Are the bosch ones like the Nissan/Splitfire ones or like a lead/distributor sorta setup?

UMMM yeah

I dont know the way it is set up is that the coils are mounted on the rear firewall and the ignitor has been move to sit underneath the Coils and then just run 6 leads to the spark plugs directly from the coils

Its coming from the side of the coil. Does this mean there is a small crack on the side? You can see burn marks on the side from where it is getting warm from the little leak..

yep means theres a crack, tape/glue it up and see if it improves

I will be having a look at my coil packs this weekend, as I currently have 4k-5k+ rev problems.

I think I will clean them first and have a good look, and glue them if cracks are obvious.

I think replacing them will be the best option in the longrun.

Will let you guys know how I go.

OK so my mate helps me take out the coils on my GTT. We look at all of them and can not find a single crack or blemish, they all look new.

We tape them up anyway and go for a drive, problem is still there.

So we decide to gap the plugs at .8, SO FAR THE PROBLEM IS FIXED!!!

He reckons it will be fine from now on, I hope he is right.

Hey, It all depends on whether urethane is heat proof and has good electrical insualtive qualities.

Basically you need to insulate the coil packs from arcing if there is a crack in them.

Use whatever, as long as its heatproof to about 130 deg c and is an electrical insulator.

well i did it, i just used a razor to apply a liberal coat onto the front of it where i saw the crack (only 2 had cracks, and 1 had a burn mark)

.. im going to leave it for a while to dry.. heres how they look now..

ill post results later.

i just stuck them in and now its running alot better.. its still early to tell if the urethane is reliable or not but so far its looking the goods..

it costs around $18 a tube for the urethane.. im just not sure what the heat resistance is.

ive had the same problems, but in the end im purchasing new coils, they are not spitfire ones. This guy in NZ is selling them cheap and provides a good spark.

i have purchased it and yet to put it in, but the feedback from customers is great. No more missing at idle or revs.

tried this with alrodite (how ever you spell it) still got 5k missing problem, have to bite the bullet and get some spitfires i think.

Haing a look back in the thread, it seems that most problems are either cracked coils or bad spark plug gap. If it wasn't this then it was fuel problems.... like fuel cut or blocked injectors...

My RB25 180sx has been missing from about 4 grand fro ages now. It has been driving me nuts.

I pulled out the coli packs and there didn't seem to be any cracks, so i just taped them up to be sure. That didn't work.

So I followed the advice to pull out and gap all the plugs and also sprayed the small coils under the rubber boot with WD40.

Now the thing is running beautifully again :)

I have done this as well.. Yet to put them into the car.

One other thing I did was get some VHT Engine Block paint (400+ Degs). Taped up the electrical contacts and the very stem of the coil. Then gave them about 5 complete coats each.

Now I know that every possible section of the pack is coated one way or the other.

did the vht engine block paint on my coils (fire red). Seems to keep em cooler and works great.

The only problem is they take a long time to dry.

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
