Sorry! cubes 99% of GTST's are owned by pimple faced teenages with maybe a tune and 200rwkw. :P

Im sorry but im gunna have to dissagree with that statement! Not all Gtst owners are pimple faced teenages which I think is a very bad stereotype and makes me sick :D Ive owned my r33 gtst for 4 years and I class my self as a enthusist! we look after our cars with pride of owning one! and alot of my mates that have r32's, 33s and even a r31 are aswell we go to local meeting, trackdays etc and to think that we have been looked down upon makes me even sicker!

so each time you see a gts remember it's only a pimple faced teenager driving!

Due to the cost of these cars a hell of a lot are owned by the younger mob. No longer is it the mid 20's well in to the 30's. I'm now in my late 20's and have owned my gtst since 2001. So a good 7 years.

Working in town I hear the roar of an RB look inside and what do I see a pimply teenager either on their P's driving a nice 34 or one that looks like they have just got off their P's.

Hardly do I see an old fart (mid 20's+). :P

I have a feeling Interstate is quite different; no doubt why SAU/SA is a bit of a flop here in Adelaide.

But things may change; there's a driver training day coming up that I'm keeping my eye on that hopefully will be a good turnout; if so well SAU/SA is a goer.

---

But yeah who am I kidding; GTST or GTR; I would buy the GTR. Drop the 3ltr bottom end in it and enjoy it.

After going the 3ltr and then driving rb25's and 26's I don't think I could step back.

I must admit the only rb25 that has impressed myself is Simon-R32's Gt3071 .7 a/r with cams; it feels quick unlike a lot of so called 260rwkw+ cars.

Do the same to a GTR and they make 250rwkw odd.

Wow even mods make dumb comments :P

Horses for courses. GTR is awesome. GTST is still awesome, but not as great in standard trim... Pick one that you like and go with it...

Comments like the above are really coming from people compensating, trying to prove their's is the better. Who cares? Enjoy what you have...

cubes, what kind of power is your 30 putting out these days (i know it's OT, just curious!).

anyway, this thread is a bit pointless now. sadly most of the people posting in it are so one eyed and biased they can't see anyone else's point of view as being valid.

from the factory I still don't change my view that the GTR is a FAR better car. troy, I know what you are saying about how a few choice tweaks make the GTST a GTR beater (and I agree), but try and remember what a bone stock GTST is like to drive. I do, and it's pretty average. bone stock GTR on the other hand is still quite fun, and fast. at the same time I owned a bone stock GTST (just cat back exhaust and a pod filter) and I had a nice 32 GTR that was the same (just cat back and pod). The GTST was still fun, but pretty slow and handling not so good. the GTR however was great fun and still quite rapid and handled very nicely.

once things get modified there is no clear answer. any modified car can beat any modified car can beat any other modified car. it's not so important what you started with, but what you end up with.

i have driven a r32 gtr and to be honest i didnt like the feel of it at all yes it was quick but did not like the heavy steering or the very old school looking dash in it i could have afforded a gtr at the time i got my gts-t but did not feel it was the car for me with what i wanted to do with a car .

i love all skylines and dont think of any of them been better that another diffrent people have diffrent needs out right speed or awd was not something i need

cheers form a very old fart

You should never have sold the GTSt, :P But again, the GTR is a BETTER CAR. The thread starter was askign about performance. Completely std the GTR has it. With a few mods here and there i think the GTSt gets closer. With a bucket load of mods the GTR once again pulls away. LOL, pulls ... :D

I love these threads, next we just need someone to throwdown and hit the track, when is the next track day

it should be said that the next car I aim to buy is a GTST. got my eye on one in japan I'm trying to coax the owner into selling. but if that doesn't happen I will force Roy to sell me his. I will keep the GTR though. I love them.

how many guys and girls here have owned both a gtst and a gtr???

and how many of you have had the oportunity to race both on similar terms?

as for my self i have owned 2 gtsts, 2 gtr,s and a gts4,

the first skyline was a converted rb20de 4 door, it for me was mearley a play thing to go and do skids and the occasional street light gran prix,

the second was a factory gtst with a auto behind it as my partner couldnt drive stick.

