 only 2 sessions in DT before car decided to dump an unhealthy amount of oil on the turbo side of the engine bay. Looks like benno's going to be busy this week....

Same here Aaron.. although I did punch out a pb 1:22.7 in the first session before I got a puncture in the rear left tyre.. then I changed over to running on crappy used advan A048's on the black TE37's, but I wasn't able to improve my time throughout the day due to lack of grip. Oh and then I blew a turbo. Game over!

Awesome. You did look like you were leaving a fair amount of rubber behind when I saw you hanging it out very nicely..

Yeah those advan tyres had no grip. I was just warming up in the first practice session with the RE55s on before I got a puncture. Oh well, another day..

Results. Looks like it must of been a slow track. Shows you as a 1.25 Matt.

They haven't listed the times for the first practice session on the site, but they posted it on the boards at Sandown.

The other times are on the sh!t tyres, shows how much difference in lap times good tyres can make.

What a disapointment!!! Just one problem after the next and not one clean lap with warm tyres, solid brake pedel or power steering.

Big thanks to brisby and luke for your awesome fixing efforts so prince precious didnt get his race suit dirty lol. Really appresciate it.

It does sound like benno will have a busy few weeks.

Oh and someone buy the wrx club an oil flag cos 5th gear drift just aint as fun as it sounds. Im sure snowey can confirm.

Great to see the boys keeping the rexys honest although sorry to see people had dramas. Those times do seem a little slower but congrats to those who put in a PB.....and great work Russ for your 1:28 :(

Yeah I'd like to thank Archie for reminding me I'm still alive. There's nothing quite like going through the kink backwards at 150km/hr to point it out to ones self.

Anyways - I'm stoked.

Sure the track was mega slow.

Sure I'm disappointed that my 1.18.6 objective wasn't met.

But for the 1st time in 3 years I've gone to a track day and done all the sessions - including all the flying laps in each session (except for said backwards spin session where I needed to come off to thank god) - and I've not encountered any signs of temp issues or other mechanical problems of any description. And the happiness I'm feeling about that far outways any disappointment in lap times (plus I beat Aaron for the 1st time in years which makes up for him beating my Nurburgring time!)

Mate. I just loved it. Give me more!

Few little things. cracked windscreen that seemed to get longer every time I was on the straights, O2 sensor rubbed through the air con line so need a new pipe and regas and gotta reconnect my exhaust after it tryed to fall off. Only minor things but I got a lot out of the day. I just can't wait to get out there again.

im loving that first pic (of me :( )

i was stoked with my 1:26.6 considering it was my first track day in the GTR, my first time at sandown and i was on my every day street tyres!

the was handling like a dream!

Good to see all you blokes finally entered, at one stage I thought I was going to be there by myself.

Ditto on the health of the car, after P.I. I was a shattered man - but now.... :)

Track was diabolical down the back, I looped coming out of VB corner and saw Matt come down mega crossed up and just prayed he missed me, which he did :D

After locking up my rear sub frame the car feels as if it has too much rear bar or not enough front - very taily, but it could have been the track too.

Was looking to match Snowmans times given what are pretty equal cars (from what I know) but alas, in the last session he bent me over. It's good to have a carrot though. :(

Yes it was an awesome day.

Shepo and Russ you did awesome!

The first sprint day for me since DT last year, and although I had shite tyres and I blew the insides out of my exhaust (damn flames) I had an awesome day. Cheers Ben for the awesome engine and tuning, car held up perfect!

Bit pissed that the scrutineer canned my car just as I was about to jump into the SS with Russ, due to an apparent unsatisfactory tyre...

oh well...cant wait until the next one!

well said Snowy

That's all I was hoping for, a day of having fun lapping and sliding around but no... blew the turbo on lap 3 of the practice session... slowly drove it home in the left hand lane, with my hazards on and it making the most horrible sounds known to man... you would be amazed how many people would sit behind me or pull up next to me and tell me I had my hazards on, like I didn't know!

Congrats to those guys who got PBs... to do it on a track with little grip is an impressive effort... did the track get better later in the day, heat up at all?

The sun broke out at about 1:30. though it looked like it was making things worse along the back with glare.

Does this mean your going to put the 2530 on now nick?

Oh and i have to thank archie to, he almost killed at turn 3. I didnt get any photos, sorry mate, was too busy running away.

times aside i had a blast all day. the car held up great and did just about every session possible. i even joined the driver trainer group in the end just to get out for one more run which came very close to being a bad decision... there is nothing like turning up at a track day and going slower than your pb to make you try some crazy shit..

speaking of crazy, the datsuns.. i want to see your times when you have a good track! by the looks most people were off by a second or two...

Thats anoying how they canned you.

thanks for lending a hand with those tools during the day, oh and that bacon sandwich was awesome!

sorry to the guys who were having problems, i noticed in the first sessions a few of the skyline were miss firing a bit.

but hopefully there is nothing too expensive to have to fix.

but i think all in all, a good day was had by all.

Hey all...

had a great day... corona held up pretty well for its first outing after a fairly hefty rebuild....

few things to concertrate on but over all really good fun...

Thanks to all the officials etc... and was good to see a track day running so smoothly...

Any one have any ideas what that show is goin to be shown on channel 31....

Will have to have a PG rating for showing my ugly mug in an interview :D:D

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
