Wanna swap role cages? I love the look of yours through the back window.

Roll cage rice? ;)

It's one of the more comprehensive bolt-in cages I've seen, out of Japan. Apart from being bolted into the floor, it's also bolted into the front, upper seat belt bolts on each side.

Made by a company called Carbing, probably long out of production.

That sticker on the top bar proudly proclaims in Engrish something like "Carbing - Enjoy Motorsport Spirits" (or something to that effect)

Still have the parts for the front section.

What's the deal in VIC with having a full cage on the road?

36c Day in Melbourne today.

Booked in to get the aircon checked out, at a place that does Hychill.

Let's see if an aircon system that hasn't been used in 9 years can still work :-/

Got these interior storage mats today. Thanks for the heads up Anfanee!

Was 30c today. Finally got the aircon sorted since I got the car. Regassed with new seals/valves with Hychill.

As far as i'm concerned. The car is as luxurious as a Bentley now.

How cold is it with the Hychill? I got mine regassed across the road and I'm not very impressed! I keep telling myself it's an old car, but I definitely think it could be better.

Pretty cold (so far). Cost me 205 dorra. How much was it across the road? I gave them the history of the car. They put an amusing disclaimer at the bottom of the receipt. Don't blame them really.

Seeing water temps at around 100c (on the HKS gauge), (93c on the Power FC), sitting in traffic.

I'm dropping it off @Racepace to get a couple of things done including taking a look at the fan clutch which might not be engaging. Also going to get a radiator fan shroud.

Bilsteins are out & the Racepace Teins RE's in. The first thing I noticed was how much lighter each coilover was compared to the Bilsteins.

Good initial impressions on public roads. Goes to show that spring rates are only half the story.

Bilsteins 7/5kg

Racepace Teins : 8/4kg

Have had them on the softest setting so far. They’re less harsh with better dampening than the Bilsteins. They do soak up minor bumps on the road rather well. Dips in the road, railway tracks and speed humps don’t have that big jolt that you’d expect. That said they’re still a track orientated coilover so they’re still very firm.

All said i’m still impressed with the Blistens as there is quite a price difference between them and the Teins. Am half tempted to keep them in storage.

Will post up some on track impressions later. Hopefully get it out to some SAU 2015 events starting with the motorkhana coming up, to get a better feel for them.

I need new suspension soon :\

What have you got in there now and what's wrong with them?

LOL. I hear you. But it'll look like the one I got within 2 track days, plus no moving parts and I need it this weekend :)

Old Teins, i may be able to rebuild them and see how they go. They are little hard for what i like. Though they could be f**ked haha

and yeah i suppose. Didn't think of track damage as mine won't ever see a day of it....

She is coming along nicely man!

BTW you got sick of that footrest yet? :woot:

I've heard that Tein Super Street's are pretty good.

Thanks mate.

LOL Funny you mention the footrest. I've got it all double sided taped but haven't put it on. Additional job for this weekend :)

Some odd and ends from RHDJapan for some upcoming small projects.

Brake Line A Clamps, Sideskirt clips & Nice shiny new replacement door handles.

On a separate note, I finally measure the offset of the 17"s that came with the car.

+0 Offset TE37's. Figures why they filled out the guards so well for a 9" rim.

    • Plazmaman 76mm Pro Series, done. Data to back it up, I posted up somewhere here a few years back
    • So.....wire it up appropriately. You can't use the resister pack with those injectors anyway.
    • that’s the thing i’m on ID1050s and haltech not getting power due to the injector resistor
    • ahh okay cheers, i was thinking of just going for the m073, think m079 would be way too overkill considering they are same size.
    • My first car was a HG. I'm very familiar with them. A mild cam upgrade is a good idea. The 186 is a very flexible engine - meaning it has good torque from down low. You can give up a little torque down low for quite a lot more excitement in the mid range, and a bit more up top - but they are not exactly a rev monster. You need to upgrade valve springs at the minimum. For a bigger cam, you'd want to make sure it wasn't still running the original fibre cam gear. That would be unlikely, given that most of them shat themselves in the 70s and 80s, but still within the realms of possibility. Metal cam gear required. Carbies are a huge issue. The classic upgrade was always a Holley 350, which works, but is usually pretty bad for fuel consumption. The 186S had a 2 barrel Stromberg on it that was very similar to the one on the 253, and is a reasonable thing if you can find one, and find someone to help you get it set up (which is the same issue with setting up a 350 to work nice). The more classic upgrade was twin sidedraught CD type carbs, or triples of same, or triple Webers. The XU-1 triple Webers being the best example. You can still buy all this stuff new, I think, but it's a lot of coin to drop. And then the people able to set them up are getting fewer and further in between. There's still some, but it used to be everyone's** dad and uncle could do it. **Not everyone's! But a lot. All in all, I wouldn't get too carried away with the engine. Anything you do to it without a full rebuild for power and revs will only make it slightly faster. I am all in favour of a complete teardown rebuild, with nice rods and pistons, 10 or 10.5:1 compression, and a clean port job with at least a big enough cam to run 98 with that compression, if not bigger. And if I did that to a dirty old red motor, I'd want to inject it too, which I'd struggle to fight against the devil on my shoulder that would argue for ITBs and trumpets. But the bills would start to mount up, and it will still never make stupid power. OK, a few people still know how to build absolutely mental red motors, courtesy of the work that went into HQ racing and modern knowledge being applied. But even a 300HP red motor is no match for an RB20 with a TD06. So you have to decide what it's worth to you. I'd just put a set of 6>2>1 extractors, a 2.5" exhaust and an electronic ignition conversion/dizzy on it and just run the old girl like the fairly slow old girl that she really is.
