I had an idea after a mate carried his steering wheel into work today!!

This wont apply for everyone as I know some cant remove there airbag steering wheels due insurance etc but he has one of those detachable boss kits. There only $90 or something and would really stop a thief in most instances I believe! Never though of it before but its pretty hard to drive a car without a steering wheel and with the amount of theft going on lately I'm just trying to lend idea and help out fellow drivers!

In the end its a cheap and effective way of guaranteeing your cars safety!

lol.. i've thought about that.. BUT.. there are certain downfalls to the d1 style boss kit.

those being:

1. Say your taking your car out that night. It would be EXTREMELY inconvenient for you to be carrying your steering wheel to the movies/dinner etc etc etc

2. Having that boss kit voids your club lock.

3. If a thief was really out to get your car.. all he would have to do is get a steering wheel with the same boss kit attachment and he'd be set. there aren't too many d1 style boss kits out there so im sure the attachment thing to your steering wheel would be pretty universal.

4.i'm guessing its another piece of your car the cops can point and laugh at.. then defect you for

5.If you have a nice steering wheel i.e. nardi etc even if they can't steal your car they can most easily steal your steering wheel thanks to yourself!

LOL p.s. Thieves/friends/bas tards could easily PISS YOU OFF by stealing/taking/hiding your steering wheel..

I'm pretty sure you won't have a "backup" steering wheel lol. nor an extra boss kit attachment to fit onto another steering wheel

it'd be pretty funny because it'd pretty much disable your car from being driven even by urself

Hold on, if you take the steering wheel with you, how do they steal/take/hide it?

Like in the FF3, the dude had his steering wheel on his backpack.

if you accidentally leave the steering wheel in the car for instance and the thief takes it then you're left with no steering wheel.

I guess taking it around with you all the time would be inconvenient. You could perhaps try and accessorise and strap a piece of string/rope around it and make it into a necklace.

Failing that, and doing the obvious (immobliser/alarm installed properly etc.). I can't remember where I read it from but quite some time ago I remember someone suggesting a simple and effective method involving razorblades and bluetack under your door handles........ Just remember they're there when you go to open your car! ouchy!

i still say sit in the back with the clublock and when he gets in beat him to deaf and then dump him at the nearest creek or river..... or buy a nice visciuos dog and sit him in the back with an empty stomach......or just use james bond style alarm,have a lil earthing switch before starting the car and if u dont push that and try start it could electricute or blow up the car or eject a seat hehehe.....

or as ive seen one of my favourites have a few dyna bolt anchors in ur garage drilled 150 into the concrete then a huge thick ass chain wraped underneath,,,,,and belive me these dyna bolts were HUGE as was the chain..... nut case lol

I was actually thinking abotu this a while ago, cause ive had to take my wheel off before, before going away. on my old commo.

its a good idea. just as effective as a club lock. both have their benifits and solutions.

ps. be weird to drive a car with some lock grips? lol

So beat him (which btw is very sexist) until he cant hear anymore???

Really most car theift isnt of the car is it? Its the good old smash and grab. If they cant see anything of value they will move on to the next car.

BTW dont do the removable wheel thing. I dont think insurance would like it too much. So if you do happen to not take it off, and the car gets nicked, then say crashes... They could say sorry, no payout for you!

i bought the brand name Club lock which also neutralises the steering wheel.

On top of that, being the brand name lock, it offers to pay up to 1500 off your insurance excess if any damage is caused to the car being broken into, or actually stolen.

I like the idea that all of you who have a Power FC, just set the rev limiter to 500rpm's and then remove the controller and take that with you. Simple yet effective.
I used to do that when I had the leave the car with panel shops or the like, except I gave em 1800 rpm because of the clutch (button = need a few revs to get the car moving). Enough for them to move it in and out of the booth but they couldn't do skids or anything. There was 3km on the car when I got it back, I assume from them going up and down the street trying to get it to do burnouts... they had fun trying to explain that :(

i wish i could have done that with my old gtir. every mechanic shop that i left if with thrashed the car. i picked it up one day and checked the RSM in the dash. 30km travelled at 145km/h topping out at 7425rpm! also the car hit 1.2g's........sidways!!!! i abused them and questioned them about it, only to get an "i dont know". shitheads!

the best car protection device i've heard of is the smoke dispenser. bottle of pressurised smoke, goes off when the alarm is tripped. good luck finding anything to steal let alone driving it with that. fills the cabin in about 10 - 15 seconds.

actually, there is a new device that has come out. apparently there is a frequency that 16 -25 yr old people respond to. it sends them crazy and they run away from it for no reason at all.only people of that age group can hear it, male or female, and it always works. they're implementing it in europe somewhere i think, but it works. i want it over here.

      I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed

      I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.

      Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
