Skyline r34 gtt (rb25det neo)

I just installed some tomei poncams type b 260 degrees 9.15mm lift and as stated by tomei no need to upgrade the valve springs.

i also installed the adj cam gears but only the exhaust side would fit, intake cam gear didnt match the intake camshaft. so i just used one old and one new

the timing is perfect and the knock is only on idle and coming from the exhaust side.

at first i thought it was the CAS but not too sure.

im running stock afm and injectors at the moment but will upgrade once the knock has gone and it hasnt been tuned yet but that shouldnt cause a knock.

any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

If its an r34 neo engine, it has solid lifters

This!!

They should be a drop in application, if you have done that and have the Ex gear set right it should be fine... Mine are sweet :)

Just for future reference, whilst they may "drop in", valve clearances should be checked and re-shimmed as required.

Yep, nissans clearances will be a better guide. and 'close enough' isn't good enough either keep in mind too much it'll slap the valve up and slam it on seat, too little and the valve wont get enough time on the seat to cool.

Actually the initial/final ramp rate has a lot to do with choosing clearances.

Having said that, going from Nissan's 0.2 - 0.25 sort of clearance to the 0.45 territory suggested by Tomei sounds like madness. You might add 0.05, not more than double.

Don't trust those stickers, as part of compliance there has to be a sticker mentioning timing, clearances etc. Well mine says BTC of 15degrees (RB25), which if you know RB26's actually run a BTC of 20 degrees.

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
