the only difference to how i would usually wash was i used their under car high pressure clean, however its supposedly just water..

have a look at this.. after a coat of polish!!!!

i..

want..

to...

cry....

theres no way i could put it back on the car wash though. you use coins and they can jsut deny it!

i guess its good im insured, would they do a respray on something like this?

im genuinely shattered right now

Have your tried using a clay bar? Clutching at straws I know, but it might get some of it out.

They would have camera's at the car wash I would think. Its definitely worth getting back in touch with them. If it has happened to you it would have happened to others seeing as you rarely see someone chamois their car after washing at most car washes.

I feel for you dude, the paint looks immaculate in that other picture. Hopefully you can get it sorted out.

Ok, first take a breath, this is not as bad as you may think.

What has happened is you left water on your car whilst it baked in the sun. Terry showed us just recently the high pH level of water and unfortunately this just loves to eat japanese clear coat.

How do I know this is rectifiable? I went to a skid pan on sunday last week and my car baked in the sun with concrete water on it. One of the worst.

What I had to do? Take my random orbital buffer and with a lot of sweat I got the marks out. Do you have one? If you dont then find someone with one or go and get a professional detailer to do it.

Clay bar is not going to do shit, yes it has eaten into your clear, but by the pictures, it has not gone all the way through, this is a good thing.

Just never leave your car wet and in the sun. The soap you used would have been a contributing factor. I would imagine that it would be as bad as washing with dishwashing liquid.

hmmmmm, although my car was't in the sun, i came back and parked it undercover on base..

and alot of those appear to be straight through to the paint i can physically feel the deptch of the hole,

ill investigate this orbital buffer though!

if only you were in kuttabul here in nsw. I wouldve been able to tell you straight up if your f**ked.

But i can tell you that you will get most of it out. Definitely not by hand. Its either you buy one for $300, or you pay someone $300. Only thing is if you have one then you can always use it.

Ah yeh, you can feel it ofcoarse. But Ive dealt with much worse

Hard to say from the pictures but the roof looks like water spots which is a light etching but can be removed. The guard I can't really tell... Call a pro detailer you'd be surprised as to what they can fix without repainting and at a decent cost. Its probably due to the chemicals in those places, its all designed to be quick and easy but with overly strong products that can mess up your paint, plastic trim and wheels. you are much better off washing the car yourself, or at least bring your own car wash and just use the high pressure water, then dry the car shortly after as driving a wet car home will attract dirt and dust that you will rub into your paint when polishing or waxing

If you don't have a dark sh!tbox to test it on...

I would quickly go back to that establishment with a friend and video yourself collecting a sample of their detergent

> try it on an obscure part of your paint whilst filming

> exchange your phone details with others present, in case they suffer the same

> see if it does the same thing once more to your test panel

> proof supplied to DFT

That just looks like water marks to me. High calcium in the water I think? Don't quote me. Something in the water.

I used the bore water at my parents house once to wash my car, never again. Left water marks everywhere and had to buff them out.

I wouldnt stress and go starting shit with the place that where you washed your car, listen to Hadouken's advice, Mine was similar to that and it just buffed off (with a mechanical buffer and some good polish) From memory, hand polishing didnt achieve a great deal. Just take it to a car detailing place and at least ask their advice. Honestly I dont think its that bad, might be a good excuse to blow $200-$300 on a full detail to have it looking like brand new

Damn, scary moment! And very annoying!! Hope it comes off nicely for you...

In regard to using the coin op, wash your self places. Is it worth using the clearcoat or spotfree rinse?

or are you better to just use the pressure rinse?

I ALWAYS chamois before leaving.

and I note that you should do it at home with your own stuff, but that's not always a practical option.

Yes, it seems to be high calcium water stain from the car being left in the sun to spot dry .

Should never use a hand car wash or let tap water dry on the car . Good lesson for everyone else

Use a MF cloth , carry one of these EVERYWHERE .......

So will he have to use polish or any other product also?

Wow thanks for the replies guys!!!! Was a hella scary ordeal as I had never had that happen before!!

I spoke to the place and went back, they just denied everything and said something got on it between leaving the wash and parking.

N e how tried some different strength polishes and it IS Buffing out, Kind of... the first product I usedc when I flipped out wasn't a very strong cut... So thinking ill need to invest in an orbital polisher... I'm a little worried about how the clear coat is going to take it. I'm concerned I won't get it back to 100% but I'm hopeful now :)

I feel a little sheepish now... Lesson learnt to ALWAYS dry post wash!!!!

Any tips for using an orbital buffer??

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
