Happy with that for the 1st outing in the GTR. Pity about having to cut it short for a pesky exhaust manifold leak. . . :P

OK, just got home after competing in Round 4 NSW Supersprint at Eastern Creek. I have improved my best time and now have a fastest lap time of 1:50:3900, timed by CAMS. The car was going great and the only thing that was changed from the last outing at Eastern Creek was one of SKYLINEGEOFF'S hicas lock bars was fitted and this modification steadied the rear end and made it much more predictable. (Thanks Geoff). 2.13 secs improvement. Unfortunatly the day finished early for me when i blew a exhaust manifold gasget, but still drove the car home, 4hrs drive.

had a great time down in nsw on the tracks, wish we had tracks like that up here in queensland.

cheers russell

queensland.

Absolutely amazing times there esp considering it was your first time out...well done....straight to the top of the class I think.

Also saw that you got home 3rd in Dutton, :wavey: looks like you had a great weekend out!

OMG - well if it isn't a GTR blowing away those RWD cars in NSW!

What is the world coming to when when the latitude theories are dispelled?

PS - Drunken - when are you organising the Mexican invasion?

yes, but snowman, it's not a NSW GTR... it's a northern import. perhaps those theories are restricted to NSW GTRs??. ring ins don't count...

Good times:thumbsup:

Previously all the GTRs getting around NSW had std turbs much like all the GTSTs, most mods were rtyres and susp etc, not aftermarket turbs. Interisting to see how Carlo goes when he gets his car sorted with some semis?!?!?!

The ppl spending the money are GTR owners. bullant is out there though in what looks to be a nicely sorted rwd car with good power, good susp and just well setup:)

muahahahahaha that was soooo funny.... russell you should do a search for that thread, posted by "franks" if I remember.....

Team Trackday is pretty quiet up here at the moment.....but my car should be on the road fairly *soon* maybe we can convince everyone to get out again......

hi guys

thanks for your comments, the car went great and we had a blast.

that was before the second last stage when we shit the engine after blowing a heater hose and cooking it!! oh well good time to put forgies in it i suppose.

btw thanks duncan for the attessa controller it worked a treat! highly recommended.

hope i can get around to some sprint days with you guys, but not till after next rally . too busy rebuilding! :D

cheers russell

Russell - "next rally" - does that mean you are competing in Dutton Vic as well since I think you've done QLD and NSW already? If so we already have a group of 4 cars entering for Vic so we'll have to catch up.

I presume Simmo kicked ass in the EVO in NSW again btw?

yes we are really trying to get to vic dutton rally, simmo did an outstanding job again.

he came 1st outright co driver and 1st outright team.

the driver with me (as i was co driving) won 1st outright driver of the event.

which was a bit of an upset beating martin nortorias, the car ran 10.852 down the 1/4 at w.s.i.d which turned a few heads. had an absolute blast.

definately will catch with you when we get there, i hope all the gtr's give them

something to think about.

Cheers Russell

330kw's my ass then! LOL

If you make it - our little group have already been given numbers 65,66,67 and 68. Not sure how they do it in NSW and QLD but they split us up into 2 groups of 40 in Vic. When we put or entries in they had no problems putting us together in the same group so we could have some fun together for the weekend. So if you want to you can ask Anthony or Sam to put you in our little group as well.

My car is the least powerful of the GTR's at 325rwkw's. So we'll be ready to join in the GTR assult on Dutton Vic. However, one of our little group is driving an imported STi RA and I have a feeling he's going to kick all of our asses. But we'll see.

But don't expect Martin and Simmo to have it all their own way in Vic. They sure didn't last year.

Hi Andrew

Sounds like it should be great fun, 330 kws at four wheels is what the dyno said.

but we hace straight cut gearbox which has definately helped gear change times.

all the gtr's down there should be great, i have driven an ra sti the are shit hot for handling and getting power down!

yes they did sound checks in queensland! and i almost got told to go away! they werent as bad in nsw but my car was alot quieter for that event 95db. i know a porsche got pulled up for noise in nsw dutton.

looking forward to it!

Russell

    • You're not wrong but 5W30 at 100C is like 10 cSt vs 25 cSt for 10W60. If we think in terms of viscosity margin 10W60 will probably still be ok at 130C but 5W30 is probably too little. It's absolutely shocking how hot the oil gets in something like a stock FL5 from only ~3 minutes of use on the Nordschleife. I would not risk taking a car like that to anything remotely intense without a ton of work done for cooling. Heat shielding on the manifold/turbo/downpipe, oil coolers, etc.
    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet.
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.
    • Oops... I meant to include the connector  view... BR/W - power from fuse L/W - motor negative to fan control amp (and off to HVAC pin19) OR/B - PWM signal (from HVAC pin20) B --  ground
    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me.
