Hi All,

I see a few people advise the RDA954S is a direct fit for a S2 RS FOUR.

These look to be the DBA equivalent.

Please note as in my post here the 954S is 6mm oversize and a different thickness (~4mm thinner, meaning also a different minimum thickness). I'm not an engineer but I would assume that would mean something like 4mm more piston travel and I don't know if the piston will like it or not (I am guessing it would be ok but it's just a guess).

Fitting these rotors to my 2000 RS-FourV resulted in a lot of smoke and grinding; I could only drive the car about 2km. I've put some pics of the damage to the rotors below:

Some other users have had luck using these as a direct swap. I need to machine mine down and hopefully it will be OK.

I have some news for everyone.

SOOOO, as I do, I have been reading through FAST and checking out what parts are from where. So get this.

My car is built 97/08. Now, there was a model change in August 1998 and one thing they changed was the rear brakes (was checking to see if SK was right the rears were R31 pads)

So, my car, being a newer revision, has R34 N/A rear pads and Nissan Cima Y33 front pads.

So I did some investigation and found that..... cars pre-97/08 dont actually share the same brakes as me. According to FAST, the rear brake pads for the cars pre-mine are R33 N/A, R32 N/A and a heap of others, not R34 like mine and the front pads are the same until 98/08

Just wanted to remind people of this post. My car (10/97, very late model S1) has the same, R34 GT rear brakes. S1 owners be careful!

Having said that I am probably going to change to 32 gtr rears for ease of pad and rotor sourcing, but just thought I would mention.

Well I just finished my brake upgrade.

I have a 99' Series 2 RS FOUR Auto.

Brake Mast Cylinder:

- BM50 (Standard)

Front:

- R34 GTT Calipers

- Pads (HD Bendix)

- Rotors (RDA Slotted 7957S 310mm)

Rear:

- R33 GTS-T Calipers

- Pads (G-CT Bendix)

- Rotors (RDA Slotted 908S 297mm)

Stops on a dime and loving it!

I use all the factory brake lines. ONLY mods required were, had to mod the Banjo bolt for the front calipers and I had to trim the Dust shields on the rears.

I have just done my brake upgrade.

late '96 early '97 stagea rs4. Standard 16" wheels

Brakes used were off a '96 r33gtst. I bought new r33gtst discs and pads all round.

rear brakes.

2 pot sumitomos

caliper bolts were from the sumitomos and were the same as the stagea's

rear braided r33gtst hoses straight onto the caliper.

disc backing plate had to be cut to fit the bigger disc.

Wheel fitted and good clearance.

front brakes.

4 pot sumitomos

caliper mounting bolts are 12mm but the stagea fitment holes are 14mm ( as are the stagea caliper bolts ) They are also too short.

4 new longer 12mm bolts

A length of 14mm OD steel pipe with a 1mm wall thickness, cut to size to sleeve the 12mm bolts.

the standard wheel will foul on the caliper so I used 6mm spacers and that gave nice clearance.

The standard wheel studs will now only give about 5 1/2 turns whereas before there were 10. I am not completely happy with this so have got some longer studs and will replace them as soon as I get a couple of correct nuts to pull them on with. at the moment I have used a bit of threadlock ( hope I can undo them now!!) Going to try and do it like the link below as I don't want to disturb my new brake lines if I can help it!! Don't see why taking the caliper and disc off will help anyway using this method, unless the caliper covers the cutaway to remove the stud.

i think at the moment, i am going to buy a set of RDA 954S for the front and RDA 908S for the back, and cross my fingers!!!

there's so many conflicting stories and experiences on here, i'm not 100% sure what to do!!!

I called up my local parts shop - Nepean spares and they priced a pair of the RDA 954S (fronts) at $270. Is that a good price?

They said it wasn't a run of the mill part so it would have to be ordered in

what pads are you going to use when you get the rotors?

calipers and lines $300-500 (I had them lying around, have 2 other sets if anyone wants them)

much better stopping power, easy to source and cheap.

hey if anyone is still there, im looking for rotors to fit brembo calipers, what thickness are the GTR rotors? im needing 32mm to 36mm thick ones and anywhere from 330mm-360mm. my guess the GTR 328mm would still fit, but are they thick enough??

they will be fitting into the porsche cayenne turbo 6 piston calipers.

picked up the 2 front calipers incl pads for $1k, decent price imho.

but finding the right disks is a pain in the ass.

any help is appreciated

What size wheels and disk clearance will limit your choice. I looked into bigger brakes a while ago, and found the HSV VE commadore either 355 or 360mm are the same as skyline disks in thinkness, hat height. only problem they are 5x120 pcd, so would have to get them redrill to 5x114.3.

DBA make 2 peice replacements at approx $650 each. I think the holden ones (which are problaly made by DBA) are are $1800 each :)

I was thinking of using chrylser STR8 brembo's. Normally pretty cheap on US ebay for a pair

Since you will have to get custom made dog bones to fit the calipers, you could most things to fit.

TBS at Capalaba in Brisbane can supply a 8 piston custom made calipers (they come and made in south afraica, not china) and custom made 2 piece hat section disks 360mm, braided line all custom made to suit any car and wheel combo drive in drive out for approx $2600-2800. I think minimium wheel is most 19's, but some good 18's might work.

Any one have a bleeding process for the abs?

i put my 34 4pots on and let the fluid get too low and got some air in :D

i took the master out and bled it, and re-bled the whole thing but i've still got a soft pedal and seems like a lot of rear bias (could still be air in the fronts tho)

Japanese import spares have listed some Dixcel rotors, front and rear for $240 per set

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
