Pretty good results guys, this is one of our drift cars built on a limited budget, survived two seasons in D1NZ plus specialty events, before it dropped compression on number one cylinder, we replaced the entire engine with another StageA RB25DE with around 70,00kms (nicely run in)and back to banging the limiter. $300 for the engine, cheap as chips and easy to replace, I would not go to another rebuilt engine unless it's a VK56.

It's all in the tuning.

Well, thought I should put something in here. Thought it was rbs but I saw a few cas too, so why not add mine.

VQ35de in a m35 Stagea. Awd. Hks z33 turbo kit with some tweaks. Gt3037, 60mm external, 600cc, walbro, tuning with uprev, by DVS Jez.

It's got about 200kw atw on a bit less than 6psi. Not super powerful, but it's a big ass wagon, and that's fun. Pretty much no lag whatsoever, as you can Imagine with 3.5 litres!

Forgot about the template sorry. Mods please delete my other post?

Model-1994 R33 Series 1 coupe

Engine-Stock un-opened engine, ~175,000kms at time of tune

Modifications / Parts Used- Stock GTS head, intake manifold and airbox

-Stock R33 GTST injectors, rail, exhaust manifold

-Anything not mentioned is stock GTS or GTST

-Stock R34 GTT turbo ~70,000kms

-Hybrid 600X300X76mm front mount intercooler

-Custom 2.5" intercooler piping

-Custom metal intake from AFM to turbo

-JJR 3" dump/front pipe

-Custom 2.5" high-flow exhaust, cat and mufflers

-Yellowjacket Coil-Packs

-NGK Platinum plugs

-Walbro GS-341 fuel pump

-Oil cooler kit with filter relocator and thermostat

-Nismo adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Engine Management Used-Apexi SAFC "blue-screen" with stock GTST ecu

Fuel Used-BP Ultimate 98 RON

Boost Used-Peak of ~8.5 PSI

Misc-No boost controller, just restrictors in the wastegate feed line.

-Needs a decent ECU to hold timing properly, will smooth the curve out and make a touch more.

-3" exhaust and boost controller may help the 6000-7000 rpm range hold more power.

-Car previously made ~140rwkw with basically the stock turbo set-up bolted straight on. Ran this way for a year with no problems.

-The dip in the graph at 115-125kph is apparently the ECU changing timing and fuelling for the stock solenoid to raise boost pressure, as the car doesn't have the solenoid it changes the power.

-Best part is stock GTS peak power at ~2800rpm, stock GTST peak power at ~4500rpm very responsive and fun to drive. Holds 170+rwkw for a full 2000rpm.

Dyno Tune Results-196rwkw@5800rpm

Costs-All up for relevant stuff, including turbo conversion and tuning roughly $3000. Labour I do myself. Tuned by Rob at Creatd Motorsports

I ran this engine in my Cefiro Drift car for two seasons plus specialty events, the only problem was my final drive gearing was a bit too high for some tracks, I was using 4.3:1 locked diff.

From last tune added:

Z32 Nistune ECU

Customized Cooling Mist WMI kit (see "let's talk water methanol injection" thread)

NGK BCPR7ES' gapped to .8

Boost wound up to ~9.5psi

post-74990-0-68340700-1350692330_thumb.jpg

Red is the stock ecu/SAFC combo, different dynos, conditions, times and probally the ECU being weird resulted in 166rwkw peak on this dyno.

Green is with the above mods, WMI de-activated.

Orange is the current tune with WMI and a few minor tweaks, if the WMI dies the engine should still survive rather than relying %100 on the WMI kit.

Massive +1 for Cat and Trent at Chequered Tuning, exceptional people to deal with from the get-go and i'm exceptionally happy with the tune and their awesome customer service. What the graphs don't show is the rest of the tune: on-off throttle, part throttle feel, anti-stall, fuel economy etc. Car is completely different to drive in every way.

  • 4 months later...

They are pretty much the same box as the RB20DET, and will handle stock power happily and anything upwards of around 200rwkW safely if not abused; If you want to clutch drop/clutch kick/flat shift it will not last long at all at that power level.

  • 7 months later...

Few changes made from last time (tune related only listed):

-Turbo hi-flowed by Hypergear, 12 psi actuator

-Fuel pressure raised to ~50 psi, stock injectors at ~90%

-Full CES racing 3" exhaust

-Larger oil cooler core

-40mm alloy radiator'

-Gates racing timing belt

-New water pump

-Went from a 250cc WMI noizzle down to a 180, pump pressure back up to peak of ~220psi.

-Did 5 stud conversion, more suspension work, new WMI tank etc. but most stuff is the same.

242 rwkw and 400 nm on ~15 psi.

AFR and torque, stock turbo at ~10 psi vs. hi-flow at ~15 psi

Power and torque, stock vs. hi-flow

post-74990-0-39353400-1384169973_thumb.jpg

Safe tune no WMI vs. WMI on and minor tune changes, awesome results for a VERY cheap and reliable (18+ months now) kit.

And another very happy Chequered Tuning customer. Could not be happier with their awesome customer service and another great tune. Cheers guys!

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
