Ok - I've made this so you can stop whoring my B'Day thread.

Scene now is crap :)

Best music was back in the late 90's.

Back with songs like:

Breeder - The Chain (best dance song ever bar NONE)

Lustral - Everytime

DJ Mind X - Nightingale

Der Rite Rum (?) - Hale Bopp

BT - Forever June

Binary Finary - 1998

Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar

etc etc

Nothing in todays prog / trance comes close. Although The Matrix - The Matrix was close. I reckon todays dance - house has it won.

Or maybe thats just because "Im a dirty vinyl pusha"

Cosmic Baby sold out when he did Energy 52

Age of Love was the peak then it went down from there...

Hmmm actually I think Rock-it was the peak, after 1980 there was no good music.

Actually, I think it peaked at Beethoven's 5th... 6th onwards really were too housey for me.

Dave Joy - The Third Pleasure ( Uberdruk remix )

Unix - Overdrive your Speakers

Junkfood Junkies - The Journey

and

Pretty much anything on the Tidy UK or Tidy Trax label.

If its UK Hard Dance or Hard NRG, sign me up and I'm there.

If you don't like the scene now, that all good. Just don't get involved with it and everyone will be happy :)

I'm so damn bored of hearing people whinge that "its not as good as when I was involved back in the day".

Debating the merrits of the Club / Rave scene or which genre of Dance/Tech/House is the most relevant or "best" is as useless as a similar discussion over cars. Everyone will have their opinions and convincing them otherwise is impossible.

Just go do what ever you like but I pity the fool who tries to get between me and my Friday night.

I am a big fan of Goa-psyNRG... but only the new stuff.

But in all honesty, I am just a big old boring 90's trance boy.

Though you listen to the "classics" and they sound very "bare" these days, just made with old technology I guess.

NRG can be pretty cheesy, but I still like it for a friday night.

I like Jungle (specifically) and most D&B, but I have no idea how to dance to it.

I'm not sure if I can agree that the scene is crap or I'm getting old??

LOCAL BOYS Late 90's + 2000/01 - In order of appreciation...

1. Phil K -

2. Will E. Tell -

3. Gab Oliver -

4. Jason Digby -

Best Venue's Late 90's + 2000/01 -

- SUNNY SIDE UP (old palladin / hellfire venue)

- MANSION (no longer)

- VM's (Virgin Marys - also no longer)

- VIPER (till it got "wog-da-fied")

Also, now days... no good recovery places that I know of anyway.

Now and beyond 2004... FUNK & FUNKY HOUSE

Honkytonks is the only good place I've been to in 2+ years - not that I have benders/munch frequently anymore - seems that most "bang'en" places are filled to the brim with "FLUF" and "BUBBLEGUMMERS"

EDIT: Any hole is a GOAL!!!!!

My 2c

I like Jungle (specifically) and most D&B, but I have no idea how to dance to it.

lol... you gotta love some nasty drum n bass... it has a pretty good scene in Melbourne, still pretty underground so it keeps the tossers away...

So funny being at a dnb party and watching people who haven't really heard it before, trying to dance to it... ;) they always try and dance all fast, trying to keep in time... but it runs at like 180bpm so you have to kind of dance on every second beat...

BIG rave coming up at Kryal Castle, if you can be bothered... 15 internationals or something... my friends are running the dnb room, so should be good :freak:

Adelaide seems to have a big D&B scene... :band: <-- ignore that guy

Coolest thing I saw was some acoustic D&B at Bennett's Lane...

The musicians were all very tired afterwards as you can imagine.

dnb rules. its the only shit i have a dance to.silver room at sublime goes off!

anyone got that trance n bass cd mixed by john b that came with a mixmag?

i consider it to be the best dnb of all time. so hard, tech and with the mindblowing highs of the synth over the top its just unreal!

if anyone wants a copy feel free to pm me

Andrew

Putting a topic like this that's so close to my heart I just had to respond ;)

Not interested in getting into a discussion over which era of music was "better" than another, rather just wanted to relay my experiences on this front.

Having dj'd for over 13 years (mostly mobile dj gigs tho) i too have a huuuuge soft spot for the early 90's era of dance/house music. The last time i did a 'classics' gig (7 months ago) i played many of my fav 90's tracks and everyone there was at least 25 yrs of age and it just took them back to the days of their youth and they loved it.

Tracks i played:

1. God save the queer - Klatsch

2. Moods - Desert

3. Variations of a theme - Moonchild

4. Until we meet again - Bladerunner (Sasha Mix)

5. Southside - Dave Clarke

6. In the dark we live - Afrohead

7. Red 2 - Dave Clarke

8. Spank - Subsonic 808

9. Peppermint Lounge - Lemon Project

10. The Search - Trancesetters

11. LSD - HMC

12. Environmentality - Microglobe

13. Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar

Other 'classic' house i enjoy dropping:

Passion - Gat Decor

Punchunella - San Transisco

Zulu Nation - House Pimps

I want you - Itchy and Scratchy

Reach - Lil Mi Yin Yang

Your Lving Arms - Billie Ray Martin

Shine on - Degrees in Motion

Kinetic - The Golden Girls

Playing with Knives -Bizarre Inc

Been getting more into more mellowy vocal house tunes of late (getting too old for this sh1t!!!). Tracks like:

Can't help myself - Penis remix feat Kai martin

Surrender ur love - Jask feat Jocie (Soulfuric label ...great label)

For me - The Beard freat phillpa hanna (kaskade remix)

Can't Stop - Reep People

I could go on all night as i flick thru my vinyl collection ;)

PS RTF GTR Phil K, Jason and his brother Simon Digby are all good friends of mine. In the early 90's I use to frequent DMC record store mostly every Tue (or whenever vinyl shipment come in) where Phil K would work and then I'd also go to Rhythm and Soul down the road like it was going out of fashion!! The money i could of spent on my car instead of on vinyl!!! But i wouldn't change it for anything. I remember Gab Oliver, Andy Van and many other talented lcoal dj's all use to do the same rounds on those days and we'd all know and acknowledge each other with a "hi how ya doing" I felt really important back then :)

Another local 90's rave scene DJ that i thought was great was Voitech. Not sure where he's gotten to these days but he'd go off at Every picture tells a story parties.

Anyway that's enough from me.....for now ;)

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
