1998 ER34  GTT skyline, I am in the US, looking for info:

-what fuel should be ran in this car, completely stock RB25DET?

-what plugs and gap?

-what oil for engine?

-what trans fluid?

-what coolant for engine system?

-rear end diff fluid?

thanks all

All that stuff is in this site. Have a look at the FAQ just above your post. Google each item and have a read - you will learn a lot. If you get stuck come back and ask.

I do not find any info on fuel that pertains to pump fuel that is available in the US, we are really lucky to find 91 octane, never seen anything higher then 92, will this be a concern because of the fuel lower resistance to detonation? everything I read for else where it sounds like 98 is commonly found. 87 to 89 is what is normally available around here.

once in a while I find "Non-oxygenated gasoline" but this only pertains to it supposedly not having any additives but an increase in fuels oxygen content. the fuel has no ethanol and is to reduce corrosion problems. but doesn't affect octane rating.

I am also thinking that as most other "newer" cars I have the computer is constantly adjusting the timing for ignition depending on various sensors and readings, therefore preventing pre-ignition knock. is this same for the ER34 GTT skylines?

never had a turbocharged car, looking for sound advise.

America uses a Different octane rating. I'm surprised you didn't already know that or find that when googling for stuff.

Just use the highest octane fuel that's available.

But here comes the sound advice, don't buy a skyline in America. They re a stupid amount of money and there are way better options.

I have goggled all of these things and read stuff for many hours before I posted my first, in doing so I gain no real clear answers, this is why I posted here as I was told it was suppose to be a community of people who knew these intricate details, it is clear that everyone has their own opinion, I am not looking for opinions, I am looking for facts. like stock fluids that came in the car when new. if you don't know please don't reply, and don't send me a link to Google or search engine.

Mate find the service manual for your car which is readily available with all the info you require. I understand this is a community but help is offered to those who at least try to help themselves. Don't take it to heart.

Are you intending to use the genuine Nissan gearbox oil or are you seeking this knowledge to improve your trivia?

No one ______________ NO ONE  uses the genuine oil. so why care? These cars arent special, they dont need some kind of magical approach to service and maintenance.

gearbox will need a rebuild anyway cos of thrashing, regardless of the 80,000 indicated on odometer.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
