nokia phones etc etc. I need one for my Android tablet and can't find them. Even if I did find one it would probably cost a bit or be on the net requiring me to have a credit card, which I don't. I would prefer one with the proper connections, as per the pic below, but otherwise will just cut and solder. PM or reply here if you can help me out. Anyway thanks in advance. jaffadrifts
having shitty issues with my galaxy s2, consistant dropout issue, consistant with all networks. is making using the net on the phone a nightmare. getting charged for refreshing the page that didn't download in the first place. not sending mms and taking 20 mins to retrieve them. the only thing that has somewhat rectified the issue is a factory reset. have had 5 recharges in the last week. all of them have been replaced free by the network as they can see whats happened but can't offer a solution. and i know its the handset as my wife has same phone and hers don't have the same dropout issues.
