"More information please, Leigh."

/end game show host voice...

lol, i think we all know all fmic kits apart from return feed need cutting( in some cases with some trick plumbing you can get away without cutting hole under battery box , phil ( stage 1) did it i think but still usually have to trim reo bar

ps apparently my greedy fmic arrives today and i put on eyelids lastnight (frontend makeover) :)

This thread has been fantastic for fmic info...

I now have 2 options:

I can afford to dive in deep and get a trust/greddy or blitz SMIC (save money on piping, still good result, no cutting) for ~$1k

OR

instead I can buy a better fuel pump (suggestions?), Nismo FPR, and maybe a Z32 AFM (or other suggestion?) - if needed for ~180awkw.

And I can look into a mearkat water spray kit which should solve any cooling issues.

This second option gives me much better value for money, at the cost of a more complex cooling setup (more to break?). I reckon this would allow me to pass 180awkw, with the only thing lacking being an Apexi SITC - but it should still handle the power fine. The GT30 turbo should only require boosting a few more psi to get a nice huge power increase. Its currently at 12 psi but the fuel system isn't real happy with it so I dont push it much, and even at 12psi its only just touching on the GT30's efficiency zone... :P

I'm not desperate for more power, I'd settle for the same power as I have now, but with better cooling. But given the choice of the above 2 options, I'd definitely go for the second one.

On the topic of FMIC's has anyone used either of the stagea specific kits justjap sell for 449 and 499?

Do these require the cutting of anything?

I have the JJR type 2 kit in my series 2

Fitted straight up. Had to cut hole for return pipe under battery.

Not sure about the front bar reo, as I have R34 GTR front and R34 reo which allows for a FMIC.

Not sure why everyone is so concerned about cutting a hole for the return pipe

A 260RS has a hole cut there from autech and they pass ADR, compliance and rego inspection.

So there should be no difference.

spending a grand on a fmic is a bit costly.

utilize your r34 gtt larger smic for now IMO.

Bosch 040 fuel pump - $220 delivered

or Bosch 044 fuel pump - $300 delivered

Z32 AFM - $300 new or $200 second hand (ebay?)

Nismo adjustable FPR - $175 delivered (nengun)

adjustable cam gear exhaust wheel - $90 (group buy thread)

install and retune at Boostwerx - $300

all up roughly $1000-1200 for the above, or $1000 for a brand name cooler

id do the mods :P

So cutting a hole under the battery though is technically illegal and defectable?

First off has anyone actually been done for this in a Stagea?

A mate of mine told me it was possible to get it done properly and mod plated so it is all a-ok with the law. Is there any truth to that?

  • 2 weeks later...

Got myself an R33 'turn back' ARC intercooler for my S2 Stagea.

Has anyone got one like this or similar in their S2 ?

Just looks like such a tight fit with the electric fan and small gap for the pipes. If someone has one could they describe it or post some pics please. cheers

It is illegal in Victoria to cut a hole under the battery tray.

it sucks, and it doesnt make sense why to me, but thems the rules.

i dont understand, because as you said, 260RS's have holes there, GTR's have holes there....

stupid vic roads.

few skyline guys down here got done for it, i was lucky i never got pulled over.

you can get an engineers cert. for it, but is it really worth the hassle?

if i ever choose to go for a FMIC, i will buy a cooler, and get custom pipes made up like what alex did. or get a blitz/greddy/ARC cooler kit.

hope that helps

With GTR's the hole is designed to be there from factory and has an extra thickness of metal to reinforce it.

With the 260rs, they started out as standard stagea's and Autech has cut a hole, just like you would.

So if a 206RS passes ADR and rego inspection, why should a standard stagea get defected.

Would mean there is 2 sets of rules. Maybe something you could prove in court if you get defected.

That was my point.

I just bought an FPV cooler off ebay.... dunno what size it is, but hoping to get it to fit using some of the stock return piping. Anyone tried to sue one of these before? only cost me $150.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
