Tarmac Rallying Perpetual Thread

Recommended Posts

Just spoke to my Dutton co-pilot (Blaise) who just returned from that pesky bit of tarmac otherwise known as the Nurburgring. And it seems he' suffering from the same problem as I had after going there in now wanting to step up to tarmac rallies in order to try and see if he can replicate the experience he got over there.

He wants to go back to his roots when we first met and was driving an imported WRX STi RA, but this time look at building a 22b replica as a tarmac car which should be sweet. It'll probably take him a good 12 months or more to get the project together but it will be tops to have him along playing in the future too (and good if I can get 12 months or so experience up on him to start with! LOL).

Dunc, hopefully there'll be at least four there, Quinny has a couple now too :) Well done Kel, hopefully she'll have a ball! :)

Snowy, Melinda Both is rebuilding her RA to a 22B replica as well, her and Paul may be of some use in getting some deals on multi buys of things like the aftermarket wide guards etc? PM me if you want her number mate.

I saw a genuine 22B on TAU in Japan for 22K about three months ago. I had a real hard think about it, but had a bit on cash-wise that week so couldn't stretch... would have been cool though.

Based on current indications there should be atleast nine or ten R35s at Targa next year.

So what are you going to have to have to be different then?

TAU = japanese car exporter. some widely differing opinions on the quality of the cars they sell. they wholesale to a lot of caryards and importers in aus.

you can certainly pick up a 22B in japan quite cheaply, no need to buy it off TAU either.

Yeah there's 3 on carales for +$100K.

His plan wasn't to buy an actual 22b but to build a replica from a cheap base but heck if he can get a genuine one at a stupid price I'm sure he'd consider it (although it'd be a shame to bugger a genuine one up with a cage etc).

I will keep an eye out at auctions. they are no where near as rare in japan as they are here. I've seen quite a few come up over the years and that was without actually looking for any!

you can also get a late model STI Type C or RA or whatever pretty damn cheap to import for race use.

Baron, i will bring the oxy, you bring the beer. I think its time we prep the S13 and show that intestinal fortitude mixed with the right amount of stupidity and my "nah mate she's flat...i have a perfectly matched set of buffed tyres so she will hold" navigating will have ..... ....people visiting us in hospital. Its up to us to bring SAU together and make our hospital waiting room the socialable meeting point of tarmac rallies :D
