Dixcel have direct replacement rotors for our cars (either standard or slotted)...but there are no distributors in Australia. This is according to Dixcel in Japan when I emailed them and ask about who is the distributor in Australia

As previously mentioned in here that you can get DBA rotors and machine the OD to match and fit the standard rotors (unless you've upgraded to R33/R34 rotors and callipers or you own a M35)

I'm looking for a set of Dixcel's locally but it's hard to find them and importing them in is expensive (due to the weight for shipping).

Whilst people in the know have ensured me that machining the OD of the disc is perfectly safe...IMO I don't want to chance it

Japanese Import Spares in SA stock Dixcel rotors for Stageas, give them a call on 08 82660212 to see if in stock.

Well at least its a start on where you can get direct replacement brake discs...even if they are just the PD rotors. Did you ask them if they can get the SD rotors in?

You should be able to get a set of plain rotors slotted for around $60ish; I'm pretty sure that's what I was quoted a while ago.

This is likely to be a dumb question, but would the standard M35 front caliper fit on the rear (with the correct size rotors)? It occurred to me that the fronts would be a decent upgrade for the rears, if they fit.

Because of the piston volume; I'd be willing to bet the brake bias will be a disaster, and you'd basically have no rear brakes.:ph34r:

Also the front rotor is basically the same diameter as the rear, just a little thicker, so you're not really gaining any mechanical advantage.

OK, so would it be reasonable to leave the rears stock & put a big set on the front or would there be a bias issue with that setup as well?

I have upgraded the fronts to R32 GTR calipers with no downside to the overall braking performance.

I think most people have upgraded the front without touching the rear.

I run R33 GTR with stock M35 rears.......no problems with the setup at all....I found it quite balanced........but I do run good pad's front and back though.

these would be a straight bolt on with the purchase of rotors.

Upgrading can be a PITA.

To fit 33gtst fronts to my S1 we had to sleeve the carriers from 14mm to 12mm.

To fit the 2pot RS4 fronts to the 25G, which are singles, we have to drill out the carriers from 12mm to 14mm. And HF Batman the carriers are so hard it is impossible to drill on the vehicle. To get the axle of you need a MF big rattler. then take to a machine shop to be drilled out.

What started out as a simple job is now over the single Grand mark. But both cars will have much better stopping power.

When the time comes I will follow the same path & leave the rears alone, focussing on something nice for the front. Cheers for the clarification.

Now that the wheels are on, I shouldn't be having any trouble to fit brakes to my m35. I did the r33 gtst brakes on my c34 Stagea - already have the sleeves for the bolts, just can't remember what is involved with the brake lines? Is it the same for the m35?

I just used the standard brake lines on the M35.....just remember there is a restrictor in those callipers that you will have to remove........or cut down the bango bolt!

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
