Hi all

This should be really be in "do you know what grinds my gears"

Every time I go to the auto shop all I see is that every brand claims to be the best, and that really really I mean really gets up my skin..... To the point I wanted to buy the oil and start doing testing... myself at own cost but that’s expensive

1. test I will one day do is a heat test... take 0.25ltr of oil put on lab stove at 300c see how long it take to turn into sludge

test are very expensive so that’s why oil company do them but no one shows their Competitors

showing a test thats said our oil gives you 20hp extra then competitor 1 competitor 2 or 3
to me comp1 could be home brand olive oil and comp2 coles brand motor oil

you get me anyway I gotta cool down just writing this made me have 180 over 120 blood pressure

Enjoy the link. taken me a long time to find, some oils are outdated but it’s the best i got

if you have any independent tests that you got your sticky hands on please share :D

Running Royal Purple at the moment, glad to see its good wear properties!

Not surprised by Motul's low wear rating. I have used it in several of my bikes in the past (Motul 5100 and 7100) and it has consistently made them run worse (more cam noise and vibration) than using other brands such as Amsoil and Siloklene.

yeah... that whole test was rubbish and was debunked shortly after. the magazine even issued an apology

"The information we've learned since then suggests the test we performed may be irrelevant. Some sources have advised us that the test we used would have been better served testing some of our favourite greases rather than the engine oils we commonly use on our street cars. Sure, we did the test with the best intentions, with a level playing field for each oil and no preconceptions as to who would perform better than another, but when, and if, we mess up, we like to think that we're man enough to set the record straight."

But don't believe in every thing you read as they probably had to write that because the big oil boys got upset!!!!! and threatened with legal action against the tester.!!! Wouldn't you do the same if someone tested your product and found out its shit and realized that you spend all the money on advertising and sponsors and not in research.

To me this test is viable because it's a wear test which is important aspect of oil testing.

Yes it's not the only test out there are many more test which is listed below but they are expensive and some oil will excel in test others not, I consider that more independent test will show the truth about oils this is 1 out of 13 so I rather lean against this test results then going blind into a shop and picking the one that spent millions on advertising saying they are with technical partnership with Ferrari yes it is in partnership with Ferrari but hay they not going to give you their special additives for you to use because then renault f1 will start using the latest formula.

There is still :

sludge test

Molecular structure

bonding test

Spectrographic test

PQ-ferrous debris quantification

oxidisation test

nitration test

particle size analysis content viscosity after exposure

fuel dilution

soot content

wear debris contamination

SO MY POINT IS DON'T BE EASILY FOOLED.

do research on everything

I hope this opened some people eyes.

As it did for me I stopped using one product and changed to other one

And yes I did notice that my tappet went quieter in my diesel with new brand.

Meh I wouldn't buy a SN rated oil, thats about when they dropped the Zinc content significantly so as the to extend the life of catalytic converters.

True true but you would be surprised with the various types of zinc remember research is the key don't be spoon fed !! With bullshit :D

Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphates two types ZDDP different to ZDTP is a phosphonate instead of a phosphate and is similar to the above ZDDP

But in higher stressed areas the new ZDTP is better off

But this going into advance chemistry. Never mind

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
