Anyone who has any experience with the ross (just jap sells, billet) could you let me know what you think.

My build has been going on for a while the balancer is pretty much the last item I need before the 26 goes back in the car. I've pretty much gone the "no expense spared" build, haven't skimped on any parts yet. The Ati item I know is the better balancer however it is some $500 more, I've heard mixed opinions on the ross balancer.. Just want to filter out the shit and get the facts.

Car will be running a t04z, motor revving to 8500rpm (street/ track duties)

thanks

Don't be concerned - Ross Tuff Bond balancers are about as good as you can get, run one with no issues - buy Australian- even if we do have Jap cars!

+1...

Im running a Ross balancer... haven't had any troubles...

performance wholesale in brisbane sell the ati balancers for $740.

i suggest you read the other thread on balancers. you'll find no one gives reasons to back up their claims that the ati is actually better than the ross balancer

I run a ross on my GTR

It runs to 9800rpm everytime its on the circuit and has a dry sump madrel spinning off the nose as well.

Never given me any grief

Im yet to see evidence that the ati is better

Probably should have purchased a balancer and had the whole rotating assembly balanced prior to assembling the engine though.

While on topic of harmonic balancers.. Would an aftermarket one help with idle stability? My gut says no! But i dont know coming from a WRX that doesn't require one! My R32 GTR has a rough idle (rough meaning the car shakes a little along with the steering wheel between 1,000-1,300rpm) and its either a tune issue, engine mount, or that the internals are not balanced.. Do RB26's often have a slightly rough idle?

GTRsean- My car is much like yours

If its bog standard then the answer is no - if it's moded then who knows.

Good fuel and plugs - should idle fine.

Thanks for all the feed back, didn't realise so many people were running them

That's damn cheap :) just talking to people and looking over build's Ati seemed the way to go, the ross from what I saw was rarely used.

Cheapest place to find the ross? Cheapest i've found is $675 at just jap.

cheers

give dan from erd a call - 0407111229. from memory the rb26 one is around the 525 mark and i think the rb20/rb25 ones are a bit cheaper

big handbag session in my thread with no reasons as to why. i would say both are good but i cant tell you why

lol that's in the running for post of the month :)

funny how this thread had 90% ross users, the other thread was the other way around. And no-one has had any trouble with either (except that test item someone mentioned elsewhere).

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
