Go to tuner

Ask what they recommend

Choice made

I haven't made my mind up regarding a tuner... Danny from springy is pushing for Autronic. My new auto elec (who is not from this world) knows mostly people from professional motorsports circles and he recommends products/brands/people that import forums haven't got an opinion on.

It's tough from a consumer perspective to read the brochures and opinions and get a feel for how it works and its limitations. I'm wary of tuners who push for certain products because they are distributors.

I didn't know Danny was back at Springy motors?

Yeah but...in this case I'm for it.

Before we get high and mighty about keeping the jobs "in Australia" how much per hour is the union also demanding the person holding the go/stop sign gets paid?

Performance based increases would be nice instead of standardised, negotiated for all rates. Then we know the dude holding the sign would be going the extra mile for his dollars.

I don't see how he can lay claim to a pay increase over anything but inflation - it's getting harder and harder to flip that sign 180 degrees.

It's just pathetic.

We got 4% last year and have another 2.5% coming this year for a bunch of people that are already paid above average and get annual bonuses + shares to boot. This was negotiated less than 12 months ago.

This isn't good enough for the union however and they are dropping pamphlets around trying to rally people into complaining for more based on our group profits. Its f**king rediculous.

I'd rather skip a payrise and keep my job away from the Philippines thanks. This has already happened at other banks and they keep pushing.

Unions do NOT just have workers interests at heart.

Why the f**k should we have to give jobs building shit in Australia, for Australians, to Australians.. It's ridiculous. f**king militant union thuggery.

China, 75,000 work related deaths in a year. 200+ deaths a day.

Australia 180 work related deaths in a year.

55/100,000 vs 2/100,000 (before anyone wants to try pull the population card)

There's a reason they can build shit faster and cheaper, their workers lives are just another consumable.

Haha you psychic. Someone is talking me into some UK 4-cyl specialised shit. Cheaper than most standalones too.

Cheaper until you realise that hardly anyone in Australia knows how to tune them, so those who do charge out the butt... or they actually don't know what they're doing and you're up for the cost of a new motor (again).

Getting ripped on my private health insurance

Fkers are charging me $55 a fortnight for cover equivalent to $40 a fortnight

Have been keeping me on an old plan because it pays them more and they can increase the premium every year without changing my level cover, in spite of reducing the costs offered to new customers to be competitive with other funds - criminals

That's not a viable argument it would be built here under our laws and regulations. Who's the union to stop private enterprise keeping their costs down ?

What happens when they bring in the Chinese real estate agents willing to work for less commission? Do you cry foul or accept that your job isn't worth paying what it used to be?

Which could be a bit of a near reality given the advantages to having mandarin speaking agents these days...

i know what you mean, but the DTAFast ECU's are a pommy company. apparently popular with big motor jags and cars running ford/cosworth/zetec/millington engines. someone out there must tune them!

it may be a shock to some, but there is a world outside of turbo imports and ECU's outside of the US, Japan and Aus. and i guess im trying to find out what does what better than others.

an escort that was finished the other week running a DTAFast

Omg this shit again. Real estate is un regulated and has been for ages you peanuts. So it has been happening as long as I've been working in it and even longer

People pay us what they choose to pay and willingly no government or union intervention

Try again with your failed arguments, seriously it's embarrassing arguing uneducated points

Fwiw it's the Indians who work for fk all but guess what they are rogues do a crap job and the owners get thousands less for their home rather than pay us a couple grand more they 'save' .5% but get $30k less. Smart huh.

    • @Haggerty this is your red flag. In MAP based ECU's the Manifold pressure X RPM calculation is how the engine knows it is actually...running/going through ANY load. You are confusing the term 'base map' with your base VE/Fuel table. When most people say 'base map' they mean the stock entire tune shipped with the ECU, hopefully aimed at a specific car/setup to use as a base for beginning to tune your specific car. Haltech has a lot of documentation (or at least they used to, I expect it to be better now). Read it voraciously.
    • I saw you mention this earlier and it raised a red flag, but I couldn't believe it was real. Yes, the vacuum signal should vary. It is the one and only load signal from the engine to the ECU, and it MUST vary. It is either not connected or is badly f**ked up in some way.
    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
