I'm going to bring this one BACK FROM THE DEAD

I'm thinking of doing another set because my LED parkers have died.

I have found a few pairs of Honda Euro RHD projectors in the shed - if anone wants them PM me.

Thinking of doing something similar myself - might be needing those Euros for my r32. I want clear covers like sinnersta (and self diffusing reflector case), and want clear HIDs with red angels - or white/reddish HIDs to match red and black style of car. Stockies are crap - cannot see more than 10 metres in front of me and high beam adds 1 extra metre of vision. That's right they are that good. I crave more light.

Do you guys know of an easy simple method for doing this other than simply adding HIDs to the current projectors?

you're going to have to split them open and swap them.

if nothing else the OEM projectors and inside of the lights are probably filthy now and aren't operating optimally.

it looks like the coy doing after market plastic fronts is no longer doing them; you could get a perspex company to mould one from an R32 headlight if you're super keen.

Folks looking at buying a set of morimotos in a kit from here... http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=227

Need to find out what wiring harness is required for the R32 GTST type M projector headlights? Also the adapter plate recommendation if possible otherwise I will wait for the headlight to arrive and measure then.

I'm about to do this conversion with a set of Bosch Audi A4 Bi-Xenon projectors - They're the latest spec of the BMW E46 Projectors, with the metal rear end and D3S Bulbs.

I'll also to a dual Hi Beam mod at the same time, so I will be getting the high beam from the projectors as well as the original High Beam center lights. Of note this will be a similar setup to my wife's BMW X5. So I'm hoping for a massive improvement.

Will keep you all posted on how it turns out.

Ok, so finally got around to doing the my Bi-xenon install... Here are some pics of how I went about it. As mentioned above this is one of the lastest versions of the E46 projector, and is common to late model Audis. This is the projector:

As I purchased it from the US, the sheilds suit LHD - see below:

Fortunately this model of projector is relatively easy to modify to suit RHD, but you have to be handy with a die grinder and have a fair amount of patience.

To do the mod, firstly I removed a shield, traced it onto a thin sheet of alloy and cut out two copies of it with a die grinder.

If you look closely at the image above I have tapped two holes near the top - which enabled me to screw the new projector to this bracket (in the reverse orientation).

If you compare the modified projector with the stock one below, you will see that the projector is positioned forward of the bracket almost the exact same amount as stock, and as such it fits into the headlight, without any modification to the stock headlight surround.

The below image shows how I've screwed the projector to the new bracket:

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
