I work as a network tech for 5 primary schools. Its piss easy work because nobody at the schools knows anything about computers, so i do what i want and charge em $50 an hour for my services :P I took out a loan for my R32 though. I'm too impatient to save, i want it now!!

You should save up some money, think of a good business to invest. Just envy the skyline drivers for a few more years and I think you could pay off your skyline in no time. Have you been to the fruit market. People are driving MERC AMG not cheap staff and holden GTO and 350Z are just a few I've seen.

Anyway you need to make good money to support your hobby. I think buying the car is only half the journey, mantaining and running costs are the other half.

Jaxes maybe you could speak to GESTER and let him get you a better job. NOT all IT jobs are well paid. HELPDESK 25K - 35K , IT NET ADMIN could be 40K+. JUST GET YOUR CCNA and a bit of routers experience. that could increase your pay a little bit. OR do onsite tech on the side and CLAIM TAX on PETROL.

my 50 cents worth

IBM paid for my 34 :P

1st year out of uni - IT Server Specialist.

Saved most of it and took a small loan for the rest from my parents.

I think alot of the advice in previous posts is excellent though. I admit it would have been much smarter for me to wait a few years and get a house first but I'm impatient and hopefully have quite a few payrises heading my way soonish.

It is very disturbing the ridiculous variations in the wages in the IT industry. But if you have decent credentials I think you can make some seriously decent money.

Oh and also the most important thing is to budget. I sat down and worked out all my expenses for each month then factor in some decent savings and the rest is what I can afford to spend each month.

I do ok financially... if I was smart I would have saved when I was younger but I'm not over the hill yet :(

I plan on budgeting around $30k loan for my R32 GTR, which I figure to be a reasonable purchase.

I also plan saving for a house as I pay that off. The R32 I plan on keeping for awhile so I don't mind spending a bit of money grooming it up and doing mods on it.

I plan on getting into real estate investment and once I get a few properties behind me, I plan on refinancing and just paying for a new car outright.

Yeh im another IT fool. Graphic Designer. I paid for my car fair and square, i dont care if P platers like myself have good cars, but if they brag about it or think there better than anyone else when they DIDNT buy it themselves.. that really shits me.

Dude, you've either got it or ya don't. It's quite simple. I come from a disadvantaged background, my ol man died whan i was 8 and i lived on tha streets on an off for a coupla years. f**k i even went to jail! I had to sell my R33 GTR to help pay for my lawyers bill... at a loss of course but now i'm back lookin for another one ;)

All i can say is if your a good guy and your smart about it, it will all work out for ya. And just remember that in the end we all gonna go kick tha bucket don't matter what u do or how much doe or toys you got, we all gonna eat shit & die.

But having said thatlife is definately more enjoyable when u got ca$h to buy urself & ur girl lots of stuff!

One more thing, watch out for them bitche! I did jail over one an they ain't worth it!

Just wondering how you guys can afford such great cars and pump so much dosh into mods?

I work full-time and make OK money... but I still can't even afford a base model non-turbo Skyline.

My dream is to own a Skyline.. currently I'm driving a 1989 "White Lightning" Celica (I've heard that only 150 were ever brought into Australia). It cost me $8000 and that was a struggle!

How do you do it?! Are you all in debt or do you have rich dads? ;)

Cheers.

DINK.

Double income no kids. Shack up with an awesome bird with a FT job and ur set.

I work for a Telco as a analist. (Don't ask me what that means) I feel pretty lucky coz I started just as a entry level call centre/customer service guy and after 18 months I got a promotion and doubled my wage. Pretty good for a a guy who didn't completed his HSC.

Another good tip (when you get the car) is do as much of the service on your car as u can. You'll get all the help/advice you need on this forum.

ROFL! it looks very suss when you call your self an analist. it sounds like you are doing something with ring-holes. FTR it's 'analyst'. 1st rule of business if make sure you can spell your own job title! :) lol

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
