Urgent Borrow: Trolley Jack + Jack Stands

Recommended Posts

I have had 2 Costco jacks fail, if you leave them in the rain (even once) the seals will crap out on the pistons. Costco refunded them no problem.

The issue is Costco never have them in stock, as those ebay ^^ dropkicks keep buying them by the pallet load. Damn good jack though.

I'd prefer my heavy duty jack if I'm going to be using it a lot. The few times a year that I need to transport it somewhere other than my garage is the only time I notice its weight. I can lift it by myself into the boot... but if I had a bad back, or no muscle... It wouldn't be pretty.

Surely COSTCO would just order more than they can buy? Simple supply and demand that the COSTCO buyer would understand

I weight-lift everyday so weight doesn't concern me as much as low profile, good raised height and as cheap as possible meeting that criteria :P

They are probably a loss leader, so they might make buggerall on them...so when you order pallets and pallets of them you have to store them somewhere = less room for other stuff that makes more money.

no woz. i hope i wont be needing the muffler urgently lol.

Touch wood!

Im keen to get one of theses jacks as well

Let me know if you find someone with COSTCO membership :P

Hmmm you make a good point, so you think they only have them in when they don't have more profitable items on their floorspace. But the problem with that argument is that the demand is so great and the supply so short that the there is a deficit and this means upward pressure on the price to bring supply and demand into equilibrium. The price should therefore keep going up until people stop buying so many until equilibrium price is reached. Then there would be a greater margin and it could command it's floorspace against competitor products. The question then is, why is the price not rising. It seems there is a price ceiling but from what and why?

Keep the demand high and people keep talking about it... Buying costco memberships and the like...

Really though, who goes all the way to costco JUST to buy a jack... it'll turn into a $500 outing for sure :P

Hmmmm if they wanted to keep the hype up and get people buying memberships they'd have like a 1 per customer limit on the jacks :P that'd be so cruel.

I would go all the way to COSTCO in a heartbeat! Am I hearing that someone is an impulse buyer :P so true though. Go the the supermarket for just milk. Walk out with $100 worth of groceries /facepalm

No I think they have them to draw in customers and promote catalogues, as loss leaders do. Cause they know that once someone is in their store they are going to spend $100-$500 on stuff anyway. Though loss leaders do usually run at 1 per customer etc. so it's possible that the supplier simply can't meet demand.

There are many benefits to not meeting demand. For example, customer turns up to Costco and finds no jacks...bugger...buys some shit while they are there anyway. Customer waits til they are advertised next...goes in to get jack, buys some more shit = two visits from the one loss leader. Also, the more jacks they supply, the more of them that other sellers (eBay) will buy them to reduce their own margins on selling...so eventually you flood the market with your own drawcard and it's not worth traveling to Costco or signing up for that item anymore. Costco may have an exclusive supply deal setup where that jack can't be purchased elsewhere, in which case there is nothing to lose by keeping demand high.

We won't know the real reason l behind it, but I'm sure Costco management is smart enough to know where they could be making extra profit and where it's better used as a marketing tool :)

I have a membership and may be attending soon.

If u want a jack just pm me, send me your money I think $167.00 for the jacks, and I'll go pick em up, and you can grab them from my place or the next SAu meet

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
