In fairness to the blag flag Robin got - when he change gears on the stright you couldn't see anything for about 20sec afterwards. I've never seen smoke from a car like it.

Except for maybe pontiff's engine. Feel for you there mate.

Otherwise - other than my little ABS issue the day was great. No-one hit a wall which I'm really happy about. A few people had some moments - Gareth in just about every corner for example - but thats ok.

A few beginers only had a few runs but again thats ok. I think again it gave them some good experience and showed them a little about how much they can improve their driving. Jack was a great example of someone who has done heaps better on his second outting than the first time. Confidence is a great thing.

Was also great to see Jeff Beable in the Targa 33. I love that purple paint job! Also Jeff - you mentioned an R34 but I didnt catch whether it was an N1 or not? I know you dont usually post on here but I'd love to know if it is and when we can see it! :)

Aaron running consistant 1.50 flats the first time in the GTR was damn impressive as was a special mention to Blaise who stayed with us on the Friday night. Was his first time at PI and was the fastest WRX on the day (1.51) despite there being faster and more worked rexes there. Damn impressive. And frank broke the Club lap record with his 1.45.75 ( was 1.45.78 held by a porsche)

Roy's 1.58 was expected and being beaten by Gareth was gold! LOL. But the first timers there - Wayne, Denham, Jack,Gareth, Anthony's, Westy, and Robin did a sterling job really and I hope you all enjoyed the track.

And for those that missed out on passenger laps because of me - SORRY!

Gareths footage was funny, every corner sideways:thumbsup: Street tyres and 1:57s is a great effort.

It would have been interesting if Ferni and me had got a few more laps bumper to bumper, it was the carrot i needed to try that bit harder and forget about thrashing the car:)

Yeah damn me trying to outbrake you on turn4 haha

Still damn impressed with Gareths 1.57 in rwd street rubber car! I got a 1.57 on street rubber but i cheat with 4wd and his 1.57 was about .3 seconds faster than mine!

What was the deal with your motor, Robin?

Nothing wrong with the engine... just needs a catch can installed (bought one on Sunday)

With the T78 the dump pipe is quite exposed so all the oil that would of gone in the catch can or re-directed on a standard RB26 set up was spitting/flowing directly on the pipe and what a show... heaps of smoke. Looked like a Cheech and Chong Movie :(

Installing the catch can when I get some time later in the week or B4 next track day... I'm going to all the track days I can... hooked BAD! Driving home all I could think about was... should have done this...should have done that... why did I sit out the Super Sprint...how fustrating.

LOL, you were even doing the braking in the middle of the road, so when you took off down the escape road i couldnt turn in:)

It was good for the 3/4 of a lap while it lasted, it was about the only time all day where i wasnt just rolling around by myself spinning off thru the kitty litter:(

I like this shot

We had a great battle out there Snowie, ya got me by nearly a full second in the end. Well done !! :)

Next time though you may have to get used to the view in the picture above :(:):)

Nice to meet up with some of you too.

Anyone know where I can get some stock seats? I don't like the race style seats in the car at the moment. I'm getting old and need more comfort.

Cheers

Aaron

Got a bit of an issue with my fourth gear i therefor didnt' want to push the car too hard cos' i'll be a long way and costly to tow it back home but above all it was a Great experience.

I thought i know my car but i guess not! I gotta learn to control it better, so looking forward to next time.

Haha Aaron - I look forwards to the challenge.

Thats if I have some front wheels by then.

FYI - I definitely didnt run wide onto the grass. Here's the pictures to prove it! All I can think is that I was running VERY low on fuel - as I came over the top of Lukies I got a big fuel surge that cut the engine and caused me to lose all the electronics. So with my lack of skills I just locked her up!

It was an excellent day. I managed to do a 2.08.1. Gotta be stoked with that!!!!

All hail the slightly modded TX5. AKA. STI.ETA. Poor Aaron, being thrashed from the stand still to the first corner.

When I look at the times, I'm only 1 sec slower than Ant95GTR.

Very happy. Was good to see so many of us out there, aquring the WRX boys places.

    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
    • Yep, this bit another local owner. I caught it before putting the transmission back into the car, what I noticed was the pressure plate fingers weren't flat and even. It's more obvious with the pull style clutch because the throwout bearing ring was visibly not flat once everything is put together. Nismo should really update their instructions to call out this specific detail. I'm not even sure the clutch as-shipped orients everything properly.
