I'm looking for an indoor dust cover for my R33.  The old one I have is sort of plush velvety material, could even be compared to a thin hoodie type material, very easy on the paint etc.

So am looking for something the same......note I don't need an outdoor canvas type cover.  Also not really interested in anything over say $300.

There are a heap on ebay, but none really nail down what the material finish really is, so an online purchase would be a fingers crossed sort of gamble.

Anybody have any recommendations or experience?

Disclaimer: I don't drive a 33 and I haven't ordered mine yet because I'm waiting for the next sale. From memory it was under $300 then.

Possibly an odd recommendation but bear with me. I was talking to someone about their C34 and it was under a fitmint cover. It fit perfectly. None of that generic car shape rubbish. I asked them about it and they recommended it. They also happen to be a detailer by profession and they care about paint. They pulled it back because we were talking about the car and it seemed pretty soft. I didn't touch it myself though. But it's definitely not the shitty-cheap-bunnings-outdoor-tarp-material that some products try to sell. All in all it's on my shopping list but I'm not in a rush so I'm waiting for a deal.

Maybe that helps :)

I don't have experience with their car cover, but I have their floor mats - it's really nice.

Second that. Have their floor mats as well and am quite happy with them. I mean, they sell different fits for all combinations of AWD/RWD and AT/manual, how good is that.

Did you end up buying a cover @tridentt150v? Fitmint have a 20% easter sale on everything currently.

I ordered mine this afternoon. With shipping it still ends up being $310 for the cover for the wagon. But oh well, it is a nice piece and I have been waiting for a sale for a while.

No, not yet...its on the list of 'things to do' , but have been spending $$$$ on a concrete parking area and a cattle grid etc.

Will get to it.  let me know how yours goes, looks, softness, finish etc ok?

Go to spotlight, buy some super soft material. Done!

Not sure if you are serious but I kind of tried that. I went to Big W or k-mart and bought a $20 bed sheet / blanket cover set. It's soft, large fabric and should do the job just fine. Or so I thought.

Yeah nah, it was pretty shit. It didn't actually keep off the dirt that well. And it didn't stay on the car well either. If there was too much fabric at one end it tended to slide off. And it wasn't quite long enough to cover it properly on all sides either. YMMV.

I don't see an issue with spending $300 on something that is well-made, fitted and works. I do have an issue with spending $150 at supercheapauto and getting a piece of shit glorified stretch of plastic tarp :)

It's what we had on dads 55Chev (And still do have) for the last 20 odd years.
Not thin cotton sheets, but good thick soft material. Was multiple pieces stitched together.

Worked great, and still is working great :)

Nothing against someone wanting to spend $300, just the option that I'd go with is the other way. If you've already given it a crack, and not liking it, definitely go the route of the nice big made one. I just like to keep my money to spend on extra things, ha ha!

It finally stopped raining and I had a chance to try it out. This is the one I got: https://fitmint.com.au/collections/car-covers/products/c34-stagea-indoor-car-cover

Looks: Great. Would fit right in for a showroom display. That is if it wasn't a big-ass Volvo underneath.

Softness: Super soft. Would totally wear something made of that material. Hard to describe but in your words "plush velvety material" sounds about right. If a shitty tarp is on one end of the spectrum it's the polar opposite. Zero concerns about this causing any kinds of scratches whatsoever.

Finish: Great. The cover seems fine. The one complaint I would have is that both inside and outside are black with just a slightly different finish. Made it a bit hard to tell which side was which at first. Probably not an issue anymore after packing it back up once and knowing how it was.

Fitment: Excellent. Fits like a glove around the whole car. The material itself is quite stretchy. The bottom has elastic / rubber to hold it on. No straps or anything and it holds on tight. Has enough material and play to go over exhaust and all the way to the ground covering the tyres as well.

Dust / dirt proofing: Had the cover on the car for four days after washing it. Normally car would be covered in greasy / sandy dust by then. It was still clean after I took it off with no hints of dust. So first impressions are good.

Practicality: Comes with a little sleeping bag kind of bag to store it. Good stuff. The seam started ripping on it when I tried to put it back in but that may have been on me because I tried to cram it like a sleeping bag. This fits easily into the bag and there is no need for force.

Overall: Very much worth the price tag in my opinion. Will have to see how it holds up over time but my initial impression is excellent.

Some photos of it. Also compare to the generic outdoor cover in first photo that I used before and which fit like ass.

A mental note to keep in mind. That 4 days of dust that would have been on the car sits on the cover. If you don't get it off the cover before you unwrap the car, especially if you just pull it off and roll it up, then the dust finds its way to the clean side and sits there as a ready made abrasive for next time it goes on.

Good point, I was wondering about that as well. I tried to fold it making sure that the outside layer is folded in first along the length of the car. Then folding / rolling up the rest is just inside material touching. And go the other way around to put it back on. Also with this one because it is soft and not a tarp it folds quite easily.

Not sure if there is anything else you can do, really. Other than brushing it off a bit. Actually, living somewhere where the garage doesn't have shit blowing around all day would help :D

18V leaf blower to blow the dust off and out the door can work, depending on the physical situation of course. Perhaps even better is the completely paranoid approach of using 2 layers. Either 2 identical covers or just some other sheet on top. That top layer can be taken out and beaten clean(ish) and put back on the under layer without anywhere near as much fear that the paint will see it. It's all just a balancing act between money, time and paranoia.

F**king leaf blowers! My theory is that the constant leaf blowing around here is half the problem.

I kind of like your two layer idea. At the same time I'm running original paint that has seen at least 150,000km over ~25 years. Some potential micro scratching is not a major concern. There's me hoping I'm not going to regret saying that later on :D

Actually, I take that back. Any scratches that are added now are there to stay. There is no buffing out anything as there is not enough clear coat for it left. I'll be careful.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
