I recently serviced my car, put a DRIFT filter in, figured it couldnt be too bad - magnetic and claims to have anti-drain back. My car now does the exact same thing you mentioned. Car now takes 1-2 seconds (when cold) for oil pressure to register and the oil light to go out. That has me fairly concerned. The old oil filter didn't have that problem at all.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

It's really starting to freak me out the longer I leave it - I really don't want to have to drop all my expensive Motul oil to have to change the filter either. I guess I could catch most of it and put it back through with a top-up .. it's only got maybe 1000km on it.

Same observation here with my SR with grex relocation setup and Drift filter. I've been thinking about redoing the relo kit so the filter hangs down therefore the filter is constantly full.

Can someone actually confirm the Drift filters actually have an anti drain back valve?

Mine does this some time, oil light stays on for a moment with zero oil pressure and then after a few seconds goes to normal. I seriously doubt it's something to worry about. I normally use the Ryco Z145A filters.

why do you need to drain your oil to change your filter?

Ryco filters are where its at.

I use AC Delco filters.

Maybe cheap, but i have not seen one scrap of evidence, (using my car) to suggest that it is in anyway inferior to other brands, usually much more expensive.

Didnt expect to see this thread again hehe. At the moment i use KnN oil filters and they are great; have a nut at the top like the drift filter so its easy to put in and remove + got rid of my oil issue.

who would use a filter with the brand name drift, wank factor, Theyre definatley not experts in filters like ryco or oem

oem are the cheapest and probably the best on the market at 6.60 trade

OEM would be good, happy with knn though and prefer to have the nut at the top as it makes the job much easier.

someone who values added protection, these filters filter ~10 ten times smaller particulates than ryco or oem and i have the wear check data on my built engines to back it up. We were using K&N (regarded as one of the best money can buy) but found the DRIFT bettered the filtration (particulate testing) and as i buy in bulk cost me substanially less.

i use these on engine setups costing upwards of $25-30k without any qualms.

Ryco are far from leaders in performance filters but they make a great general filter, for general applications.

I allways used ryco filters, last time over here i had to buy some cheap brand from the sphincter of the universe or something and have no issues.

who cares what knock the knock sensors are picking up on startup, i would be worried about 90 knock at 5000rpm with 20psi boost more then a knock on start up??? wtf

me personally I've always liked genuine nissan filters, but for any of my really tuned cars I use jap ones, mostly Greddy, but also like the sard mag filter and the nismo filters are not bad either. never tried drift ones, but with the ones I've used I never have problems with oil pressure coming up nice and fast.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
