Hay guys.. After waiting around 7-8 weeks after i payed my turbo from Sliding Performance arrived.

So that day installed it modded the lines (redrill bigger to 6mm as says) everthing else bolt on style, primed the turbo done everything properly (have done many many times)

drove car for few klms before full throttling it only on 6psi, all was good 100klms later turned boost to 12 psi was pulling like a jet and sounding like 1 real nice, half hour after this started blowing smoke at idle ? then as you take of was clearing out !

5 minutes after this it was just belowing, within the next 5 minutes looked like surrounding areas were on fire and there was literally sludge of oil out exhaust, had to put 3 litres of oil in to as light came on

DOES anyone think this could be faulty seal/bearing from factory ?

Anyone else had bad experiences with this guy ?

i contacted them strate away got car taken home on car trailer !

WHAT EVERYONE THINK ???????????

Id send Slide a PM...

He is a Indy this weekend...

Dont expect a reply till tomorrow...

Im not stick up for him in any way as i dont personally know him. But i do know he has sold many turbos with good results. I would not however jump to the forums as its damaging for his business and you have not given him a chance to fix the problem yet.

I can expect a bagging or flaming if he does nothing, but you have not given him a chance yet...

Tell us more,

By the sounds its white - oil smoke.

Does the car missfire, still make boost, run like crap?

Can you see any ovbious leaks around the turbo/manifold area or is there any unusal sounds coming from the turbo?

Maybe try pulling out a spark plug, to see if any cylinders have oil in them...

Yeah talk to slide, this would be the first of around 500 turbo's that has gone wrong (if it even has)

My one has been going strong for over 8000kms now.

Also Aaron was awesome to deal with, I had my turbo in 3 days...but that was before everyone jumped on the bandwagon and took the whole supply in the country

slide is a awesome guy to deal with. i havnt bought hiflow turbos as of yet but will be in the near future for my '26. very helpful and im pretty sure he supplies warranty on it mate. i dont think you'll have a problem sorting it out as soon as he replies. he usually replies very quickly.

ive also delt with slide and his service is quality my turbo took around 2 weeks to get to me only because there was a big shortage in cartridges and wheels! my turbo has done about 1000kms now and it runs like a dream! couldnt recommend him any higher his work is great.

Just send him a pm and wait for him to reply he will surely work something out for you.

wasnt bagging him was justing asking what you guys thught and if anyone had similiar problems

yes its blue/white smoke oil ! lots of it,still feels like its pulling but has harsh npoise coming from the turbo

i forgot about indycar hence the no reply, hopefully will get sorted out

got a turbo from gcg or whomever they are and they just voided buy saying i overboosted it how do you prove otherwise, so was also worried about the warranty factor

cheers

Thats pretty bad luck having 2 turbo's let go in a row.. Both the reputable GCG and Slide.

Going back a little I remember you also had similiar issues with a T28 dynamic turbo chargers (MTQ) turbo that let go after it was installed, they too apparently said it was overboosted.

What happened with the GCG turbo? Same thing, just started smoking?

How did the spool feel compared to te GCG turbo?

Hi Beej

It sounds like there wasnt enough oil being fed through the turbo and there has been bearing starvation.

This is very important to have as the turbo runs on a constant layer of cylindrically fed oil flow to keep the shaft frictionless.

All turbo's are balanced and speed tested on a Heinz VSR Balancer at low speed high load with constant oil flow to test for assembly errors.

I always stress that it is only around $20 to have the oil modifications done professionally and have never had a failure.

Please send the turbo with all banjo bolts and oil feedline back to me so that it can be investigated so i can find out the reason for its failure for sure.

Please send me your bank details and i will cover the delivery costs.

 Aaron

maybe blocked turbo oil return??

Thats possible i guess...

But its gonna be more likely to be an oil supply issue (lack of oil) than anything else...

Good stuff Arron... Whats a champ even pays for postage...

soory its was a mtq turbo and it wasnt this engine was 2 years ago a t28 for my 180 and a garage fitted

i have fitted many turbos before many i know engines very well, mechanic without certificate used to work at ultratune

cheers slide ( aaron ) wasnt saying it was your fault just asking if it could of been a dodgy seal.bearing i dnt know the workings of inside of a turbo

and as for the $20 fitting im not a cheap skate the letter you sent said to drill them out so i did otherwise i would of bought them

i know it was not an installation problem as i have had the turbo of many times on this car and me an a qualified mechanic at his workshop fitted this 1

cheers

:( Beej

These are ball-bearing turbos?

Don't they need less oil,why did you drill the holes larger on the turbo's?

Am I reading this right? BB's need restrictors on the inlet :O

These are journal bearing highflows not ball bearing...

I do not do ball bearing highflows for the simple fact that much larger Garrett items can be sold for less. :(

have you checked to see if there is a oil restrictor in the oil feed?

If you pump too much oil in, it will blow the seals and pump oil into the compressor housing and the exhaust housing. Sounds like that to me.

Garrett have a built in I think 1.5mm restrictor in the housing to prevent over oiling. So its easy to install - Jast whack on your braided oil lines without worrying about a restrictor because its built into the housing.

You say they redrilled the oil lines to 6mm? Thats way too much oil for any turbo.. I'm pretty sure anyway.... Maybe I am wrong but I would definately check. And this is definatly not covered under warranty. Who ever fitted the turbos should know this.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