i sold my first skyline and bought a R33 gtr which lasted all of three weeks before some asshole ran a red light and left me with a written off skyline, and a smashed thigh and hip,

with that money i bought a R32 gtr and had it converted to auto while my leg healed from the accident as i couldnt depress the clutch pedal.,

after a few weeks of owning it i realised that the car was more of a collectors item to me then a toy so we went in search of a trade for my partners gtst and found a 93 factory turbo 25det auto gts4, the manual box from the gtr went into this and a second hand (albiet with a cracked bell housing and flock tail shaft bearing) dog box i purchased for a rather extensive sum of hard earned cash, had it repaired and now resides in the gtr.

the gts4 had issues in the form of the motor being generally abused and tired so it was biffed in the bin for a rebuilt rb30 block and gtr head setup, along with the usual front mount, oil cooler, etc etc.

all while this happened weekends spent at the drag strip and the race track, the gts4 proved itself to be a worthy apponent if not an equal to the gtr, and it wasnt even tuned it was a home gararge bolt together from the spare parts bin.

this is why i chose to keep modifiying the gts4 as now it has a output 3 times that of the gtr and handles just aswell.

but im not saying the gtr wouldnt have the same qaulities if it had the same work done to it, the gts4 was built with fun in mind it has close to the same wieght and drivline as it's big brother with two extra doors and more extensive work done to the driveline how ever it still runs 225 50 R16's all around and is road registered and only failed its warrant of fitness on two bald tyres and a inner cv boot.

with the set back's and finacial burden that comes with outright performance, and all this before my 25th birthday, i frown on all you magazine mechanic's and judgemental sons of bitches out there i suggest you put up or shut up, there are people here who have worked damned hard for what they have and all you can do is point and laugh.

as for the question posed, there are equal benefits as well as down sides to owning either a gtr or a gtst. and untill you've had both you wont really know.

for out right power and performance yes a gtr, but you'd better have even deeper pockets than if you are to buy a gtst, as above with a simple rb30 conversion, ecu, and its goings on for 10 grand id rather have a 300 rw kw gtst than a 280kw gtr thats gonna cost three times that to get anywhere near where my gts4 is now.

280kw in a gtr is a just a few basic mods and stretching ya turbos to the limit pfff the godzilla is the king and maybe you can drive so how about get in ya gtr and do it ya might find out its just the other noobs on the track cant drive for s**T. now ppl keep going on about the gtst are cheap to mod blablablab and the gtr are expensive but i hate to say it the only thing more expensive is it has two turbos and ya have to replace 4 tyres from doing hellies :P for a start ya dont even have to open the engine up untill 350kw+ just a bunch of bolt on parts which are the same price as the bolt on parts for the gtst, and yes i know there is alot of cheap s**t out there for the gtst but lets see how long they last ya get what ya pay for geee get ya heads out ya arses.

on a buget or want just a flog car gtst cheap to 250kw dam stupid and expensive 350kw+

want to go fast with potential get the dam gtr cheap to 300kw+ dam expensive 400kw+

so make ya choice ppl look at ya budget and see what ya want and need personaly i got a gtr but still looking for a cheap gtst for abit of fun drift :D

Going from the R32 in to an R33 GTST the R32 GTST feels much more racey than the 33. The 33 feels a lot like a family boat/whale.

For what its worth.. Andy and his old 100% stock r33 GTR.

Mine running 13psi through standard fmic and exhaust making a little over 150rwkw. Andy launched at 5k mine at 4k. I had slightly better reaction time and hung in front; there was no passing. Up and rolling both would accelerate at the same pace.

Up the boost on the gtr and its all over though :)

LOl, soudns like you live near my brother

Man, your posts are hard to follow :P Lets just look at your budget 280rwkws GTR. It weill need dump pipes, front pipe and exhaust. And i doubt you can actually get that much power out of the std turbos. No way you can get it reliably. But...its all BS, i love the idea of us going toe to toe at PI at an upcomign track day.....winner takes all.

Loser has to put a demeaning sticker on their car. I have always liked the sticker , GTR owners pull harder then their cars! :teehee:

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
