importing half cuts
Beer Baron replied to wagonshaw's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
well a half cut comes from a whole car. to get a half cut you have to buy a whole car, then cut it in half. it's not like they can go to auctions and say: "I like that car, can I just take the front half and give you half the asking price..." add to that the cost of cutting the thing up, then shipping it... etc etc. -
c'mon mate half of that post is complete rubbish. you say if you don't want camber buy toe rods or camber rods? excuse me? what is a toe rod going to do (bearing mind pretty much every car on the planet has toe adjustment from factory, AND this is not his problem)? and how does a 'camber rod' not adjust camber? what's the point of it then? as for camber heads for your coils, never heard that one either but I assume you mean an adjustable upper mount for the coil-over. well that's about as usefull as a fart in the bath. you cannot adjust camber that way in any skyline. hanyou. my advice is don't take any of this advice from decim8. your problem is simple. your wheels are 1 inch wider than stock, and have 10mm less offset (so they are 10mm further out, plus the .5 inch). add to that the 255 tyres and the low ride high and you get interference. you need to either: raise the car by 10mm or so use narrower tyres (either 245 or 235 will be fine on your 9inch rim) add some camber at the front (you need adjustable, or shorter upper control arms for this) have the guards flared, or lipped or rolled (very risky at the front as GTRs have alloy guards which are very soft) I would suggest you raise the car by 10mm. then down the track when your tyres wear out, replace them with 235s or 245s then you may be able to lower it back down if that's what you want.

while you're at it, have you got the figures for sards?
-
mate there is no RB26DETT fitted with an auto box. lol. so no, it's not 15 degrees. never has been, never will be. It's 20 degrees base. for all GTRs.
-
yeah, i've seen a few rippers. we even get them at state champs. more so cause the poor mug who got punted off the track generally is paying to fix his own car. nothing like a few grand repair bill to get someone to fire up. also the various porsche categories seem to be fond of some big arguments and the occaisional fisty cuffs. dunno why.
-
no way. a second hand RB20 costs like $1000 bucks. a second hand RB26 is more like $4 or $5 thousand. rebuilding them both is the same cost. so yes an RB20 may be cheaper to buy another one, but a 26 is not. and a rebuilt motor offers far more potential than another second hand one.
-
yeah exactly. the next historic race we are entering with the alfa costs $400 to enter.... I would love to do this. and would probably even shell out $500 or even $1000 to enter, but $5000 is taking the piss.
-
just save the waiting time and wrap the $100 note around your fuel line instead. it will have the same effects. that is, you will be $100 poorer, your car will look silly, and it will still run the same as before.

Greatest F1 Driver Of All Time?
Beer Baron replied to Kozeyekan's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
well i've been saying alonso was a tool before he was winning wdc's, while he was winning wdc's and he's even more of a tool now that he's loosing his wdc to his rookie team mate. I'm glad roy agrees with me that schuey is the greatest. he also has the distinction of driving successfully through many different types of F1 car. with TC, without it. with auto gear shift, without it. with turbos, with V8s, with V10s with slicks, without slicks with 1 lap quali, with free for all quali. in wet, in dry, in controversy. through it all he consistently rose to the top of the ladder. greatest of all time. no doubt about it. and he has the biggest jaw of them all. -
yes it is a repost.
-
cant you use a pal to NTSC converter like people do with soarer in built TVs?
-
yes, but the point is factory base timing for a GTR is 20.
-
are you going to replace bearings too while your in there? I hope so! I'll be interested to see how it comes out, and what the total cost is.

Drift Shop C's Design Short Shifter
Beer Baron replied to THIRTY33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
shift feel is a very important part of the car. I think the biggest things that you enjoy when getting into a car for the first time. suspension feel steering feel (inc steering wheel) shift feel (clutc, shifter, even gear knob) so if it were me, I'd get the genuine C's. one because I try to support companies that design their own products, not companies that rip off those designs. and secondly because I know the C's kit is very good and feels very nice. -
yeah I'm talking purely about forum here. SAU is the forum. SAU NSW is the NSW club. I'm an admin of the forum, but hold no office, or power in the club. currently we are posting on the fourm. it's run by admin. but dr-doof is right i got a bit carried away. slow afternoon and my arthritis is playing up. but it is the task of mods and admins to protect the forum owner from any possible claims. which is why sometimes we may seem a bit draconian, but actually we are just protecting our greatest asset (Prank) who started the forum and runs it for us out of his own time and money.
-
certainly. and BD4s are allowed to call it libellous and try punish us in a court of law. and then I'll remind you there is limits to freedom of speech, and that what you say (well type) on this forum has to be within it's rules (and the rule of law in our country). and in this case I'm the judge, jury and executioner. this forum is not australia. or america. or dr-doofs utopia. it's SAU and it's a dictatorship and the admins are it's dictators. all that aside I just thought it was a useless post. why you'd want to bad mouth a business that has closed down is beyond me. particularly as you never had any work done there. quotes are one thing, you claimed they overcharge which is pretty hard to gauge unless you've had work done, and been charged for it. which you haven't. they were definately an asset to our scene and prices being high or low is pretty subjective. I can change turbos for $50 by removing the old one with a sledge hammer and installing the new one with cable ties. or someone else can do it properly for $500. if you got the two quotes you might think my 'turbo replacement' quote sounded reasonable. afterwards you'd wish you went and spent $500 doing it with the other guy. FTR I've never had any work done at BD4s ever and I've only dealt with them once, but it was a good experience. so I can't comment on their price vs quality. but I have seen the work they do and it was good. and the service they gave me was also very good.

Help Needed! - Clutch Or Gearbox Issue?
Beer Baron replied to Jenius's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yeah, leaking fluid. and poor clutch operation. as fatgts-r mentioned the pedal bracket is also not so hot and can bend and/or break. Nismo make an upgraded one for R32s with more welds etc. cheap at about $80 or so. -
tomei make new cam cap bolts (actually I think they are studs).

Greatest F1 Driver Of All Time?
Beer Baron replied to Kozeyekan's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
yeah my lack of jaw has definately been holding me back all these years. I'm thinking about a chin implant. tough choice, more powerfull car, or bigger jawline? hmmm. -
nah, they are fitted at compliance. and some compliance shops just use a 'one sticker fits all' mentality. cars like silvias etc do have 15degree BTDC base timing, but I can promise you hand on heart RB26DETT run 20 degrees. if someone has believe the sticker and set your car with 15 degree base it will run a shitload better when you crank it back to 20.

Full Mount Panorama Track Day - Opportunity Is Finally Here
Beer Baron replied to Kero's topic in Events Archive
don't think one will cover it mate. -
it should be 20. the sticker is most likely wrong. It would have been fitted at compliance. knuckle heads.
