The Build Of The Beast
Piggaz replied to Hadouken's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Need more wiggins clamps! -
I suppose it depends if YOU want more front end grip. I've had it done and it does allow you to jump on the loud pedal earlier in a corner.
-
Now just add an aftermarket front diff and piss off that open junk!

Piglet's Rebuild Of His Busted Tomei 2.8

I know that, but it looked like they used a 33 snorkle. Grab one and see if it fits, even if it doesn't, it can't be that hard to make work. -

Oh well. It'll be done when it's done. -

Tried to find a photo... failed. I'll find it... somewhere but it has been done. Not sure if they modified the snorkle but I don't remember it looking "not factory". -

It's been done. JEM did it. -
Why would you leave the factory throw crank in there when for a little bit more you could have a stroker? You're paying for machining, assembly, studs, gaskets, pumps and consumables anyway. Baffles me why guys go to all that effort and leave it standard capacity.
-
If you're gonna rebuild... build a stroker! It's so little.. for so much more! If staying 2.6, put another stock engine into it....

Dummy fit of factory airbox snorkel. Almost looks stock, right? I'll grab a new snorkel so it's not all scratched and yuck. Airbox will be coated black too. -
+ 1 on this!

It is what it is, Pete. Not using rubber around there, that's bloody lunacy! I'd much prefer not have a rubber line fail and a gate not open when hard up it. Braided -3 lines with heat shield. -

Airbox almost completed. A much larger filter is going in. A K&N RF-1041 which measures 6 inch flange, 7.5 inch base, 5 inch top and 7.5 inches long. Going through the airbox is a spun up 6 inch to 4 inch funnel. The factory airbox snorkel will be also used then off to get coated black! With any luck, gate lines tomorrow. -
Your goals are a little left to the "norm". Just need to keep an eye on speed.
-
Which is rediculous!

Photo of the inside of the 4 inch mid muffler. No homo step downs here!
-
What's that for?
-
http://www.smb.net.au/ Pete, ring these guys and ask for Grant. Intune and I (I haven't started mine yet) are running 4 inch systems with 2 mufflers on them. The mid muffler was 14 long x 8 wide x 5 tall and the rear is 16 long x 10 wide x 7 tall with an offset in the rear. VERY quiet, no drone at all... on the freeway you hardly hear it. Highly recommended, would use again. Roughly $720 for the pair. They can make whatever length you want also. The guy that did my car ran these same mufflers but shorter versions on a 3.5 system that was behind a Barra 4.0 in a R32 GTST. He is ripping the mid muffler out as it's TOO quiet.

A 4 port gives better control over a wider spread of pressure. You can get away with less spring in the gate incase you want to turn it down (wet track day etc). Scott wanted 2 valves and considering I didn't have a setup yet, that's what went on. One valve per gate. Going off "Intune's" car, a combo of 1 bar springs gave a gate pressure of 19 psi or so (going off the tial spring sheet). I've put 0.9 bar springs in. See how we go. -

Finally, something worth updating about! Gearbox is back in! Fabrication of PS res is mostly done. The 2 x 4 port MAC valves are mounted. Airbox, gate lines will hopefully be tomorrow. Transfer case to front diff shaft uni joints are rooooooooooted. Thats away getting sorted ATM. -
Run a Nitto or Tomei? Just keep off the limiter (although I know you love it). It's not that hard lol.
-
They're also very small. 570 cc vs 440 cc of a factory RB26. Waste of time! How much power are you after?
-
Both nuggets Both restrictive Buy a couple quality universal mufflers and get a cat back custom made. Will sit better, be quieter and make more power. If you don't care about power then the Kakimoto is great. My advice, don't bother. They're a waste of money.

Bit of a copy paste job from the OS88 vs Holinger thread but I'll plonk it here also... For those interested in an OS88, here is the oiling issue that needs to be rectified before you put it in the car. The little slot where the light is coming through is the breather for the box. There is no cover for it and the gear acts like a paddle wheel and pumps oil up the hole and through the hose. So a cover will be made to stop this. The oil breather fitting also needs to be drilled and tapped. My fitting popped out once it got in the car. OS must use clag glue to secure the fitting... it doesn't last. I am also changing the sensor that lives in the bell housing. i should have the box back by the end of the week ?
