There's a lot of ignorance flooding into this thread...wake up guys, short of finger prints there's nothing the cops were able to do. NO EVIDENCE. Doesn't matter how sure you are of something, if you can't prove it then too f**king bad. What you're expecting to have happened is absolutely f**ked when you look at it from an outside perspective.

The shitheads got let go, AS THEY SHOULD WHEN YOU CANNOT PROVE ANY GUILT. The only cockup here was calling the cops in the first place instead of flogging the shit out of them...and calling the cops was still the right thing to do.

I've had previous cars that i've owned that were broken in to numerous times and one that was stolen, and ever since it has been my opinion that car thieves should be shot....

Goodluck, I hope you catch them.

In 20/20 hind sight, if the police stood off, and waited for the car to drive down the street, it would have been a better outcome.

At the end of the day, all bravado aside, risking your life for a car isn't worth it. You just don't know who your trying to stop, and what they have on them.

Great talk on a public forum guys!

I admit I'd want to kill them myself but without any evidence they'll still get away with it plus you'll add a nice assault charge to your record ;)

Not really worth it!

Not to worried about it being a public forum.

I knew this when I posted.

The chance of ever seeing these guys is very slim.

A bit of fun with all the tuff talk :mrt:

Most of us know the reality of confronting people, i went to high school too.

(now i think about it, it was a BAD school, one of the students beat up a teacher, knives, drugs etc...the 80's hey what can i say)

An unknown number of strangers in the dark? Youd want some back up or your taking your chances.

Its easier and safer to scare them off.

Umm, for girl thieves, the punishment apparently is even more lethal.

They're tied down & forced to drink this...

they would have to prove it, and there would be no evidence, so no proof.

are you saying I'm fat?

cause I am.

and you don't get this big by eating sloppily.

Geez, you're sensitive!

But now you mention it... :whistling:

Actually I was thinking of the time Matt and I inspected an M3 near the 'gong.

We checked the most recent readings on the computer and the fuel consumption read over 23l/100Km > checked the tyres > feathered heavily > rejected

When I've bought cars off women, the whole interior has been cleaned out - although of course the onside wheels are always scrubbed.

After buying off guys, the cars have had CDs, E-Tags, receipts from red light areas left behind, etc etc.

The worst thing about this, is all it takes is for you to bash the wrong person trying to break into your car and then him and his 40 cousins know where you live and can make your life living hell!

    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1? Am I about to be burned by the fact my car is a 2000 model Series 2 R34 and thus will be some stupid other system? Do I just need this -> https://obd2australia.com.au/product/nissan-consult-14-pin-to-usb-ddl-diagnostic-interface-with-ftdi-ft232r-chip/ And with what software?
    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
