Hi all,

First post here, have been a skyline owner for some time. I'm driving a bog stock R33 GTST S1 (1994) with approx 170xxx km's on the clock. During some routine maintenance (I'm a mechanic by trade) I've discovered oil in my intake, from which I deduce my turbo is on the way out. I doubt it has been off the car since production, so it's no real surprise it's on the way out.

Anyway, I have no real desire to chase big power out of the car (it's my daily driver and don't want to send my fuel costs through the roof) so I'm simply thinking of replacing the turbo with another stock turbo after getting it rebuilt. However, if I can, I'll stick another turbo onto the stock manifold and just keep the stock wastegate and run standard boost through it so I don't have to modify the stock computer and injectors.

So! The question I'm asking is, can anyone put me onto a brand/make of turbo that I can simply bolt onto the existing manifold/dump pipe? Otherwise, I'll just chase down another stock turbo and rebuild it.

Thanks guys.

(p.s, if there is another thread with this information, put me in that direction and I'll delete this one)

Depends how much is in the intake mate. It's a common occourance as oil get out top of rocker covers and is fed back to inlet of turbo making it look bad.

Maybe check shaft play of turbo and if its minimal up/down and no end float then its prob fine and its just 170k worth of accumulation

Putting someone elses stock (ceramic) turbo on your car is taking a big risk, you don't know how it's been treated or how high boost they put through it. You're better off getting a turbo shop like Hypergear to highflow it and replace the ceramic wheel with metal ones.

Just get a stock one highflowed by Hypergear, you can run it as the stock turbo if you want, or if you want to tune and boost up will make good power with good response, plus it's not a random ceramic that's going to blow up, it's a rebuilt steel wheel turbo, definite win.

Bw33zy, if your looking at getting rid of your old turbo soon then I'll take it and.get it high flowed. Looking around at prices of rebuilt OEM turbos so we'll see how that goes.

Okay sweet, well Im only just down on the central coast. I am looking to make around 250-270kw so will be possibly getting a hypergear turbo, nistune and supprting mods

Another related question... can you just buy a new turbo with a t3 flange and bolt it on using the same actuator etc?

You could, but those ling long turbos off eBay are junk. Better off just getting an used high flow OEM turbo that is in decide nick or just send your turbo to hypergear and get it rebuilt for peanuts

If u do get a highflowed turbo as the boys are suggesting the ecu will need to be upgraded,

So it all depends on what ur plans are for the car on whether u should upgrade the turbo and ecu etc.

As was said already the oil may be from the rocker cover breathers rather than the turbo seals themselves.

I recommend cleaning all the piping and installing a catch can in between the rocker cover breathers and the turbo intake pipe, this will stop nearly all of the oil buildup.

By all means tho if u wish to upgrade the turbo u should but within a few thousand km's theres a good chance the oil buildup will return to the intake

Would an ecu upgrade be needed if I'm running.stock boost (7psi)? I wouldnt have thought so...

Last r33 i had come in was running very poorly due to r+r with the highflow.

The r33 ecu's are very sensitive to airflow changes and get upset easily.

Not saying u deintely will need it but just be aware its possible,

But remember it may not need a new turbo just because of the oil in the intake pipe.

Another question... Anyone ever put a Garrett GT3582R turbo on their RB25? I.e do they bolt up to the stock dump pipe? Can get ahold of one for around the same price as a highflow on my stock turbo.

lagggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg monster, and from other cars I've seen you will need a spacer plate, new lines and a 5x bolt dump to down pipe, not to mention the intake pipe will need to be modded or replaced

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
