Voodoo, out of curiosity, what did that whole exercise set you back? I wouldn't imagine it would have been cheap.

It would be more than a bit disappointing for sure!

Whats the plan now? Will you leave the twins on there for a while?

Will PM you

I think I would have you in my old school -9 setup mate. Bummer to see.

Would one of those cores fit into a T28 housing... My Silvia might like it

Yes, i am dissapoint son..

Well, they might be up for sale soon lol

Don't feel bad. You tried something and you reported back honest results. Much respect from me.

I try to do the same but this place can be hostile sometimes lol

Hopefully you recover as much of the outlay as possible and onto something better (if this result can't be improved to your satisfaction).

I still have my -9's so it's tempting to just chuck them back on, go E85, Kelford cams :-) :-)

Dont do that lol! Throw a 7670 on it and make more power EVERYWHERE!

Sell 9s and HKS frankenfails which will pretty much cover the manifold gates.

Also go 1.05 rear mate ?

When you make a PHAT 380-400kw with stock cams & E85 with better than or close to stock twins response COME TAKE ME FOR A SPIN! ?

mmmm, good read......as always on SAU

Certainly makes me question doing a similar thing I've been toying with for some time now (have my -7's rebuilt with -9 rears and -5 fronts :-/).....staying low mount twins no matter what...

Was also looking at using a mob in Sydney to do the turbo job who replied the same to you :13_upside_down:

I honestly dont think there is any magical combination that will work better than the old GT series -7s to -5s for the stock low mount setup unfortunately. There are just too many issues working against them. I have to say i agree with Lithium and say probably only the GTX2860 wheel would maybe just still have enough turbine flow for that compressor.

Just makes me wonder though.

Does anybody actually know if the billet GTX wheels are lighter than the cast GT wheels? Is it really worth it?

-9 rears with -5 fronts are hks2510s pretty much, some people think theyre ok.

i really dont think the billet wheels are different enough to be worth the hassle to change into gtr specific housings though

mmmmm, so really if i'm set on staying low mount twins but chasing more power & (same response (ish) than -7 power, i may as well just follow what ActionDan has done and get some -9's, cams & E85!?!?

What I had initially planned:

I have picked up a set of -7's (one blown) cheap as i suspect I have a failed turbo seal with one of my -7's.

I was thinking of selling off the two good -7's and rebuilding the two failed ones but try and chase more power (currently 310rwkws @ 18-20PSI....) thinking/hoping high 300's...

Sorry to thread hi-jack, just didn't think this warranted a new thread...

Hypergear can essentially "highflow" a -9 as well, with a bigger billet comp wheel for some more grunt.

This would be interesting. Wonder if it would turn out anything like my GTX2863 debacle lol?

I suppose they would keep to the same trim/inducer and exducer size rather than going huge comp wheel, but just give it a billet wheel?

Pretty much i'd imagine. Still don't think it would be worth the actual cost to do it anymore

A friend made 365awkw wtih -7's on E85 and 25psi on a good motor. I'd say if you really do want more then its time to get -5s

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
