mmm will ask the the price of the extended warranty

Ensure you ask re the genuine factory extended warranty and peruse what it covers. Don't get suckered in to wasting money on the aftermarket warranties, they're seldom worth the paper they're written on.

value for money towrag

q7 for extra boot space

cayeene turbo for f**ken woosh c__t!

will have a look at the jeep as well

q7's are for mums picking up their kids from school, don't do it!

If you want you cake and eat it to, go the R50 VW probably cheaper than the Cayenne and quicker too I'd bet!

mine definately goes f**ken woosh!!

Looking at a new hilux for towing. Anyone got any real world feedback. I'm after the double cab sr 4x4 3l turbo diesel. Rated at 2500. Thing is their payload rating is 900kgs which is guaranteed while towing 2500kg with 5 ppp and full tank so it seems good but yeah I haven't done a test tow

disco 4. Added bonus is that all the seats fold flat....plenty of room for the junk we take to the track.

fuel bill won't kill your savings account either.

why are people raving about the amarok? 2800kg towing capacity where most of these others have 3500kg. 400nm of torque vs 600+ for the others. what am i missing?

Funny I've heard lots of horror stories about Hiluxes and Navaras and I've heard lots of people love them. My pathfinder is nearing 5 years and going strong (same mechanically as Navara). Still has the original clutch and nothing's blown up on it.

All makers have horror stories though.

The OEM rated towing capacity is more of a marketing thing, too. While my pathy may be rated at 3500 (or 3000 - not sure) I doubt it would ever feel comfortable with that much hanging out the back. Anyone who actually needs to be towing 3500kg needs to look at something built for towing / load carrying, and not just a family 4WD / SUV. YOu'll need a heavy licence to drive it, anyway, as your CGM will be 6 tonnes or more.

so if a hilux is no good. and people bag the navara's.. what else is there around that price thats any good. I dont have the coin for a v10 toerag lol

There's a VW V10 R50 on carsales.com.au for $50k! a couple of years old but not many k's on her. Would be a good thing I reckon.

VW's factory extended warranty is not too pricey either....

My girl has 300kw/1000nm/3500kg towing, can't beat that. Don't know what power the older models have/had, but worth a look.

For the record I get about 10L/100kms around town too.

I use my old mans Holden Collarado for towing my skyline, doesn't even feel like it's on there. Really nice.

I just bought my self a 2001 Navara DX 4x4 3L TD for towing (3000kg towing capacity) now because Mum and sister needs dad's car for towing their ponies around. It's good, just don't tow in 5th or gearbox goes bye bye (apparently). Doesn't have a huge amount of power but i like it :)

Much better than my old bravo, front wheels were pretty much coming off the ground...

towing about 50kms each way, about once a month.

daily is 60-70kms a day city driving.

i have a vy ute (3.8) 5speed.

someone wants to buy it so if i sell it ill be up for a new car, so not sure if the ute will tow enough or not.

Hilux isn't too bad... Towing a fully loaded tandem with an Evo 9 (a lot heavier than what you tow) plus a tray/canopy full of fuel drums/spares/tools and 4 passengers and going from a v6 petrol to a diesel wasn't much of a change except for fuel economy. Sure its slower, but if you keep it on the boil in the hills they tow alright. Interior was a bit bland and out of date seats a little uncomfortable, just done a revision though which could be ok?

For the money though the VW amorak is hard to look past,

12k to spend.

i will be using it as a daily.

needs to tow r32.

been looking at crewmans, vy ute, 4x4's

whats people think?

I have a vy ss crewman auto I love it. Def no v10 towrag but I drive it about 100 kms per day mon to fri and have put about 10 k kms on it towing my r33 and gets about 12-14 Ltrs/100 kms towing and 11-12 Ltrs around town. Also has a baby seat in the back for the young fella.

I like it as it meets all my needs and price range, if I was buying one now get the latest model you can I think it is a vz thunder they are 6 ltr and better hand brake set up as mine is rubbish and needs a lot of maintenance. Good luck pm me if you want more info :-)

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
