Hey all,

If for your next vehicle you couldn't get a Japanese vehicle, what car would you buy? Would anyone prefer the bus to a non-jap car?

Personally, if I were to get a non-jap instead of my current skyline ($10k budget) I would be looking at another 1980's 6 cylinder rear wheel drive vehicle. Something like an E30 BMW 325is or an Alfa Romeo 75 Potenziata. I don't think either would be as good as the skyline though. And the Alfa Romeo would rust. But my Mum has an Alfa Romeo and I have a soft spot for them! Will definitely own one at some point in my life.

Will be interesting to see the responses, particularly those with a bit more cash than me!

Jap then Euro. I would have maybe settled for the Audi S4 in twin turbo 2.7l trim but a mate already has one so can't do that. That or an E46 M3 i guess.

Other than the GTR and NSX there aren't many Jap cars i'd really lust after. I know there are plenty of amazing Japanese cars, RX7, Supra, etc, they just dont do it for me.

I would probably never buy a holden or a ford, unless they bring out the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky here which could be a nice cheap and cheerful roadster - and possibly better than the current Miata (not the previous Miata though).

I came across this www site.

If I was in the market for a 'new car', had no family and lived a bachelors life and I was a tight arse I think you can't argue that the SV8 Commodore is pretty damn good value, especially with its LS2. :(

From a performance perspective

I've had a bad run with commodores in the past. Broke on me when they are pushed a little. :P

Is that list in a particular order?

If so, I would much rather a Series 8 RX7 or new Evo over a Typhoon.

Just my opinion :P

Cubes, SV8's still use the LS1. LS2's are HSV only atm. Maybe a change in the VE. In fact with this new emission laws coming in, I think they may have to use the LS2.

Its a bit unfortunate because the LS2 is far superior.

If i had a Skyline and i had to get something else...... I'd get (with unlimited budget) an RS6, or if i had 15k id get a VS Calais with a Super6.

04 Ferrari 360 Modena

04 Mercedes CL65 AMG

05 BMW M5

04 Porsche 911 Turbo

........wait a minute is there meant to be a budget? cos im just floating with fairies here.......oh well.......

Aston Martin Vanquish

Aston Martin Vantage

Maserati 3200GT

Lamborghini Giaudo (dont know how to spell it)

05 Ford GT40

Ferrari 355 Spider

etc :D

    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
    • OK, if it idles at 1000+ with the AAC, its not an idle airflow problem. The cold start valve just gives extra air when the engine is cold, but you have enough air without it to idle at 1000. I think you are back to a fuel problem, sorry. Can you see the fuel pressure staying constant or does it drop as the revs drop to a stall?
