Consistent look and feel is very important. If you could integrate all the posts into ONE column, then have a "type" field which could contain say WTB, Auction, Fixed Price, it would have the best of both worlds. The hyperlink then sends the user to the post - which means you have all the parts in one list.

The mouseover brief descriptions were great.

i am not really sure what you mean... ??

i think its good, just the more it can be made to look like the rest of the forums the easier itll be to navigate for those who find it hard to catch on as it is. i can see already i think uve got the top bar the same between the forums.

the pictures on the whole (in the ad list bit, not viewing individual ad) are probably a bit big, same with those down the bottom. and this is from someone on a large res, so the problem may be moreso for lower res users.

I think its great.. solves many problems of the old classified, and as people start posting I think it will look more "full" and the advantages will be clear. No chat is almost a good thing, cuts the bullshit - and also i LOVE the photos right there straight up.. and ads that don't have photos look crap and don't draw attention which is the way it should be. You want to see what the item looks like you are buying - or just browsing its good to look at.

Its all good, encourages people to get off their ass and buy a digital camera or at least look for a picture of a similar item. If you want to sell something, make an effort!

Suggestions:

* Items after "X" days should be automatically removed unless automatically the user goes in and clicks some "i am still selling this item". Not sure whether this is facilities for this, but stops people coming on, posting the item, and then never responding to queries - or its sold long ago but people keep enquiring about it (least better than the old days of people bumping up threads for items sold 2 years ago!)

* Location should be an "always displayed" column - for larger items shipping makes many items only relevent if you're in the same state/area. As important as photo and price to me and others i assume.

Ok, well I generally dislike the new trading system: call me strange, but the standard forum seemed simpler to me.

Anyway, a few points:

1) Can we get the default view changed from "Most viewed" to "Most recent" (or some permanent preference somewhere)? I generally want to see the newest stuff (or threads with newest replies) when I go into the classifieds, not the stuff that's been there since day one (and thus has the most views).

2) The quicklinks menu is stuffed -- it all points to the /classifieds directory rather than to /forums

3) It doesn't feel that well integrated. I too had to login to the classifieds section (haven't checked the last few days though).

4) The colour scheme needs some work. There isn't enough contrast: black text on a dark-ish blue is very hard to read. Changing the text to white would help a lot (and be inline with the rest of the forum).

5) The "post a comment" link really needs to be supplemented with a nice big "reply" button IMHO so people know that can actually ask questions in the thread.

Anyway, short of bringing back the old system, those are my suggestions so far.

I second that suggestion. Most recent would be good.

Christian mate. Good to see you updating the site, but I have to say I preffer the old for sale system too.

Richard

just my 2c but i like the old style also. It was easily to post, read and searching for stuff in the for sale section was a snap although I know Christian has been singing its praises for the new sections linking to the search function. I still go through the normal for sale section before browsing the classifieds.

I personally don't like all the images that automatically come with the classified section. If there's something i'm interested in, i'm happy to click the link and then open a photo or request a photo be sent to me. If i'm not interested, i'm happy not to see a photo.

Just my feedback. Thanks.

sorry guys, catching up to all of this.

Please be patient on the classifieds, I haven't had time to finish them, but I will shortly.

Bass Junky - please post the problem in the bugs area, thanks.

Christian

Sorry to dig up an oldish thread (ok, less than a week, but anyway...) but I think that with a little getting used to, the new classifieds format is much MUCH better than the old one. Yes we're all used to the old format, but have a flick through and the photos, price and location in the thread list is awesome, as is the automatic housekeeping (ie auto-delete of old items). I've posted up a couple of problems in the bugs section including the group buys one by the way.

All in all, good work champ, I'm impressed if that counts for anything

  • 4 weeks later...

Is there going to be an advertisers/sponsors for sale section? I often like seeing the specials that Nengun et al offer specifically to SAU.

Also, when are the old classifieds going to be shut down because its weird have two concurrent systems (and confusing!).

Lucien.

Hey Guys - check out the new classifieds update, its muc easier to use now and has trader ratings (click their names in the classifieds - i will integrate it with the forums profiles shortly).

Lucien - very soon, just making sure that everybody is happy with the new ones.

I think the new classifides will only become successful once the old system is phased out.. too many people are advertising in the old system (inc. me) because the amount of viewers of threads in the new section is nowhere near as high.

If I want to sell something, I've had more success through the "old style" sections recently..

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
