I can't see why the surge tank would be a problem. You may not be happy with Brad but that doesn't make his aluminium corrode. Plus I've been running one of his tanks about 12mths longer than you without any issues, there are plenty of them out there.

I think you need to look somewhere else. Feel free to point and laugh if I'm wrong

everything has been replaced

and now i can trace the source of the shit due to the multiple reusable filters

and there is definitely gritty alloy like stuff coming out of the surge tank

either way i will pull it apart and find out if its the problem

and put a fuel cooler on it now

Brad had a bad habit of not cleaning out his well-crafted parts properly and maybe that could be your problem big fella. I would stick with the fuel you are using,,,it has to come good sooner than later.

I have a purpose built fuel cooler off an X5 3.0l Diesel that you can use tiger. I currently run one on my car and it works a treat. Here's some pics for your love.

Not sure if its helpful or not.

Thanks for that mate, I looked before but gave up cause to many pages lol

So that is just a regular 23 row oil cooler with a custom air duct/protector ?

Looks very nice and neat

Yep, it will need some relocation or modification if i ever get around to doing underbody aero stuff... Its not really copping any air due to the diff being in its face but the fuel pumps have been nice and quiet since its been fitted so its certainly doing something, since the issue has been sorted we have not bothered logging fuel temps etc...

Neils compact design is probably a lot more practical and obviously more cost effective :)

  • 3 weeks later...

so last track day i noticed that after a few laps she started to get lean
and after about 6 hards laps would develop a missfire

so naturally i though my fuel was clogging my injectors again
checked them at the track and seemed fine
had them flowed and they were fine
anyway the internets told me when e85 gets real hot it leans out
and i decided that my surge tank was running dry ( its only about 1 litre and a average design)
the insides of the cheap alloy had ben oxidising and running thought the fuel lines as well
old setup
surge2_zps7e38a2c1.jpg
ill stick it on my r31 i think as it loves fuel surge

so fuel setup number three was drempt up

biggest walbro you can buy for the intank
fuelsetup4_zps57400d77.jpg
alloy 2.5 litre tanks( anodized so it does not corrode)
trusty twin o44's

booked in for the skynats at winton with two drivers and this thing drinks fuel so will go the flex setup so i dont have to buy 18 jerry cans

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
