Everyone is saying it was a good race (i just finished my sky sports download) and honestly the safety car really saved it imo

its still a Merc white wash of a season much like ferrari and the early to mid 2000's. The battle at teh end was stellar though but without the safety car I think it would of been another dud bar a few small highlights.. Also perez is such a wank, doesnt fit in at all! I loved watching the merc boys shut him out whenever he tried to talk

It is nothing like Ferrari in the early 2000's. Didnt hear the call to have Britney or Homo act as number 2 - they actually let them race which is something Ferrari never dared do. Plus they key equipment (ie the motor) is shared with other teams and Merc dont have the FIA in their pocket changing the rules to suit them every five minutes.

...but it did. When Dan pulled a nice move on Vettel then resisted Vettels attempts to get backl past whilst Dan was trying to get the job done on Hulk just in front of him. There was probably less than 2m between each of the three cars in breaking areas!

Dan put together a complete weekend. Did well in quali, raced well too. Beat his team mate and given the bullshit 10 place penalty he had did well to almost put it on the podium. Very, very good signs.

right now the first image makes sense, i was gonna call bs cause you can tell that the turbo was on the 'wrong' side from what id seen for the last couple of months....

thats smart and i think ferrari and renault arent gonna be able to make that change....not on this years cars anyway...

I think McLaren need to stop being so for lack of a better word elitist, Dennis and Button piping up to a select few big names saying "if you dont like it leave" I think they are just trying to get into the spotlight a little bit but trashing the others

ok, I'll admit it - Dan is a dangerous number 2! He very nearly ballsed it all up outbraking himself behind Kimi, locking it all up in a desperado up the inside... As the commentators said, good thing it was Kimi on the outside - the master of staying out of trouble. Otherwise it may well have ended as ingloriously as Maldonardo's little incident. :P

But he's driving very well otherwise. I'm impressed and surprised.

Maybe he took the fact that it was kimi into account when making the move, in the same way that we saw some great moves between alonso and webber at times because they both knew the other one wasn't going to do anything too stupid.

But Dan had some pretty good moves, like a few cris-cross moves after the back straight (turn 11 i think) or around the outside up the hill at turn 12 or 13. He showed some good racecraft.

As much as I hate to defend the tool, I think the reason why he got out of the way of Dan so quickly was that they were on different strategies. Had they been on the same strategy as Dan I think he would've done his best to fend him off.

I think it was a similar case with Magnussen on Kimi where the Fezz on old tyres under brakes caught him out with how slow it was and did a bit of swerve off track to avoid collision.

Kimi may have raced with a cracked chassis in Bahrain apparently.

The Ferrari's were still basically nowhere but, bit disappointing :(

And I cant believe Maldonado only gets a 5 place Penalty for his own stupid driving and Dan got a 10 place penalty for the teams fault. I think it should be a fine for the team not the driver in situations like that.

At least Maldonado has proved he is just an ATM. Wonder if he still thinks 'Lotus was the best move' Must be nice to know a team only wanted you for your money lol. It is a bit sad to see Romain at the back but. And I still like Lotus as a team.

Maldonardo got a 10sec stop-go penalty, 3 points penalty and 5 place grid penalty.

5 place grid penalty for causing a big acco has been standard for a few years.

The unsafe release penalty is due to the FIA coming down hard on it after RBR's f**k up last year where a tyre hit a cameraman, and this penalty was written into the rules. It's the same for everyone, and they've really only got themselves to blame anyway, having caused the incident that prompted the crackdown in the first place!

Maldonardo's crash wasn't terribly clever, but he's as fast as Grosjean. Not bad considering Kimi struggled to match Grosjean's pace in the latter part of last year.

I think Pastor is recognised as being fast...just not all that clever. And I think you will find that Romain would destroy him in a car that actually worked and was relaible. Give them 6 months and hopefully the car is at least Q3 worthy and see if we can judge the relative pace of them

I know why the unsafe rule is in place. I just think it is completely unfair on the driver when he has done nothing wrong. It would be better if they took points off the team in the constructors championship. A fine for the team would probably be useless but still better imo

I dont think Maldonado is as fast as Grosjean. I dont care either way I think he is a dickhead and doesnt deserve the seat when it could go to a better driver with less financial backing. But Lotus needed the money.

Yes, and Yes. But He isnt bolting wheels onto the side of the car is he......

Anyway, no point arguing about it.

This years races are crap, they line up with the weeks im at work not at home so far. Very annoying

Got my Gold GP Advantage letter today saying I can re-book my seats from this year. Want to change seats so hopefully whoever has the seats I want doesnt go or books later.

Red Bull say they are more confident about their appeal on Dan's DSQ in Australia. Hopefully it goes well. Dan is really impressing me so far this year. Didn't expect him to do so well so quickly given that its a new team with a car that will not have been built for him specifically

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
    • Are you 100% sure this isn't tune related?
    • 140-150 across the board. At this point hoping the grounding harness fixes it. My grounds are all tied to the chassis and none to the battery. For SR and KA that’s never been a problem for me but had a few other guys here and Reddit who told me RB really like a very solid ground setup tied to the battery so going to try that next, I’m stumped if that doesn’t do it. Never had a car have spark and fuel and not fire off before. Only thing I can think is the spark is intermittent/weak because of grounds nothing else really makes sense at this point
    • I am having close to the same issue. Can you help me with what wire you grounded to get your pump to trigger?
