thread about shimming the stock viscous unit here> http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=160540

I might put the hard word on SK to do a more track orientated setup for the GTSt

Coool - thanks Nick. Does anyone know if there's a shim on both sides of the L.S.D. centre, or just one side? I'd rather shim both sides equally, rather than just one.. . . .

You're still street-driving your R33, yeah? Maybe You should come for a ride in My beeaaatch before You go looking to go too hard in the suspension. . . . .

yeah would like to come for a ride (I see you have a background in karting too, might need some driving tips as well hehe)... still drive it everyday but I live so close to work its not a big deal to leave it in the garage... I have being toying with the idea of buying a pushy for a while now... would keep my fat arse in shape!

yeah might just get some thicker swaybars, dial some more negative camber into the front end and then drop it another 10mm... it is still a little high as I get some tire scrub in the back (have been meaning to get the guards rolled...but you know... I'm lazy)

yep looks like that LSD mod is pretty temporary

Hey Bris, I'll buy you a slab for your achievement, your choice...

OK here's some incar footage, big files but good quality..

Session with fastest lap: http://sau.ferni.net/Jacksvids/PI_31_03_07a2.wmv (34Mb)

Supersprint at the end of the day: http://sau.ferni.net/Jacksvids/PI_31_03_07b1.wmv (46Mb)

Enjoy

nice driving Stig man (Sylar)

Noone can imagine the g-forces coming onto the straight at that speed. it's pure addiction !!!!!!!

Will have to get some incar footage of yourself aswell next time, I reckon your taking hayshed and turn 1 quicker than me....

Nick, SK already has a set of coil-overs more orientated to track days, yet still pretty streetable. But if you are patient; once my car is back on the road, i'll take you for a spin, as i am about to fit the Tein-Super Streets. These have 32 damper/rebound (simutaniously) adjustments per shock, and should be great with the in-cabin controller (EDFC).

Car wont be ready till late July (i hope), as i am building a new engine, after cyl 3 dropped compression  .

*Note to self* Next time, try not to end up at the front of a supersprint at PI with a Commo and 3 GT-Rs behind. ;)

Tried to stay out of everyones way...I need MORE POWAH!!!!

I'll look forward to that ride Al, should be a pretty complete package when all done :sorcerer:

hahhaah yeah that was pretty funny....

I have some SK shocks in my car and they seem to work really well and I'm only on street tyres. They were off one of the track GTR's he works on and they are meant to be used with semi's . The car seems really balanced even though it needs a front alignment after my DIY one to remove some front toe in went wrong one night before DECA and I still haven't got it right yet. Didn't want to wear out new tyres.

There is a lot of talk about abjustable dampening and rebound in shocks and if you don't know what your doing you will never get it right. I'm not a SK fan boy but from my car now and a mates 32gtst with SK street shocks only in the adelaide hills compared to his previous Tien's and my old Kyb's in my old gtst I was amazed how well it handled with a nice smooth ride and heaps of corner speed - didn't skid over bumps in corners. Would recommend them to you.

Also if PIARC isn't boked out on the sat I'm in. With some more front end grip with an alignment, the TSC and some new brake pads I really want to push the limit and get a low 1.50. I've never backed up a day at the same track so soon so there should be some more improvements to be made.

More videos from Brisby's car. The second one includes the lap that i put on youtube, as well as the previous lap.

EVIL i sez, EVIL ! ! Looks like some raw grip is missing from the rear too.. . .

hahaha, Funny. Im 14 beers into watching Casino Royale with Cheese. Sexy Beat and now Fastes Indian....and watching that lap....perfect! With the exception of the 14 or so mistakes

..oh , and Fastest Indian makes me want to spend lots of money to go and be fast :(

And thanks Tom/Ferni ;)

Great driving !! Car sounds cool too.

I'd say you have some serious setup issues. The rear looks unstable and squirmy. If you could improve the rear grip that thing would fly.

    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
    • Yeah that looks like great caster, but I'd suggest trying less front camber some time and seeing if it helps with braking without reducing mid corner speed too much
    • I ended up setting the rear 5mm higher than normal to give some clearance.  My plan is to run the least camber I can in the rear which I think with the extra width is going to need to be -1.75 to -2.00° just to get clearance.  Guards have been rolled and pulled as much as they can/I would be wanting to.  front has the Acostal knuckle with the KPI change and the drop etc. So should be okay with the existing settings I have run with AR1s etc Front: Toe total -2mm(1mm out each side) Caster +7.5° Camber -3.8° Ackerman +15°
