  1. only one thing to keep in mind; if you might be getting serious in the future and want a HANS device, you might want to consider the HANS posts when you buy the helmet....they can be expensive or impossible to add later. personally I use a cheapy motorcycle helmet, whatever fits comfortably. Also get a decent helmet bag and use it, scruitineers will knock back helmets with surface damage, even if it was only a scratch while rolling around in the boot. BTW that article is very interesting and worth the read....it's not fully relevant to race car use but had interesting conclusions
  2. I used paving/concrete paint from bunnings, and it is starting to wear after only 12 months of weekend use. So depending on price of the epoxy stuff I would go that instead. It still looks good overall and seals oil/water properly but I don't think its going to last as long as I'd like. Most workshops that use paint redo it every year. Also it's important to acid etch the floor first or it will flake off early.
  3. if you aren't going to relocate the filter pick up a stagea oil filter block, it has a bit of an angle on it that makes it easier to get the filter on and off. if you are just fitting up a relocator it doesn't matter, just grab a 20 or 30 one.

  5. Mine is a strap bolted to the end of the chassis rail where the reo bolts on....has always worked OK. It comes out through a small slit in the front bar. I prefer the strap to a solid hook going forward for both my car's sake and whatever I am tapping on. But as warps said that setup wasn't sufficient for mark's rally car....it got about halfway back out of the gully when the strap snapped....4 more rolls on top of the original 7. But I guess you are never going to reuse a shell after the first few rolls anyway
  6. well that sucks. I reckon it would take a decent hit to bend that. My guess is it had something heavy on it or dropped during transit. Unless you can see a crack on the diff housing I would not worry about any other damage other than the easily replaced halfshaft. Just count the splines on the half shaft, they do vary. Or maybe award can send you one as a goodwill gesture.....

  9. Also, the reason they are jammed tight is always because they have started to come off crooked and then jammed. Have a look at which way it is not straight and bash that side back straight, then try again.

  11. BTW there are probably cheaper ways to get a g sensor, most logging systems/dashes have them already integrated. If you use the standard one you will need to connect to it and calibrate it. Also, RWD or not, you probably want both lateral and longitudinal sensors
  12. well I know rolling the car 7 times into a gully will do it. the indicator is not connected to the sensor in any way (well except the glue that holds it on). It just breaks and goes red when it has a large impact because it is likely the g sensor will also have been damaged.
  13. AFAIK it doesn't actually have to be stock; it just has to meet the rules for the club that issues the plate. Many clubs do require standard cars though eg the Z club. I believe the classic skyline club might have club/historic rego, give them a try first

  17. umm yeah I should be clear....it is their tyre shop and their call on what they think is safe Don't just trust some nobody on the internet. You could also get them to contact Federal's office, and in particular Mick Hart from Canberra...he knows the story and has had one of their techs look into this previously
  18. The shop I had fitting it had been doing tyres for 50 years and had never come across the issue (some tyres need more pressure, but they had not seen one they could not fit with enough pressure), and frankly if it hadn't happened to me I'd probably call bullshit
  19. Yeah, I've swapped a few and just written the old klm and new dash's starting klm on the rear of the dash
  20. Yeah I was one of the people who couldn't get 595RS on R34 rims, they tried over 120psi to pop it on. There was at least one other person with the same problem. On the other hand I do now have 595SS on those same R34 GTR rims....so get them to try a little more pressure The underlying issue is basically that both Nissan and Federal push the limits of "compatibility" in the angle of their rim edge and bead respectively because both were trying to get top performance....the issue shows when you try and put a very aggressive tyre on a very aggressive rim.
  21. sorry to say, any courier company is expert at denying responsibility for broken goods....they do it all day every day. I can't see you getting far arguing with them, why would they change their position
  22. I recently asked a similar question and just ended up going for a mitre saw with an ally blade because it is relatively cheap and versatile. Seems fine for light/home use
  23. It was a good cruise yesterday, thanks to Theo and Craig and everyone else involved for making it happen; it was a great turnout. I also enjoyed meeting a good bunch of people at lunch, I didn't know anyone on the table when we started but everyone was great.
