once I installed it I drove down the road laughing my head off.

Also in my spare time I bought a front and rear bar which I might install after the next track day just to make it easier to get on and off the trailer.

(from Viva Garage Melbourne)

Just entered Sandown SAU day on the 30th of Jan, so keen to test out these tyres! from what little time I spent driving home from the tyre shop they gripped up incredibly well!

Also keen to note down some camber settings that people are running?

next to come will be brakes :)

This might give some useful ideas on what direction to take with suspension

Awesome wheels mate, great colour too!

Re alignment, I'm currently these settings with stock wheels and 20mm spacers all around:

FRONT L R
Castor 6.48 6.56
Camber -2.05 -2.10
Toe In 0 0
REAR L R
Camber -0.45 -0.45
Toe In +1mm +1mm
Car felt great at Sandown last month, I might see you there on the 30th if I get my rack reco sorted on time..

thanks mate I like the idea of your Toe and camber settings, is it to aggressive for a cruise down the coast on the street? is your car registered?

These are the issues I'm having, I don't mind running aggressive settings to get the most out of my tyres, and then after sandown ill re-vert back to a more street friendly setting.

As my next track day after sandown won't be for another few months. (hopefully will be phillip island)

finished the gear stick surround today, I mounted the GFB adjustable blow off valve controller recessed back into the plastic, looks so neat, I'm really happy with it. Always managed to mount the odd things really well like the GFB boost controller fit perfectly in the space of a air vent :)

finished product -

Yeah it's registered, with a second set of wheels and semis for the track. These settings are a reasonable compromise between street and track, and tyre wear seems pretty even.

For track only I'd probably run around -3 front and -1 rear camber but that would be tough on the street tyres.

feedback from Sandown - the 34 had a bit of understeer into corners, not sure if was just coming in too hot or if tyres were wrong, it just felt wrong. so I'll take it to a garage in Melbourne to have it aligned better.

however the Achillies seemed to be ok but ill save my review for after i get the 34 aligned.

I trial fitted the front bar it looks amazing! It'll be getting painted rather soon.

I've had a small change of heart and am now heading in a different direction with power, I'll be changing over turbos and adding an external gate, swell as Cams and split fires.

Good update cheers

Did you check your times at Sandown at all? I had some oversteer at Sandown early last year, adjusted my rear swaybar and put in stiffer springs all around, went back December and it felt great. There's a gazillion ways to address over/understeer behaviour, sounds like alignment will be a good start (with the whole 'change one thing at a time' logic).

Where to next with the turbo? I'm tempted to upgrade to the latest SS2 at some stage on the 34 and go ext gate off the stock manifold, we'll see...

ZX's looking good!

Thanks mate :)

Yes my times did improve dramatically, but thats because I came back with Semi slicks, and sway bars, I dropped down to 1:30. (5 seconds better)

but yes will be starting with a proper alignment, and yeah looking into shock works suspension, but more keen for some decent brakes at this stage (so much moneys!!!)

so currently my exhaust manifold is sitting at Havoc fab where its having the External gate welded on.

I have sold my high flow turbo, and was looking into Hypergears ATR45SAT but I'd like to do a bit more research on Garett, Kinagawa and Borg warner turbos before I make my purchase.

I'm not in any hurry at this stage so will let you know soon as I buy something :)

Cant wait to get my zed!

Been looking into front bars from viva garage, what the quality like mate? did it fit well?

Looks great

so far so good, I haven't had a chance to test fit the rear bar, but the front bar ligns up well, its made from decent fibre glass and has lots of flex in it too.

The front bar appeared to be too wide at first, but once we flexed it into place and put a screw in it held well.

Viva garage has a lot of good feedback and was recommended to me by someone who is mad keen on that "fresh fitment - hella flush" stuff lol.

Thats good to hear haha, is that the bar that requires a GTR bonnet + reo and brackets?

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a quickie - Hypergear made up my ATR45SAT today, Getting my external gate thats been welded onto manifold from Havoc tomorrow, and just bought a HDI intercooler.

happy days ahead!

thanks mate ^ went from fast n furious fanboy to track day and practicality parts in about 6 months. Sound system is long gone now.

Got my exhaust manifold back from havoc after 4 weeks, firstly they told me the manifold I sent them was cracked, so they charged me $70 for a new second hand one, then when I got it back it hadn't been ported and polished like they said, it didn't have the Havic plate welded on - not that it matters but it'd be nice! And then it didn't fit! I had to drill out the holes and attempt to port it myself, needless to say wasn't very impressed, then later realised there were bits missing my from external gate, so yeah that was frustrating but got it on in the end.

HD cooler looks so neat inside I hope it makes a difference.

All the goodies I have to install :)

post-89929-0-04861400-1462868516_thumb.jpg

I took of my Tomei FPR and changed it for a turbosmart FPR because Tomei apparently aren't recommended for use with E85

Had to relocate my windscreen wiper bottle to get the new intercooler piping through.

ended up heating up the bottle with heat gun and re-shaping it. Now it looks like an aborted potato.

unsure about using the throttle body as I've heard I may be better off using the standard one (unsure why will do more research) but this one looks awesome it'd be a shame not to use it.

I bulk orded a heap of fake Takata harnesses as I am now selling them so hit me up if you want one for $100. they look awesome and are Cams approved :)

At the weekend just gone I had my Tomei 256 cams installed by a pro mechanic, was also going to get him to instal the Cam gears and clear cam cover,

post-89929-0-30756500-1462868972_thumb.jpg

however he ran into a problem when the Cam gears didn't actually fit!!! Mega pissed off! then i realised i bought the wrong ones (R34 GTR)

post-89929-0-61791200-1462869001_thumb.jpg

Turns out R33 gtst, R33 gtt 33 gtr and 34 gtr all share the same part number so i think i had the correct cams just don't know why they didn't fit.

however Cams went in no probs.

Got a Boost gauge connected into the turbo hot side outlet to see just how hard its working, also will be good to see pressure drop across the cooler.

Thats about all for now, will get the Freddy sand blasted before installing it, and ill hit it with the Die grinder coz its rough as guts.

more soon - Daniel.

Port and polished the Plenum today, it definitely needed porting there was bits of Aluminium slag all over it, and inside the ports too, nothing the dremel couldn't take care of.

Probably going to regret painting it oneday, but the colours are so shiny!

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
    • I NEVER think about using a scissor jack unless there is absolutely no other alternative. f**king things are dangerous, annoying and stupid.
