Customer supplied items, especially second hand...should always check they match up with specs.

I'm glad RacePace did this when I supplied them with wrx injectors lol, which look exactly like nismo 555s except the spray pattern and slight pintle cap difference

I also supplied custom pistons, rods, crankshaft and an otherwise apparently working engine, with a lot of custom parts.

Exactly who measures head studs? What do you compare them to? There's no measurements or dimensions on the ARP website, they don't just have sets of $400 head studs hanging around for no reason other than to just measure them up.. they thread in the block, they're labelled ARP, they came from an assembled engine and randomly thinking some muppet is going to install [something] into a RB instead of using the part made for an RB, for literally no reason isn't something you'd expect.

Like, who would think you'd put in 2JZ head studs (or whatever) into a RB?

And why wouldn't Subaru injectors work/check/be investigated?

I have an American crankshaft and rods, custom pistons, Japanese oil pump, different cams, etc etc etc etc, the injectors aren't Nissan, or Mitsubishi, or OEM, running aftermarket computer, etc. People put LS2 coils into RB, why not Subaru injectors?

I do suspect the wrong head studs is probably why the engine's gasket blew/head lifted in the first place which is why it went to Headspec to begin with, as I was very much over [removed's] work at the time. Given no one could really determine why it failed, other than the block looking like it had done 300,000km since the build and being ovalled, everything else 'seemed' OK.

Maybe found the culprit now :P

im glad something was found and its being sorted.

good thing you suspected something before it got worse too. its not really worth getting on the blame train so quickly before something is diagnosed.

Yep, as funny as it seems, it's probably taken 5 years + of my life, and $25,000+ all due to someone's complete ineptitude.

when you think about it, is actually not very funny at all..

35mm is a huge difference in size for bolts in a crucial application; I'm surprised it was not picked up just looking at them if they've done arp bolts on that engine before. Perks of someone who regularly/mostly works on only a few types of engines I guess, which is why RP spotted that my injectors looked ever so slightly different to 555s.

The fact you've persisted with it for so long is amazing

The thought to just bin it all has happened many times, but I couldn't in good faith sell a disaster to someone else, it's just not the right thing to do. I didn't want to be that "someone" so.. one must keep trucking.

Just... so many things wrong!

yeah maybe. sounds pretty boring though.

surely there is only so many 4G's, JZ's and RB's you'd want to assemble.

I think if it was up to Barry and profitable, that's all he'd do. Still cannot fathom how someone who works on Skylines and Supras day in and day out is still enthused and excited to talk about them, moreso than most enthusiasts.

Not if you sell it according to what it is. And price accordingly

money.

its like anyone who specialises in a certain aspect of any industry. people around you talk about it, you work with it every day and it becomes second nature.

Nah he's properly excited...you'll spend an hour there just talking about his other work and personal projects. Passion is unbelievable.

    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
