Can anyone confirm this?

I have been insured with CGU through EBM brokers for the last year and today I went to query them on my policy renewal and they reckon CGU is no longer doing import cars and they will have to search for other insurers.

So far they have got "Torque underwriters" I think. Anyone heard of them??

And a $300 dollar increase on the policy too, great!

No crash, no claims, higher premium. Damn this import game really sucks balls.

Any feedback would be good, and other recommendations handy aslo.

$1300-ish I am looking at paying at the moment.

Cheers,

tAy

Yeah Niz, I'm pretty sure once your policy expires CGU won't renew it.

EBM/CGU are pretty good, although my policy expires in less than a week (much less) and they hadn't bothered to inform me of these changes until I called them up today.

Doing the big quote fest right now. Hopefully I can keep the premium around the $1000 dollar mark which seems to be the going rate.

insurance contracts act states you require 2 weeks minimum notice on changes to the insurance companies policy in the form of a derogation notice in your renewal.

did you receive a renewal??

EBM or CGU should have sent you a renewal at least 2 weeks before the renewal

i think you could be entitled to free cover hmmmmm free cover larghalarghalargha

contac the ICA insurance council of Australia and ask them what the deal is with no advice of changes from CGU or EBM cos they are essentially the broker and your insurance company

I didn't get any renewal but I knew it was due so I double checked and the called them. Hmm Ok I'll do some investigations, see what I can come up with. Free insurance cover....tell him his dreamin'

If you didn't have a policy with them and tried gettin one then no good :) I used to be insured with them bout a year ago and sold my old r33 and then only just bought another one bout 4 months ago and was told they don't do them anymore.

They got bought out by sgio. my broker told me that they will not insure any imports at the moment .

hbf will though and are quite cheap. downside no boost controller or no aftermarket ecu :P

try hbf

DON'T!!!!!

The insurance policy is not worth poo. They took over 6 months to get my car back on the road. I had to argue with them to get the repair done properly. After selling my car they continued to direct debit my bank account for several months and then had the gall to ask me to prove I had sold the car!

They might be cheap but, their insurance is worse than paying for repairs yourself, at least you don't have to wait 6 months.

The joys of havin a 4 door...................$895 Insurance even covers my GF (under 25). :looney:

4 door r33 $750 Unique Car Insurance for $18,000. Stay away from HBF. Was with them for 2 years, unblemished record and then they wanted to stick it to me.

Then they had the gall to phone and query if I was renewing after I had told them that I was going elsewhere. The dumb bitch asked who I was insuring with and when I told her and how much I had been quoted, she said that they would match it. Yeah right. $uck on this.

Unique are pretty good with mods also. Don't know what they are like with the youngsters.

ive already had an 8k claim with them previously , choice of repairer who i new so no problems with the work , no issues with the claim , done in a couple of weeks .

but insurance companys can be like that i guess , hot and cold

Sorry mate but, I have to rant here.:P

HBF have no idea what a quality repair is believe me I know. They don't supervise the repair at all. They send an assesor out, he screws the repairer down usually on the quality of the repair materials used, approve the claim and walk away. Good if you break an indicator lense, bad if you have major panel work and engine repairs. You might get your car back in two weeks ( I would have ) but, you'll have more bog than metal in your car and be worse off than you started with the mechanicals.

I had choice of repairer also, infact my brother worked at the shop. What they attempted to do to me they would have got away with if it wasn't for the fact that I am not the average customer. I actually have a technical understanding.

I would find it hard to believe the repair you got was with anything but second hand parts and lots of bog knowing HBF. I got mine repaired the way I wanted too , only after pointing out the legal position they were in and after an independent engineers report.

If anyone is prepared to do what I did for a claim to be propperly repaired go HBF, you will get what you pay for.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
