Yeah Matt , end of the day it's what you want from your car. It's all fun but an expensive exercise [emoji51]
Here is the latest Dyno , bit hard to compare because you need same scaling setup on the printout to compare BUT it drives better.
As you can see it is hitting 24 psi and dropped off a little mid range but will be tuned again after some Klms have been clocked and a bit more boost added

Your R34 has all bases covered, more than enough top end power and bulk torque everywhere. I love it.

Yes it most certainly is expensive. My OCD kicks in and I want everything to look as good as it performs which means, billet bespoke covers, fancy fasteners, new or near new this and that and before long I've doubled the cost of the original modification.

Nice result! No doubt there is more to come.

Hey guys. Im trying to find info on r33 s1 head on rb30 bottom end regarding vct. Im looking to see if someone has a graph to compare vct on vs vct off on there dyno graph. I have recently changed from the r32 s0 rb25 head to the r33 s1 vct head and wanting a graph to see if its worth me changing exhaust housing etc. Thank you.

Mine is a series 1 RB25DET head on an RB30 bottom end, NVCS on - see above. No dyno runs with it switched off... but I wouldn't ditch it unless I was aiming for big RPM and all top end power with a big turbo (1200+hp territory).

When you had it on the dyno did you guys mess around with different times of when it came on amd turned off etc to get the mid range up etc?

Nice. From the info iv been told its around the 500-600rpm better which is what im aiming for over the last setup and with fixing the wastegate issue im hoping to be around the 40-50kw mark better in mid range.

You want it on asap to create more torque, and off when you reach peak torque.

There's no "playing around" with it, as it's not adjustable. Just do 2x runs and find where the torque intersects and you'll know fast enough where to switch off VCT.

Didn't go for the fancy gear, getting the car going hard is expensive enough LOL , but I love a nice looking motor, your cars engine bay looks amazing , it's done right and I would love to have it, a little jealous LOL

Had the first chance for a bit of a run this morning , the car drives better than the Dyno indicates  , it is better from the moment you press the peddle from what it was. Looking at the 2 dynos Graphs the old tune looks better under 3850rpm but I can assure it doesn't drive better. Should be interesting to see how it goes with a little more boost when they do the touch up tune , I don't expect much, if any improvement under 3000 but it is already coming on at 3000 ish pretty hard and impressive up from there. Good streetable ride and a shatload of fun.

I drove this peach a couple weeks ago while up holidaying in Pete's home town.

Pete has mentioned that the old and new graphs don't show much difference. Throw the sheet in the bin is all I can say. It was stonking before this round but its halarious now. 

Doing the 120 km belt through "The Lakes Way" which is Pete's little playground was interesting. There is not a corner in the whole joint that you need 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. There was a sign posted corner that was 35 kph that I did in 4th gear. just as I straightened the wheel it was turning tyres. You honestly couldn't fall off song in this thing if you tried. A choice of 3 gears in every corner. Use odd gears or even gears.

Anything from 3000 RPM and its ON. Not just 'coming on"... full noise, MFD blinking red shit. Being in such a tall gear all the time you need to recalibrate. 3000 RPM in 4th and feed it on, you think you're ready to change gear, look down and you're at 5500 RPM. In 6th, it has 24 psi by 2700 RPM. It’s a joke. As a street GTR, it would be bloody hard to beat this thing. Can turn tyres in the first 4 gears without much effort at all. Tyres are not motorway spec junk either. 275 RS4's with a Quaife front diff and the transfer case mod done.

If you're not happy with it Pete, time to sell it because it does its thing so bloody well!

You could quite easily get away with a 9180 on it and still be sweet. I know we have both spoken about it a zillion times, it aint for you. 

It does need brakes though. The thing doesn't stop AT ALL! Perhaps a set of decent pads (Endless CC-RG's) would go a long way here. 

The torque steer might need to be addressed too. It's quite scary.

Pete, congratulations mate, what a beast! You don't need the fancy gear when you have bulk power and torque on tap from 3000rpm! It's my turn to be a little jealous :50_open_mouth:

Well , had the tyres refilled with Nos for free at Jax :) they averaged 30psi , so I cannot say what pressure was in what tyre . the car was in the shop for 4 months and it was a bit slack at checking the pressure when I got it back , so all pumped to 38psi, gave it a run and it goes straight , torque steer eliminated, takes a bit of the excitement out of it , LOL

Going in on Monday the 17th for final tune.

Going to run 22psi on pump 98.

Will add dyno diggers on Monday night.

Just rolled out 467rwhp with 17psi 11deg of timing @6300rpm.

Had trigger problems from factory cas.

Ordered a new trigger kit from NZ Wiring and will be going back on dyno on Friday. 

Shitloads left in it.

Finally had my r33 on rollers again. 2 years ago dynoed 440 hp @ 1.6 bar of boost (328kw @ 23psi) with what turned out to be a significant boost leak (vacuum nipple on/under throttle body wasnt blocked).

 

Anyway now with the boost leak sorted (and new bypass etc) I hit 553 hp and 725nm at 1.55 bar (412 kW @22.5 psi)! Over 100 more hp with less boost! Wohoo

 

4 years ago when I started designing my setup my goal was a responsive 500-550hp so Im super happy default_smile.png&key=f90b0234b42e52fa3ae1435b0b09055f5661a708bafba83253fd73a7a57a4868 hits full boost somewhere around 3500 rpm from what i can tell while driving.

Im sure Im forgetting alot. Was running into some issues with the ebc not reacting very well to duty changes (0 duty cycle gave 1 bar and 100 got us 1.05 bar). Had to install a restrictor before ebc solenoid and even with that now running 99 duty cycle. Well, it works and I dont think any more boost wouldve helped. And with stock pistons/rods it better to be on the safe side. Had it back on the dyno on Monday to check the tune as someone at a repair shop had f**ked around with it without permission. 

Played with the e boost controller a bit and rolled out 628rwhp with wheel spin. 

Can't complain about that on pump98 and just over 1.5 bar boost.

490hp @ 18psi  (running gate pressure so 16psi threw most of the rev range untill 6kish)

Dynoed on a mainline Hub Dyno  

Didnt bother printing a graph but have a shot of the dyno screen, Very linear power band as we wanted to go soft on the midrange to give the rods some life.. more then happy with the power for now considering the 3L bottomend only cost me $400. After powercruise we will turn it up at the track to try and push for a mid/high 10

time for an update,

changed those 2200's to Xspurt 1550's which made a world of difference. do not use those 2200's...

finally had the car back on the dyno and got some boost and ethanol into it. video of ethanol run here, and dyno plot below.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
