  1. I'm not too keen on stainless and heat, they expand a lot more than high tensile, this allows the gasket/sealant to walk or loosen. but saying that you can get s/s that doesn't expand as much, but its not as common. I'd go high tensile bolts and crush nuts or split nuts
  2. It sounds like an ignition cut, not sure a faulty afm would stop the motor but check it anyway, so so what DVS32R said. Also if you have a turbo timer check it. Does it still have fuel to the cylinders when this happens? Could be ECU and injectors?
  3. 5 vs 4 was for power spread. The N/A makes less power and needs the extra gear to get the power and torque optimised for it. The turbo has more and a much broader power and torque curve all round so can stay in the sweet spot much easier. And that is generally always the reason for extra gears no matter what the vehicle - and also the marketing advantage.
  4. I know its normal for Norway, but I can't get over those -20' temps........I get a -4' frosty morning in winter and swear and curse and vow to move north to a warmer climate. Well I guess you don't have to worry about +40' days at least. And apologies for OT. PS as DVS said your car looks tough
  5. Pics? and whats the parking like......steep driveway? low cars? security? open/locked gates? undercover? etc etc
  6. Shit sorry Anthony, I'm bloody hopeless with names and faces.....never been a people person. Many an embarassing moment, this is another one. I still have all that R33 stuff you gave me, do you want it back???? I was always going to take it to Canberra and give it away, but never ever did.
  7. Maybe heat has distorted it, long shot. Try checking it for true. A lathe would be handy otherwise plate glass and steel rule.
  8. I wouldn't [others may disagree], when I had a similar issue with my HKS WG I used a new diaphragm and that worked. But unless your diaphragm is ripped I cannot see how the WG can leak. The valve should be seated and stop all leaks. It only opens when it gets negative pressure.
  9. Sounds like your not getting enough tension. Check your spring lengths, are they the same length?
  10. Any pics yet Andrew??? interested to see how they came up.
  11. Hu uh a guessing game [claps hands] a valve guide sliding up and down in the head sorry for you though, its going to cost $$$ whatever it is..........and it will frustrate the hell out of you until you find it. BTW I really don't know, without sound and being there its a guessing game.
  12. personal choice, its up to you really. I'd probably solder, they don't fall apart.
  13. TBH I have no idea, I never looked.....but knock went from +130 to under 10 so its working fine and I'm happy.
  14. If your in town, or don't drive west of the Great Divide E85 could be the answer.........unfortunately not for me, I don't know of any servo selling it. It'd take me half a day's driving just to get to one. Then if you go on a drive across this big baked land you will conk out somewhere the other side of Hayseed, maybe Killer is in that category???
  15. Questions questions.......... 35's I have no experience, cannot answer as per first post Blitz FMIC an LM [i think they call them]. I did a write up some time ago on my WMI install: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/306109-my-wmi-install/page__hl__wmi+install
  16. I've got the same turbo, and I have a CAI shield plus I've used a hole saw and put a couple of holes through the tinware to increase airflow from outside the engine bay. Doesn't make any difference, it still pings. Any time I feed it up a hill in third it pings. My solution was WMI, it doesn't ping anymore, all is happy fun times now!!!! I'm not sure why, but sometimes the 3076 will ping. Sure you can make 300+rwkw, but it rattles like a train. I've cut timing out of mine, added fuel, and had it down to 270rwkw and it reduced the ping under power, but it still did it. I drove around for 12 months like this making sure I never used the power I had [even did some big trips]. I had it strapped to the dyno at three different tuners and none could stop it. I've got all the nismo pump/filter/blitz FMIC/tomei cams/HKS cast manifold extrude honed etc etc etc and it still pinged. Knock levels up to 130 if I wanted 'em and any time. My solution was a SP stage 3 WMI kit.......knock levels below 10 now. Plus I've now got more power and better fuel economy to boot. And I use f'k all water meth, lucky to use 100cc in 500km [highway miles]. GL with yours, but if all else fails WMI is your friend.
  17. your final setup would depend on whether you are making a road or track unit, you can see this in the answers already. I'm also not so certain that you need Neo heads, plenty of VCT 25's that rev it up these days, I think the prep is the answer, after that it starts to level out [unless you are building a dedicated all out racer, then the need for VCT is a moot point] Has anyone explored using a 370Z motor in an RB based skyline, might make a good base???
  18. searchsearchsearchsearch been done to death also ask stao he's on here and sells 'em
  19. One of the shop guys on here reckons he has a pile of low km stuffed KKR's at the back door of the workshop all ready for the recycle bin only they wouldn't take 'em cos the metal was so poor!!!!
  20. What comp are they and are they new?
  21. One thing you could do is try taking off your aircleaner and seeing what effect that has on the surge. You don't say what aircleaner you setup you have, but could then use this an indicator to see if the problem can be solved on the intake side or not. You have to leave your AFM in place. Dialling it higher or lower is not the ideal solution, you want to eliminate it altogether really don't you.
  22. bingo.....didn't look at the head when you did your build!!!!
  23. And you walk around at a club meet somewhere and you can tell the two factions apart. One has dirt under the nails, skun knuckles, and a t shirt that has an oil smudge on it somewhere [i wear dark T's, it doesn't show as much], the others are pretty boys!!!
  24. He's got way more braggin' rights and street cred!!!! You've still got your $$$$$.......
  25. Your asking us if we think us spending $10K++++ on our car is worth it............nobody wants to say sh*t I just totally wasted 10 big ones - so of cos' it was worth it. But the honest answer is its not just the getting there, its the journey, the things you learn, the pleasure you get, the mulling over idea's and setups with other Skyline fanatics, the satisfaction of building something___________and ohh yeah the f*cking power!!!! There's always Toyota Yaris's/Nissan Micra's/Kia anythings etc etc etc
