Thanks for the info stolen_s15

It might be easier if I just post up the car's mods and if anyone can tell me which is defectable, apart from boost controller. Couldn't find any info on whether other items eg., turbo timer defectable.

HKS split dumps

HKS front pipe

HKS hipower catback (legal noise I think)

HKS adj cam gears (IN/EX)

HKS timing belt with Trust clear cover

Apexi pod air filter

Turbo timer

Nismo twin plate clutch (super coppermix)

Cheers. Much appreciated.

I seriously doubt your exhaust will pass noise. Thats about your only problem, but do read the regs i posted, it will give you a better understanding.

Well i got a Decfect this morning dunno what to do yet im in a hole bad any ideas on what i should change on my r33 gts-t?? i got

rb26/30 engine. what do i do with the engine remove or gamble?

motec ecu

3inch exhaust legal

front mount intercooler

boxed up pod filter similar to standard.. do i need the sensor re-fitted and working or just fittedand make it look as if working?

gt35/40 turbo. would this be ok if im running standard boost or change back to standard?

boost controller which im ganna remove.

can i keep the waste gate or do i have to remove it seeing i have already removed the boost controller?

i got an after market low mount exhaust manifold is this ok?

550cc injectors are ok?

Should have been smart about your creation because its not looking good :)

ECU - fail

Exhaust - likely to fail

FMIC - fail

No AFM - fail

Bigger than factory turbo - fail

Boost controller - fail

Wastegate - 150% fail

Manifold, useless, needs to be twins.

550's - fail

So, thats a big epic fail for you mate if you go to the EPA.

Then there is the issue of Engine number and so on for the RWC side/Vicroads etc.

It happens to be a noise epa becos they didnt look under the bonnet only complained abut the noise so will they test everything or just the noise?

If its noise only they wont look at anything else and you can go to a number of different certified workshops to get it tested. Mine failed on a similar thing and I got a custom exhaust end made that passes legal noise levels. Then they hand you a form with a pass and you mail it off to the EPA.

I was lucky I had a flange towards the rear of the exhaust, so they made an addition that would bolt on to that.

Mine was done by Noble Park Brake and Clutch. Had a very good experience there, happy to recommend them. I think the custom exhaust piece cost me $140 from memory. Most noise levels testers will only charge you once so the sound test especially if they fix the exhaust for you.

Almost anything bar a stock exhaust will fail. So whatever you get made will choke your car and power will disappear, but thats all you can do. If you can buy a whole second hand factory exhaust thats probably ideal.

So you already have the letter thats come in the mail???

Because until you get the letter in the mail, there is no way of knowing what you've been reported for.

The officer might have said it was too noisy, but that wont stop him from sending you for the full ringer EPA test @ Macleod Testing station.

You might as well get the exhaust made and correct so it flows, and is under 90dB.

I've just about got my full 3.5" to 90dB (92dB currently), its currently back in for work and should come out perfect. :)

who restrictive is the new exhaust power wise? like what was your power putput b4 and after the new exhaust?

Im planing of going standard all the way except for the engine, front mount ,exhaust. Well i made a big error of not knowing what im getting into now i realise but too late well its never late :)

what did u get defect for?

u need a rwc so does the bottem end match the rego sticker, if it does how far u from airport west?

did u get epa'd?

yea for the exhaust but how would i go about getting the bottom end matching the number on the rego sticker? im about 45min drive from air port west.

Lucky its just an exhaust epa. Funny thing is, a stock GTR won't pass a noise emission test. The government changed the rules a few years ago.

Instead of testing cars at 3000rpm they moved it up to around 5200rpm for GTR's. A stock GTR wont pass.

My advise. Get a stock exhaust and put as many baffles in it as you can.

(PS. Steel wool doesn't stay where you want it).

hey guys (sorry if this has been covered)

I received a letter in the mail stating that i have to get my car checked out by one of two places:

(werribee or moorabbin) where they do a full emissions test on my car.

mods are in sig...

i have a question regarding my Fmic, will this pass the test because i do have a standard airbox on

or will i have to put the SMIC back on also .

Also my local exhaust checked the db reading and it came to 92db (3inch exhaust)

Is there anything i can put on my exhaust (legally) to reduce the noise and if there isnt

Can i just change back to a standard cat back exhaust but still keep my split dump pipe. Will that pass

Cheers

They are only guidelines - down the bottom it says for more information to contact them.

So either way, im telling you, they are illegal. I've been to the EPA enough to know what does and doesnt pass :domokun:

If you dont think im right, by all means contact them, or try to get past with a GT35. I'll look forward the Lou's response to it (the inspector @ Macleod) :stupid:

Phatboy - have you read even one post in this thread?

I mean, im trying to be nice, but that question is simply silly.

IF YOU HAVE THE FACTORY INTERCOOLER YOU ARE ALLOWED NON OIL PODS AND VICE VERSA.

As per the 3rd post of this thread. Its there plain as day in the post, im think going to start cleaning this thread so it stops getting filled with 50 repeated questions...

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
    • Are you 100% sure this isn't tune related?
    • 140-150 across the board. At this point hoping the grounding harness fixes it. My grounds are all tied to the chassis and none to the battery. For SR and KA that’s never been a problem for me but had a few other guys here and Reddit who told me RB really like a very solid ground setup tied to the battery so going to try that next, I’m stumped if that doesn’t do it. Never had a car have spark and fuel and not fire off before. Only thing I can think is the spark is intermittent/weak because of grounds nothing else really makes sense at this point
    • I am having close to the same issue. Can you help me with what wire you grounded to get your pump to trigger?
