Fk days in leiu... I take the monies

lol my GM offered me some weekend work saying I could get time in lieu for it...but my direct manager (below GM) is a stickler for that kind of extra curricular work just being an extension of your professionalism; i.e. you should do it just out of passion for work. I've attended trade shows on weekend etc. and this often comes without so much as a thanks.

Direct manager is somewhat of a bully who often tries to overrule the GM himself.

We have no HR manager or Patrick.

What do VWL?

Reply in email to DM stating that as per GM request you would like to take up the weekend work in exchange for TIL

my next weekend that I'm not working is after christmas.....

no cash, no TIL

All just part of being a professional at times.

I'm only one pay grade off that life again.

Next role will be no TIL no OT :/

All comes down to having clear goals at start of year. If the weekend work enables you to achieve your KPI/goals then its a tough situation as it can be used towards/against you at your performance review.

Weekend work tends to be classed as 'development opportunity' or as evidence in showing the right behaviours towards the business. (which again could be a factor in your performance review)

My boss told me from the beginning that if you want to achieve an "above expectations" ranking you would need to work on breaks if required. Days in lieu offered though.

Ther eis that, when I was on a much lower salary then yes OT/TIL was always offered.

and I chased those Public holdiay/OT hard core for some extra $$

but yeah once to get to a point it kinda expected to be included.

I might not get TIL but I get to work from home often so when we not busy I'm avalible if needed but I can have a nice cruisy lunch with Katie, or work on the car so long as I answer phone if something crops up.

so it all works itself out over time.

Actually getting the TIL isn't so much an issue for me as taking the TIL and giving my DM the perception that I'm unpassionate / not a team player / unprofessional / not willing to put in the hard yards. A colleague in the same department as me concurred something similar and knocked back the work from the GM - he's scared to ask for sick leave let alone TIL, because our DM has these expectations that unless you're dying you should be working, you should arrive at work before the expected start time and stay long after the expected home time etc. and that your weekends should be spent thinking about work.

We really need an HR - there's not one person who has anything nice to say about my DM and most of these people do not work directly for him like we do. Company wide reputation as a bully.

so lets slip you interviewing and thinking of leaving...that could only end well

I think once you reach a certain level of pay or role within your company then the title and remuneration fairly compensates all the extra work you put in and this is expected by both employee and employer - all part of that wonderful word "salary", unless you're a tradie...

But my DM is on about 150k a year and I'm quite far from that - if I was on his salary I'd fill my weekends with work no problems. But I'm not, so I have all the downsides of the professional career and hardly any of the perks (work from home, bonusesand reviews based on exceeding KPIs etc.). Staying until 5:30/6 most nights and that not being recognised if I'm 5 minutes late on one day doesn't sit well with me either.

actually from that I would be interviewing and moving on.

hostile environment plus that nah bugger that.

either that or knock off your DM and get his job (and ask for a pay raise over him)

could be worse. you could be chef again.

though by now you'd probably have a tv show.

my experience with HR is they provide f**k all. its a place to lodge complaints and handball situations, knowing they will never be resolved. and also good for subtle threatening for people who are not acting professionally.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
