Bnr32 Gtr, saving a Datsun

Recommended Posts

So abit of an update

I spent abit of time starting to re-tape and refit the body loom back into the engine bay

20160619_200645_zpsztijukdt.jpg

I didn't take any pics during because it took abit of concentration and was abit of a sticky mess

20160619_200635_zpsnovwjwpm.jpg

Some new retainer clamps and other bits and pieces

20160619_200622_zpsmue3acmw.jpg

It still requires abit more work around the fuse box but I'll finish that off later

So i posted earlier i bought some nismo lmgt1, the specs on those are 18x9 +24 and 18x9.5 +14, the plan was to put wider lips on the fronts and make them square.

Sadly the 1.5" lips required aren't sold so back to the drawing board on those

Id already come to terms with having to buy 18x9.5s as the 18x10s just go for way too much, id bidded on a couple sets and they had gone for 3500-4500 for poor condition wheels

So i magaged to track down through a guy intetested in my lmgt1s for his 180sx a set of the rare 18x10s

And here they are

Unfortunately they are completly in white which will look abit funny on a white gtr

So heres what's planned

 received_1040621419308337_zpsjwtml9jw.jp

So I've dropped the ssr indy 500rs off to be rebuilt

Centre's are going gunmetal grey, bored out for new o-ring  centre caps, new 90 degree valves and polished lips

Once they come back the nismos will go away and lips polished and I'll leave it at that, they were only refurbished a year ago so they shouldn't need any work to the face

Cheers

I admire the dedication in retaping the full loom, its a sticky job!!!

Love the wheel choices too, pity most of that style of wheel now fetch stupidly large amounts of money, they do look awesome!!

Nice thread. I definitely am enjoying the progress of your resto and the attention to detail you put into your work. I think a new box of tissues is needed now though.

Thanks man, if you guys keep commenting ill keep posting

i love the small details of a build so try to focus on them alot myself

So Abit more of an update

received_1046756248694854_zpsi8kzro3q.jp

Finally got my box of parts back from being plated, took about 2 months

received_1046757005361445_zpseoyers14.jp

Parts turned out pretty good this time

20160629_121421_zps9seaxxsw.jpg

Shouldn't need to use these but was more of a test to see how they'd come out

20160629_125807_zps4sjc1gzc.jpg

Plated the reinforced brake pedal so it doesn't rust under the dash, new plastic spring retainers

20160629_130614_zpsvi2gvm4y.jpg

Reassembled pedal

20160629_121856_zpsnawige78.jpg

Managed to get the pipes back on, the top ones look much better this time round, I was Abit fussy with these as they are quite visible

20160629_121859_zpsgkonusui.jpg

I know most people think I'm being overly anal about it but I think the outcome is worth the outlay in the end

So now I can finally finish off the piping setup

So Abit of an update on the Ssrs

8665f782b373265383bb5db77a2f6046_zpskcp3

Wheels have been stripped
Centres have been sand blasted, the factory coating apparently is like very thick powdercoat so hasn't been easy to remove

8d1d33b3d870d080318a41f6a172c987_zpsloui

Lips polished up

55a517dcb853aad9ea56eea9f0ca4a59_zps47nr

Centre bore machined out for later style centre caps

So they are just waiting painting of centres then putting back together

Some more new parts ordered for the old girl

received_1049454888424990_zpsb2bx8gdr.jp

The original corners were pretty good, but I sold those off and bought new old stock corner indicators, cost an arm and a leg now days

20160704_153544_zpsicwbjasr.jpg

Also brand new braided brake lines, I didn't like the fact that most aftermarket lines didn't use the factory mounting points

So I found something like the nismo ones but that has the adr approved double crimp

20160701_174426_zpswbxbaaxm.jpg

And last but not least I bought a exhaust system that's seen minimum use, not sure if I'll use it yet or not, the hks front pipe I have no need for but I have a stock cat so the sard cat will replace that and the rear section of exhaust is a kakimoto, I'm tossing up the idea of selling it and making a custom exhaust I'm not too sure yet

Cheers

Whats the latest with this build?

Would like to know also. I saw this listed for sale on Gumtree of all places a little while ago and thought to myself WTF. I hope that was a joke of some sort...

    • Me too. Apparently the new version of Invision will allow some customisation so look forward to a 'Love' reaction and a new 'Like' icon.
    • Which injectors are you using? It's likely the fuelling is off also, so as above.
    • Awesome to know. I have a Series 1, and When pulling my front bumper off for the first time i realised my reo/crash bar was a bit worse for wear, and was going to try pick up a better one soon just so i can replace it. Someone is selling a full series 2 front bar and brackets for a decent price, so was going to probably reuse my brackets and install the new second hand reo/crash bar. I also have a genuine Altia body kit to do up, spray and put on, and not sure if that will use the series 1 or series 2 brackets for the front bumper, so having both will be handy, and knowing i can drill holes out to make stuff fit between series is also handy to know!
    • I should also say that the while they are different the only parts that matter are the center headlight supports and center bar from S1 to S2. The center bar will work, but the S1 has holes that clips go through into the S1 bumper. So if you were super cheap you could simply drill the S2 bar. Same thing with the side/wings. They have slightly different 'clips' but can be made to work. The center headlight brackets however, cannot. This is also where the GTR differs, which has a different center bar, and different headlight supports (to either GTT system), it also has different 'wing' headlight supports which is what I am calling under the headlight. However those CAN be made to work with the GTT Reo for a GTR front bar by a small spacer and a drill/tapping a thread into the reo because the bolt positions are slightly different. So people only really need the center brackets to go between GTT S1, GTT S2, and GTR if you are happy to do some tinkering.
    • Indeed  😃  Appears the site is back up now (migrated not updated) - kudos @funkymonkey & @PranK
