Best And Worst Live Gigs/groups & Why

Recommended Posts

best: greenday (homebake brisbane - 2000 iirc) great set, then poured something flamable onto their guitars, drum kit etc, lit it on fire, trashed their equipment. Needless to say they were escorted off stage by security

worst: blink 182 big day out 2001 - played 2 or 3 songs in an hour set. talked about their penis' until eventually booed off stage (people started pegging shoes, bottles etc at them)

Worst; Blues Traveller. Not sure what we were expecting, I was going to see John Popper on the mouth harp. The Metro was the venue and it was half full only but of really drunk country-men dancing, bumping into each other and then pushing each other. We lasted 2 or 3 songs.

My sister saw De La Soul for the 3 feet high tour, she said they were 2 hours late and then played for 40 mins. That would suck.

On the flip side, I saw De La Soul a few years ago for the 20th anniversary of 3 feet high and they toured with The Roots All Stars and it was amazing! Supported by Cut Chemist.

My favourite is probably seeing AC/DC's Black Ice tour at ANZ Stadium and not only for the women who lifted their tops. :woot::rolleyes:

AC/DC with Bon Scott at the helm years ago at Wagga...........best ever!!!! [And I've seen them 3 times since]. Thats when they were dirty, brash, and loud.

Worst Lucinda Williams at the State Theatre 2010??.......my missus liked her and I really liked her Live at the Fillmore double CD [she reminded me of Neil Youngs Live Rust which was another great album]. Was that zonked out she could only just manage to stand up, and had to keep reading her lyrics from an auto cue. We felt like asking for our money back!!!!

Funny you should say this, I saw De La a few years ago and they came on early if anything (I missed the start of their set), played a short set and it was all wrapped up fairly early. I was very dissapointed. Would have loved to have seen De La/Roots/Cut Chemist, damn thats a line up!

I saw DJ Afrika Bambaataa the last time he came to Perth and the gig was straight up amazing! Best gig I've ever been too.

Best: rage against the machine at Adelaide big day out circa late 2000's.

Worst: Arctic monkeys at hordern pavilion few years ago when they went all soppy. It seemed like they didn't soundcheck beforehand very well and just sounded off.

Im usually pretty selective about bands i go see. Usually its a rowdy or abusive crowd that spoils it.

Massive Attack at Sidney Myer Bowl. Had never been there before but sound wasnt bad, just open air is so hard to capture or sound effective. I paid $160 when tickets came out, no one was buying them so they dropped to $80.... Then $40. Was so pissed off.

The Horrors at Corner Hotel. Smaller venue, big sound and lots of smoke. Saw them again at The Forum and it just wasnt the same.

How To Dress Well at a short-lived venue in Brunswick. Came on stage drunk, polishing off the remains of a bottle of Jack, abused the sound guys any chance he could get as there was lots of feedback. Decent gig but super awkward between songs.

Not so much a gig but I've been going to "One Day Sundays", it's basically a cool Sunday sesh buy Sydney hip hop collective "One Day", always a few cool hip hop DJs on the decks and they go around the country doing Sunday sessions in major cities. If you can get to one, do it. They are really great.

    • I don't think the shuffle can damage the turbos. It only happens at low shaft speeds and loads. It's just annoying (to some people - others are tickled by the effect) and it quite possibly reduces spool performance a little bit.
    • Oh dear. The panel beating needs to be done before the filler work. Do you have a photo of the dent before you started? Hard enough to not flex and only hit the high spots?  What do you mean it was just temporary?
    • Can u check this way it works for power supply?

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
