I find this rather interesting because when I had a big block powered hot rod that shook violently from side to side while it sat at the lights no one ever tried to race. They stared instead.

But with my skyline I have had the lot from lancers to hondas to XR6 turbos to grandmas trying to race me - despite the fact that my skyline is an NA auto...

Generally I find that the true performance guys don't try and race other people around town, they choose the track or deserted country roads.

black r34 turbo wanted to race me one night off the lights.. i was in my old mans VT so didn't give any attention to him.. he was revving the shit out of it.. lights turn green and he missed the gear.. i jst LOL at his face...

Lights on freeway? What kind of freeway were you on? :)

LOL! I meant Dandenong Freeway or Highway... Whatever that road is.

As for ppl trying to race me, I have had all sorts

BMW 318i

Mini Cooper

MG

Commodore

Ford

Nissan Silvia

Toyota Corolla

4WD

BTW I find that the Silvia's like to race or wanna show off how fast their car is to me...

I mean, I was not asking for a street race, I don't say anything bad about the Silvia's, I do like them... K's / Turbo's that is.

And I gota friend who I see him and he keep saying, "My 180SX drift car can beat your GTR"... I said "Yeah thats great, I wanna see it one day down at the track"...

CrispyFries you can answer this one for me

Honestly I don’t think there is a car that attracts more attention from hoons than a skyline. I didn’t get a quarter of the attention when I had my S13 Silvia. But once I got my Skyline it was on for young and old. Everybody takes you on from a crappy SRi Barina to a XR8.

It is getting to that point where I hope to god that I don’t get stopped at the lights cause no matter who is next to me they will more than likely try to take me on. I usually stare of in to the distance ignore their revving taunts and take off as slow as possible.

The biggest culprits here in Geelong are crappy VN to VS commodores, dropped with 20inch chrome rims and a loud exhaust, honestly they wouldn’t even stand a chance against my old civic. Lancer, Prelude and Integra drivers are almost just as bad.

Something that I’ve noticed is that I have never had any hooning issues with other import drivers on the road.

if you know youve won before a race theres no point................

i get nothing but annimomimty in my 32 other people dont even look at my car even other line drivers - snobby bitches lols

haha same here.

No one looks twice at my r32 not even the police, they probably confuse it for a r31 haha

3 weeks ago i had a 35-40y.o with his wife n kids in the car - A TARAGO!!!, he was reving the shit out of it as he pulled up to me at a set of lights in the city. Lights go green and i stayed still, he spun the tyres (of wot that van could) and i took off slowly. I got up to the next set of lights and gave him an earful cos i thought, your in a van, you have ya missus and worst of all you had 2 kids in the back and your trying to take me on

A complete idiot!!!

yes very often i get the ford/holden drivers who want a go at the lights and sometimes the hondas 2.

I just look at them, roll down my window, tell them to roll down there and politely say "no thank you". I get the "ur a pussy" "ur a wimp" "f**ken chicken s**t" lines but i have my pride.

I normally granny around in my car

Mostly 180SX and Silva kids wanna run (but then again they try to run everyone - generalisation here). I've had preludes, integra's. "fully sick" Commondores (mostly V6's and a few HSVs). Around 98% of the time i'll let them go...but sometimes the red mist will drop down (or mates) will spur it on.

I think the funnist had a guy in a Prelude VTi-R tailgating and high beamin me down Mickelham Rd. Got to the set of lights and got next to me - puts his window down, reving it up and saying "my car will beat your shitty volvo" (I drive a Stagea) and blah blah blah. took off from the lights normally so he took off, got in my lane and then brake checked me...I completely lost it....next set of lights i've yelled at him called him names for brake checking...he just called me a pussy and said that my car wouldn't get near him. powered away from the set lights and clearly beat him...got to the next set of lights, he pulled up..he just said "what car is that"? and the famous "I can't beleived I got beaten by a wagon" and he drove off with his pride shattered.

But I have to agree, jump in and drive a Skyline and it's like someone put a sign on it saying "race me".. because every man, woman, child and their dog wants to run

I consider myself a hoon, lol. I grew up in the the middle of nowere (15people in my town and 5 were my family). Incedently the same place Larry Perkins grew up, its hard to come from a place like that and not love hooning. But even as a kid my dad showed us how to hoon without damaging the car or upseting anyone. i think that there are alot of responsible drivers out there that like to have a hoon now and then. i have all my demerit points, last one i lost was near 10 years ago. there is a speed limit and its there for a reason. but there isnt' an acceleration limit yet and i enjoy taking off fast and losing some traction around corners. But when i do have a good blast on the fun pedal its always away from the public as much as possible and never to show off in a group and the odd times the cops have gotten me they see i make the effort and ive been let off a ton of times haha.

As to geting tempted to race i 99% of the time don't bother as i refuse to do anything like that in public places and most idiots seem to want to drag in main streets and such. That said there was this one guy in a done up ET Pulsar with 18-19" mags and apexi, hks ect ect rallyart stickers all over it hahaha we were turning onto a freeway and i let it go took off up the ramp onto the freeway and soon as i got to the freeway i slowed to 110km hahaha he was pissed took him a good 50metres after i slowed to 110 to catch me. And he continued to pass me and keep going at like 140-150km. lol i guess he didn't want to stick around with me laughing at him.

I just ignore them...

just this week, on Plenty Rd, ive had a Red Hatchback Civic drive next to me, slowing down and speeding up trying 2 race whilst staring @ me.... we wer going 80km/h, and it sounded like he was @ the top of 2nd, lol... rev, engine breaking, rev up, engine breaking.. witha fart cannnon on... then he punches his gas, and he didnt go anywhere... lol pathetic, i was still pretty much right next to him... i was driving normally lol...

also, a Hyandai sonata, complete with fart cannon... revving his engine @ a red light :S why?

im in2 drifting anyway so i dont see the need 2 drag race or anything. unless im drifting, the car is kept under 3k :P

Now maybe its just me, but it seems like the majority of people who drive a VW Golf think that they're Lewis Hamilton. Apologies to anyone on here who may actually drive a golf.

haha thats so true!

I had some red golf GTI tailgating me and launching off the lights afterwards. It was real random lol

Was a quick little car with its flappy paddle thingo's lol

X2, dunno what it is about golf's, mostly the newer turbo gti ones.

i voted hoon. i drive normal most of the time, hardly ever race (cars too slow, theres no point), but theres still those days (well, mostly nights) where i like to go for a run through the factories. minispooled VL ftw ;)

x3 golf and polo gti drivers seem 2 race everything to the next set of red lights ... peak hr traffic in the morning consists of me spotting how may gtis i can see weaving in and outta lanes to overtake that 1 slow car.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
